UPDATE 1-SAP says will reach upper end of 2008 outlook

"We can attribute our strong performance to good overall execution and the continued strength in all three core areas of our business," Chief Executive Henning Kagermann said in a statement.

SAP said on April 30 it saw full-year 2008 software and software-related service revenue increasing in a range of 24-27 percent at constant currencies. It now expects to reach the upper end of that range.

The outlook excludes a revenue write-down from last year's acquisition of Business Objects -- its biggest ever -- of around 180 million euros.

SAP -- whose software helps customers automate, integrate and manage their businesses -- said its SAP business, excluding the contribution from Business Objects, will contribute 12-14 percentage points to this growth. Continued... more

"It was hard to predict, but sometimes we'd have three or four vehicles of security cops or maintenance folks drop by, with 10 or 15 guys sitting around and spending from $3 to $10 each on milk shakes or meals," he said. "Any extra business can add up in a small town, but (MAFB personnel) probably contributed no more than 5 percent to overall revenue."

"It was more than just business for us," Sutherland added. "We considered it a privilege to serve Malmstrom guys because of what they do for our country. And they were great people, polite and always a lot of fun."

He said that even when he joked with the airmen, they were polite.

"I'd sometime tease them, telling one of them if he ate that whole meal he'd grow big with white hair like me," Sutherland said. more

Matney said they could have taken their businesses anywhere in the Valley, but Scottsdale offered the ideal long-term location.

"The reason we all came down here is because we can see the future," Matney said. "You walk down here and see stores that have been here for 40 years. There's a lot of culture here. It's not all about cowboys and Indians, it's about so much more."

"There's always downtime in the summer," Matney said. "How well you manage your people . . . will decide whether you have a good summer or not."
