Fair Isaac Plans Overhaul of Business

Fair Isaac Corp. plans to overhaul its business and cut about 420 jobs to boost revenue and cut about $35 million in costs, the business information company said Tuesday.

Fair Isaac plans to invest in better spots and sell a number of its businesses. The company agreed to sell its insurance bill review business to Mitchell International Inc., and plans to sell its advertising services, government research, fast-panel diagnostics for veterinary medicine and select telecommunications businesses. The company also plans to sell its cortronics neural research project, which tries to create a computer model of certain parts of the brain.

Kansas City Fed Mar Manufacturing Index -5 Vs Feb -5

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Manufacturing activity in the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's district declined somewhat in March, according to data released by the bank Thursday.

Firms' expectations for future factory activity also weakened this month, but firms were still calling for modest overall expansion in the coming months.

Data showed that the bank's production index was unchanged in March from February at -5, and down from 7 in January. Readings above zero indicate expansion of activity while sub-zero readings signal contraction.

On a year-over-year basis, the production and shipments indexes fell to their lowest levels in five years - zero - after rising slightly in February.

Month-over-month readings are seasonally adjusted, while year-over-year readings are not. more

INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AND CAPACITY UTILIZATION: THE 2008 HISTORICAL AND ANNUAL REVISION

The Federal Reserve has revised the index of industrial production (IP) and the related measures of capacity and capacity utilization. Although rates of change from January 1972 through February 2008 are affected, the revision has its largest impact on data from 2003 onward. Relative to earlier estimates, measured from fourth quarter to fourth quarter, total IP is now reported to have increased more slowly in 2006, but changes to output in other recent years were more modest.[1] The period from 2003 through 2007 is marked by a steady, moderate rise in industrial output; on average, production increased 2.2 percent per year over this time frame, and the annual rates of change ranged from 1.5 percent to 3.1 percent.

The revision to IP incorporates the U.S. Census Bureau�s 2006 Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM), which shows a lower annual level of output than previously estimated. more
