Resolved Question: I am feeling insecure about my job career... am I going the right way?
I graduated with a degree in IT engineering from one of the tier 2 university in India in 2009. After studying 4 years of engineering, I realized that I am not interested working much into technology as working on the business side. So i made up mind, and after a long gap of over 6 months I chose to work with one of the one of the Big 4 (E&Y, KPMG, Deloitte, PWC) in their Risk Advisory services. As I was more keen on getting broader business experience before pursuing a full time career in any industry & becoming an expert in that field, so I started doing research about Strategy Consulting and dreaming working in MCKinsey/BCG/ Bain. I tried for above three and a few other but all in vain, as I relaized it is highly impossible to get into these companies with such low grades and no work experience (my GPA is average). As i had no jobs from IT companies in hand & also it was not possible to get one in good companies with decent packages due to low grades, I managed to get my a job from one of the Big 4 for their Risk Advisory services. Here my work revolves around AUTOMOBILE/MANUFACTURING companies, where I help my team members in creating Standard Operating Procedures, Internal Audit and formatting word documents & PPT in Microsoft office Suite. As I have very less interest in programming and my programming skills are also average, I took up this job which pays me over $300 a month. Most of the people in my team are Chartered Accountants except for my manager who is an MBA graduate and has a Mechanical Engineering degree. Also I came to that people working at this designation as me (Analyst) are mostly 99.99% commerce graduates . My future plans is to pursue an MBA from an international B-school, I am not expecting to get an admit in to Harvard or London Business school but I am aiming for an globally recognized institute. I took up this job because I thought the name of Big 4 on my resume would fill in the gaps due to poor academic performance during engineering. I am planning to work here for 2 years (1 at least) & I am thinking of trying again for Business Analyst position at McKinsey after 1 year.but this feeling of me being an engineer working with commerce undergraduates and doing Internal Audit, is not letting me focus on my daily work hence my productivity is getting hampered. I am really CONFUSED whether or not I have taken a right decision. I am wondering what impact this decision will have when I would be applying to top 20 b-schools in UK/US/France ?? Can anyone please give me a detail explanation as an counselor, I am worried and feeling insecure . Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: My online e-commerce business is based in Alberta, how do I charge PST/GST/HST?
We've an Internet consulting service business with no physical deliveries. My understanding is the following, is it correct? -Charge GST to every one of our customers within Canada, except for people from the HST provinces where we charge HST according to their rates; -No need to charge PST at all, as I can let my customers remit PST due to their province (assuming they're honest about it); -no need for international customers. If sale < $30,000, PST/HST? ### -no need for great detail. General guidelines are fine; -don't worry about the upcoming new HST rules. moreResolved Question: An interesting story?
Tomato Millionaire - Joke An unemployed man goes to apply for a job with Microsoft as a janitor. The manager there arranges for him to take an aptitude test (Section: Floors, sweeping and cleaning). After the test, the manager says, "You will be employed at minimum wage, $5.15 an hour. Let me have your e-mail address, so that I can send you a form to complete and tell you where to report for work on your first day. Taken aback, the man protests that he has neither a computer nor an e-mail address. To this the MS manager replies, "Well, then, that means that you virtually don't exist and can therefore hardly expect to be employed. Stunned, the man leaves. Not knowing where to turn and having only $10 in his wallet, he decides to buy a 25 lb flat of tomatoes at the supermarket. Within less than 2 hours, he sells all the tomatoes individually at 100% profit. Repeating the process several times more that day, he ends up with almost $100 before going to sleep that night. And thus it dawns on him that he could quite easily make a living selling tomatoes. Getting up early every day and going to bed late, he multiplies his profits quickly. After a short time he acquires a cart to transport several dozen boxes of tomatoes, only to have to trade it in again so that he can buy a pickuptruck to support his expanding business. By the end of the second year, he is the owner of a fleet of pickup trucks and manages a staff of a hundred former unemployed people, all selling tomatoes. Planning for the future of his wife and children, he decides to buy some life insurance. Consulting with an insurance adviser, he picks an insurance plan to fit his new circumstances. At the end of the telephone conversation, the adviser asks him for his e-mail address in order to send the final documents electronically. When the man replies that he has no e-mail, the adviser is stunned, "What, you don't have e-mail? How on earth have you managed to amass such wealth without the Internet, e-mail and e-commerce? Just imagine where you would be now, if you had been connected to the internet from the very start!" After a moment of thought, the tomato millionaire replied, "Why, of course! I would be a floor cleaner at Microsoft!" Moral of this story: 1. The Internet, e-mail and e-commerce do not need to rule your life. 2. If you don't have e-mail, but work hard, you can still become a millionaire. 3. Since you got this story via the internet, you're probably closer to becoming a janitor than you are to becoming a millionaire. 4. If you do have a computer and e-mail, you have already been taken to the cleaners by Microsoft. lmao moreResolved Question: Any jobs out there in E-business\commerce?
