Q400: Businesses urged to measure energy usage

Businesses need to start measuring their energy usage and carbon footprint or face dire consequences according to a panel of experts at a Queensland 400 function today.

Australian Country Choice (ACC) Chief Executive David Foote said his philosophy is simple: "If you don't measure it, you can't manage it".

ACC monitors energy and water usage on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and is an active member of the Greenhouse Challenge and industry benchmarking programs.

It has reduced its water usage by 70 percent, but is still constrained by laws that do not allow the agribusiness to use recycled water across much of the business.

EPA Sustainable Industries Executive Director John Cole says for business, climate change "is bigger than GST, and bigger than Y2K" – but efficient reductions are doable. more

Bonanza Oil & Gas Announces Start of Damon Mound Drilling Program

HOUSTON, Jul 28, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) ----Bonanza Oil and Gas, Inc., a Nevada Corporation (OTCBB: BGOI) and an independent oil and gas company, is pleased to announce the start of the Company's drilling program on the Point Bar Prospect on Damon Mound in Brazoria County, Texas.

Bonanza Oil & Gas is beginning operations on the Damon Mound Drilling Program in Brazoria County, Texas. The first of four proposed wells are being staked and location constructed for an August 2008 spud date. "The Company is delighted that operations are starting on Damon. Women in a weak economy

That place where women-owned businesses fail at the same rate of male-owned businesses. Men and women are able to succeed and fail with no biases.

I can hear the male argument now: of course men and women are failing at the same rate. The economy doesn't care about one's gender. Then why are women leaving the workforce?

Is the economy gender-blind or are women finding it harder to bounce back this time around?

According to the Times article, a the Bureau of Labor Statistics report found that since 1960, at the end of every economic recovery there were more women working than before. Now, they're not returning.

"Indeed, for the first time since the women's movement came to life, an economic recovery has come and gone, and the percentage of women at work has fallen."

Microsoft Executive: Co. Winning Business From VMWare

REDMOND, Wash. -(Dow Jones)- Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is winning accounts from VMWare Inc. (VMW) since launching a virtualiation product that competes with that company's products, Bob Muglia, head of that division, said Thursday.

Virtualization is software technology that allows one computer processor to do the work of several by reorganizing the way tasks are allocated. Palo Alto, Calif.-based VMware is the market leader.

Microsoft launched Hyper-V, a similar virtualization product, in June.

"We are winning against VMWare. Accounts from VMWare are switching to Microsoft, Muglia, the senior vice president for Microsoft's server and tools unit, said at a meeting for financial analysts at Microsoft's Redmond, Wash., headquarters.

VMWare, earlier this week, sharply downgraded its revenue guidance, attributing this to a worsening economic environment. more
