Costly gas fails to slow holiday business at shore

Alyce Parker, a spokeswoman for Harrah's Entertainment, said business was extremely brisk with a strong lineup of entertainers, which included comedian Jerry Seinfeld at Caesars Atlantic City and singers Patti LaBelle at the House of Blues and Kenny Loggins at Bally's Atlantic City. Parker said all 6,120 rooms at Harrah's four Atlantic City casino hotels were booked and there was a large crowd at the Bally's Beach Bar.Parker said reservations filled up faster this year and she attributed it to people not wanting to travel hundreds of miles away. "This is a good two-, three-hour drive for people to have a good long-day weekend," she said of visitors from Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore.Gas prices did play a role in Heather Gerhardt and Jeff Potter's trip to the resort. The Somerdale and Cherry Hill residents relied on the train and cabs to get to the Tropicana Casino and Resort."We know it's definitely cheaper, plus you have to pay to park," Potter said. more

It was all business Tuesday morning as 25 local business people filled a classroom at Richmond Community College to learn how to sell products or to become subcontractors to the U.S. military. Hosted by U.S. Congressman Robin Hayes, the seminar was offered through RCC's Small Business Center and featured N.C. Do kids have a place in small business?

Many people choose to become small business entrepreneurs for lifestyle reasons. They want to create a business that can be designed around being able to take the kids to school or spend more time with the family. And that's one of the great things about being your own boss - you can do what you want. If you want to bring the kids to work, great. But is it really?

I was speaking to a small business entrepreneur yesterday who was shocked at a meeting she had earlier in the week. "The person I met brought her two kids along to the meeting," she said. "It was very hard to concentrate on our agenda because she kept having to talk to her kids."

It's your business - and you can let your kid cry if you want to

If you are a small business entrepreneur with children, you might want your children to attend meetings with you because you either want to spend time with them, or you can't arrange/afford childcare. more

Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. Open Question: Female Advice Please(Dating Question)?

Hey, this is sort of a long one, so stick with me please! Basically, I am completely stumped on how I should handle this situation. I'll try and be as brief as I possibly can. Basically, I go to a community college. And there is this girl who works behind the counter at the student service center, at the time I didn't know her, I just knew she was really beautiful. Eventually I worked up the courage and introduced myself to her. She turned out to be pretty friendly. Over the next month I would occasionally drop in every once in a while, say hi, pretty much small talk. It was somewhat awkward, always talking to her while she was at work, but that was the only time I ever saw her. Eventually, one day I went to see her, and I asked if she would like to go out sometime, and she said yes. I was stoked. So I asked when, and her answer was, "well things are pretty busy with finals right now, how bout after the break?" So I said sure, I was bummed I would have to wait, but stoked I got a yes. So I waited during the break. When the school session returned a couple weeks later, I brought it up to her, and this is how it went down. She said "what were you expecting out of this?" I was confused. She asked again. I told her I really liked talking to her, but it was always while she was working, and I'd really like to get to know her, and see where it went from there. That's when she said she was really sorry, but that she just didn't have time for anyone new. She explained how she's busy with work and how she's trying to concentrate really hard on school. She said she had just gotten out of a pretty bad relationship and things were just tough on her in general at the moment etc etc stuff like that. She said she was really sorry, but she just didn't have time. I told her I understood, so I figured that was that. I was understandably upset, but I figured with time I would get over it. What I want to know is, though. Based on what I said, does it seem as if she was ever genuinely interested? If she never wanted to go out in the first place, why didn't she just say no to begin with? Why say yes at all...unless she actually meant it, right? Also, she seemed genuinely sorry and felt bad. She didn't OWE me a big explanation like what she gave me. so????? So like I said, eventually I'd get over her, I would just move on. So I stopped visiting her, if I saw her walking my direction I would just keep walking. She would see me obviously, but I'd just keep walking. Really, I'm not into that phony small talk business, so I didn't really feel like talking to her at all. About a month passed by, and one day at school I was sitting on one of the benches before class, when she approaches me and sits down to talk to me. Not about what happened, but just to talk. She ended up talking with me for about a good 40 min until I had to go to class. And the following week, same thing. Why would she be doing that if she clearly told me she doesn't have time for me? Wasn't I doing her a favor by not talking to her. Isn't that what she wanted? It's making it hard to get over her when she keeps talking to me now, I guess I just don't really understand.thanks, and can't say I didn't warn you. And say she is interested in me, i've technically had to ask her out twice already. I don't know if I have it in me to ask a THIRD time. She's a tough person to read, I don't understand her. At the same time, she is really friendly and funny, and just nice to talk with. more

Open Question: Is it odd that illegal aliens can protest for rights in the U.S. but can’t do it in their country of origin?

Comprehensive Immigration Reform ‘March for America’ – Over 100,000 expected Washington D.C. - March 17 - In just a few days, Sunday, March 21, Washington will see the largest concentration of pro-immigration reform protesters in the history of the United States. This rally, will bring together legal aliens, illegal aliens, U.S. citizens, gay, black, Brazilians, Koreans, Indian, Irish, religious and non-religious people, as well as a myriad of different groups, from our “melting pot” with one goal in common – to fix our broken immigration system; a system that if left unchecked will eventually destroy families, business and the economy of the United States. People from communities across the United States are working together towards achieving the 279 votes needed to win just and humane comprehensive immigration reform legislation: 218 votes in the House of Representatives, 60 votes in the Senate, and one signature from the President. There are estimated to be between 11 and 20 million undocumented immigrants, at least 8 million of whom are in the labor force. These immigrants want to “come out of the shadows” and become productive members of the American society yet have not been able to do so because their undocumented status which give them basically no rights. They have to accept lower pay and worse working conditions than would be the case if they had legal. They are unable to drive a car, attend college and join the armed forces status or even collect unemployment benefits after they have paid into the system. The effect of the current laws undercuts the potential of millions in the country, reduces the consumption power of the working class, and, even though undocumented immigrants do pay taxes, deprives federal, state and local governments of increased revenues that would come from higher earnings. Children have the greatest problems. Some 4 million U.S. citizen children with one or both parents undocumented, who, on a daily basis face the cruel possibility of the arrest and deportation of a mother and father. Many others entered when they were young. They graduated American high schools, and now, cannot attend college, get a job or even drive a care. They are relegated to a lower class, similar to the historically “untouchables” from India. These children, who for all intents and purposes are Americans; they speak English without an accent, they are part of our culture and have little or no knowledge of their parents country and heritage. The far right anti-immigrant lobby complain that U.S. born workers that the undocumented are "stealing their jobs" and claims that their mass deportation would "open up" jobs for U.S. born workers. They have convinced many, but these people manipulate the facts to prove their point. Workers of every kind, immigrant and U.S. born, documented and undocumented, occupy jobs in the economy, but also create wealth by their toil and engage in other activities (as consumers and taxpayers) that create jobs for others. http://news.jornal.us/article-4699.Comprehensive-Immigration-Reform-March-for-America--Over-100000-expected.html more

Open Question: I love my boyfriend but hate the community we live in?

I am 25 and have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half and love him so much. He's honestly my best friend and knows me better than anyone else. The problem is, he comes from a very different background than myself. His family is very close, Italian, and all live within 5 minutes of each other. Two of his siblings (in their 30s) still live at home. We live five minutes away as well (he bought a condo before we started dating) and are expected to visit his parents' house throughout the week. I would give anything to live somewhere else (maybe to the west coast where it's warmer) but that won't happen since he works for a successful family business. My family is also close but my mom doesn't call me five times a day and know everything I'm doing. Also, I find it annoying that I don't get to see them very often as they live in a different state. So, what it comes down to is that I love him to death but am not sure if I can handle living in this community my entire life. Also, it's a very materialistic culture and I don't want my kids to pick up those superficial values. There's no way he is willing to move b/c his job is important to him, which is understandable. It's difficult for me b/c his family will make cracks about topics that I find offensive (such as racial discrimination) and are also Catholic while I am not very religious. I love him, but is it enough to put up with his lifestyle? Any suggestions on how to maybe compromise and make it work? Thanks so much!! more

Open Question: Indians, 63 years after the country was partitioned on the basis of religion why still so many communal riots?

'Maharashtra witnesses one communal (Hindu-Muslim) riot every 20th day'. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/in-the-name-of-secularism/525786/ The first major Hindu-muslim riot in independent India was as early as 1961 , the Jabalpur riots. And the latest is Bareilly riots where the losses in business may go up to several hundred crores. Why even after so many years of a partition which was based on Hindu-muslim divide , there is still so much distrust between the two communities? One may blame politicians or other organizations but when peaceful neighbours turn against each other that means there must have been lack of trust between them. Is the situation (regarding trust between the two communities) any better today than it was before Partition? What lesson then did we learn from the Partition which caused so much of bloodshed and misery to the people? more

Open Question: Business degree to run business in Maine?

I am itching to move to Maine and start a nice, quiet, beautiful life. I don't plan on building a family ANY time soon. I want to move to Maine, near the coast. I am a musician and painter, and I figure I want to own my own business selling my art and performing in the communities surrounding where I live, depending on whether or not they have coffee shops I guess. I understand that it will not be a luxurious life, and that I may not ever make ends meet, and that is fine with me. I just want to be able to make and do what I want, and enjoy life. I am getting ready to start college, and I assume that getting a business degree will help me with my endeavour of owning my own business. Correct me if I am wrong, I really am completely lost concerning what to do in college. I was going to go to school for singing, and songwriting/arrangement, but Berklee College of Music is way too damn expensive, so I am only gonna go for this summer. Then I am coming back here to Naples Fl and going to FGCU. Basically I want to know if anyone has followed there dream, particularly one similar to mine (moving to a place, being creative, making enough of a profit to live fairly comfortably, no family), and if it actually worked. If anyone has advice, concerning the college decision or the Maine decision, that'd be great. more

Open Question: What are my general chances for these schools?

I'm planning on majoring in business (specifically entrepreneurship) and would like to know *in general* what my chances of being accepted into these schools are. You don't have to answer for every single one, but if you happen to have personal experience with some of them.. :) Thanks I am involved in many clubs and am the president of two (one I started), with lots of community service. I also do design in my spare time (it's basically an online company) and sell things like shirts. I got a 2220 on the SAT and 690 on Biology E. I will take at least one more subject test. As for classes and grades, freshman year 3 of my classes were honors and I had straight A's first semester and one B second semester (4.0 and 3.8). For sophomore year, I had 2 AP's (got a 4 on both exams) and 1 honors. I had straight A's except one B each semester (4.2). For this current year, I have 2 AP's and 1 honors, with straight A's first semester (4.5). I also plan on taking 3 AP's and 1 honors class senior year. Here are the colleges I'm currently interested in: 1. UC Berkeley 2. North Carolina Chapel Hill 3. University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign 4. Loyola Marymount 5. Open Question: How can obama change anything when he cant even give strait forward answers?

A few days back I sent Obama an email not only making a statement but also asking a question. He talks about his plan to make more jobs for Americans. My question to him is how does he plan to do that when 99% of jobs require a GED or high school diploma. Here in Georgia it costs 99$ to take the GED test and 25$ for every test that has to be retaken. So if you cant get a job without a GED or high school diploma then how is someone like myself suppose to pay to take the GED test so I am able to get a job. I thought education was suppose to be free. I was a teenage mother, I had to quit school because the school I was going to didnt think I should be around other students that they thought weren't having sex. This is the email that I got back: Dear Friend: Thank you for writing to me. I appreciate hearing from you and value your input. Each day, I am moved by the messages I receive from people across the country. Far too many Americans are struggling--falling behind on mortgage payments, coping with illness, or losing a job without warning. My Administration is working to address the serious challenges our Nation faces. I am committed to taking immediate steps that generate job creation and economic recovery, and I am determined to make investments that lay a new foundation for real and lasting progress. To build this new foundation, we need health care reform--this year--that reduces costs, protects health care choices, and assures quality, affordable care for all Americans. I encourage you to visit www.HealthReform.gov to learn more about my commitment to enacting comprehensive health care reform in 2009. I am also dedicated to building a clean energy economy that creates millions of jobs, helps us achieve energy independence, and reduces pollution as we tackle the effects of global warming. Please visit www.Recovery.gov to read about the more than $60 billion in clean energy investments my Administration has made to jump-start our economy and build the jobs of tomorrow. To prepare our children to thrive in the global economy, we must guarantee every child a complete and competitive education. For information about my education reform agenda, please join me online at: www.whitehouse.gov/agenda/education. At the same time, we have an obligation to rein in our budget deficit by cutting wasteful spending and ineffective programs. We can do all this, and change the way business is done in Washington, by building the most open, transparent, and accountable government in our history. While we repair our communities, we must also recognize the important contributions of our service men and women in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other nations. Our military and their families have borne an enormous burden for their fellow citizens, serving with honor and succeeding beyond any expectation. For those who have been injured or lost their lives in pursuit of our freedom, we owe them our undying gratitude. I am committed to assisting our servicemembers, veterans, and their families and honoring our debts to them. Information on jobs, health benefits, housing assistance, and other public resources for those in need can be found by calling 1-(800)-FEDINFO or by visiting: www.usa.gov. The only way to solve the problems of our time is to involve all Americans in shaping the policies that affect our lives. I hope you continue to explore www.WhiteHouse.gov, which is regularly updated and more interactive than ever before. Thank you again for writing. Sincerely, Barack Obama To be a part of our agenda for change, join us at www.WhiteHouse.gov How does he plan to make the "no child left behind" law better if he isnt helping parents get a education so that parents can help teach there children. I was not given my free education and I am still not getting it. HELP PARENTS GET AN EDUCATION SO THEY CAN HELP TEACHERS TEACH THERE CHILDREN AND NO CHILD WILL BE LEFT BEHIND!! He cant even give straight forward answers doesn't even begin to answer what makes every American think that he is giving straight forward answers to other things, He is to worried about his agenda. more

Open Question: Job Ideas for Math Skills?

I'm looking for some creative job ideas to pursue for those with serious skill in mathematics. Quick background. I'm currently holding an AA continuing in college pursuing a BA. Currently tutoring Calculus and Statistics, studying Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Studying Probability on the side toward my long-term objective of a career in Actuary Science. I'm currently regarded as one of the top math students at my community college. Just pulled the top score for my college in the Student Math League Competition. Additional skills: I've spent considerable time studying business as well. Basic Financial and Managerial Accounting, Introductory Micro and Macro Economics, Business Law, Quickbooks-based Accounting (used to keep my personal books), Introduction to Business (overview type class). Very comfortable in Office applications. What are some ideas to capitalize on this and make some money while continuing with school? I seem to keep floundering between low-paying part-time jobs that really don't leverage my talents. At least the tutoring has the added benefit of providing constant math review. I'd like to get into something applying what I've learned. more

Open Question: My boyfriend is thinking about becoming a cop? What should I think?

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 3 years and we are both almost 21. He went to college, had to move home for financial reasons, went to a community college, and just this semester took a semester off because he didnt know what he wanted to do with his life after taking many business and computer classes and just couldn't afford to waste classes. After talking with his mother and brother, he is considering becoming a police officer. He is just in the first stages of this idea. He still has a lot of research to do etc. He had said he would want to become a cop and then possibly go back for like a criminal jutice degree to become a detective or whatever. I do not know anyone that is a cop or has ever wanted to be a cop. I am in the stages of applying for law school. And Im really not sure what to think or what goes into this? I really need some advice on what to feel and really any information you can give me please.I just wanted to clarify... I am very proud of him because this is the first time he has thought of something in his future. I just dont know anything about being a cop so I was hoping to get some information so I know what its about so that I can support him 100 percent instead of questioning it. more

Resolved Question: Why are all the people that died excellent human beings?

I know, that there are some people out there that were really horrible people when they died, but for the most part, people always say "Oh, he/she was such a great person. Great in school/business, around the community.", etc. Why is this the fact? I highly doubt everyone that passes on was such a great human-being. Insights?Good point, Tim. However, I am more leaning toward news articles, obituaries, etc. Why do people need to tell everyone else that so-and-so "was a great person"? more

Open Question: What Sims 3 Expansions or Stuff packs would you like in the future?

Ok, ok - us Sims fans do resent having to pay significantly more money at regular intervals to enhance this game, but that's how it is for now....so anyway....I've played the Sims since it first came out and still enjoy it as a spare-time waster. My wish list for expansions for the Sims 3 would be Ocean Cruise holidays, Ranch/Farm life, Pets (yes, again - I liked them!!), something similar to Open for Business where you can buy and run your own business, and the option to follow the Sims to work - especially those that find fame or reach the top of their career ladders. As for Stuff packs, I sure hope there will be some more hair very soon, and more clothing styles. I have to say that the Sims 2 was MUCH better with the range of hairstyles and clothing, and I'm disappointed with Sims 3 as it's so limited. Particularly the kids' hair - yuck! They're ALL ugly! I'd also like to be able to play more than one family per neighbourhood as has been possible in past Sims, and to be able to expand the neighbourhood by building community blocks etc. Just my two cents worth - what do you think? more

Open Question: can someone help me summarize this, i red them, but still dont understand what they were talking about. thanks?

"i dont care what BankAmerica does," fumed Lynn Martin at a meeting of the board of directors of Baytown Company, a San Francisco Bay area firm that runs four different family oriented restaurants and owns a string of six popular fast food take out established (called "Tip-Top"). "we took a principled stand at the time," she continued, "and i dont think there's enough evidence to justify changing our minds now." like a lot of local companies, Baytown supports various charitable causes in the Bay Area. the company has always figured that it had an obligation to give more back to the community than good food; besides, people in the Bay Area expect local companies to display a sense of social responsibility. among the groups that Baytown has always helped support is the regional Boy Scouts district. not only did Baytown think the Scouts worthy of its coporate help but giving to the organization seemed to fit well with Tip-Top's all American theme and with the family character of Baytown's other restaurants. a simple think suddenly got complicated, however, when the San Francisco Bay Area United Way decided to pull $1 million in annual funding for the Scouts because of the group's refusal to admit gays. soon after that, BankAmerica, Wells Fargo Bank, and Levi Strauss & Co. also decided to stop funding the Bay Scouts. a month later, Baytown's directors resolved to follow suit. "we were pretty clear at the time" continued Martin, "that we didnt have any business supporting an organization that was perceived as discriminatory." "not me" said Tom Boyd. "I always thought that since the Boy Scouts are a private group, they can do whatever they want." "well, maybe they have a right to discriminate if they wants, but that's not the point," said Ed Framers. "the rest of us agreed with Lynn that as a company we shouldn't be helping a group that discriminates. of course, that was before everybody around the country started making such as fuss about companies' stopping their funding of the Scouts. we all know about those antigay groups demonstrating against the United Way and threatening to boyscott the bank." "those groups hardly represent thinking in the Bay Area," Lynn Martin shot back. "that's true," agreed Scott Arming, "but still we run a family-oriented business." "what's that supposed to mean? do you think gays and lesbians dont come to our restaurants? do you think they dont have family? do you think?". "Ok Ok," Arming interjected. "Lynn's right about that," Ed Framers said. "in fact, as far as i know, our customers never said much about it , one way or the other." executive director Susan Lee then spoke up:"well, i got a few phone calls about it, but there werent really complaints. it was more people wanting to get more information about the situation. of course, you always get a few cranks...". "Ain't that the truth," murmured Boyd to Framers. "anyway," Lee continued, "things are different now. BankAmerica has reversed its decision and is resuming funding to the Boy Scouts because the Scouts have lifted their ban on gays." "that's what the bank says," said Lynn Martin. "but the whole thing is pretty murky if you ask me. "but then," Martin continued. "the newspaper goes on to quote a spokesperson for the Boy Scouts of America as saying that there has been 'absolutely no change in our policy. we do not believe that homosexual provide positive role models.' what are we supposed to make of that? it looks as if the bank is trying to wriggle out of a stand that turned out not to be as popular as it thought it would be." that sounds pretty cynical" Ed Framers said. "the bank says here that its decision 'was based solely on the Scouts' national president is quoted as saying that the organization is 'open to all boys as long as they subcribe to the Boy Scouts Oath and Law.' you werent a Scout, Lynn, but i was, and the oath and law are only basic stuff about trustworthiness and honesty; there's nothing about sexuality. besides we're talking about boys, not adults. i think the whole think has been blown out of proportion." Martin quickly responded," dont you think boys have sexual feelings?come on, Ed, give me a break. and besides, if there is nothing in the Scout oath or whatever it is about sexuality, why does the organization have to take a stand one way or the other?" "maybe the Scouts shouldnt have taken a stand," Susan Lee inserted, "but at this point it looks as if we have to. when we stopped giving to the Scouts, that sent one message; if we reverse our decision now, that sends another. Frankly, i dont like being in the position of having ot impose our values, one way or the oher." "yes, but you yourself said that there's no way to avoid it," Lynn Martin shot back. " so we should at least stand behind the right values." "and what are those?" asked Lee. " i dont have the slightest idea myself," Tom Boyd whispered to Scott Arming. Arming ignored him as he turned to the group: you know, i think we are and should coshould continue to be a socially responsible company. but maybe we should reconsider whether being socially responsible means giving to charitable causes in the first place. is that something we are truly obligated to do, or are we just following a fad? i mean, i hate to bring up the bottom line, but every dollar we give to the Boy Scouts or anybody else is one less dollar for the company and its stockholders." "come on, Scott, you know it's not as simple as that," responded Susan Lee. " charitable contributions bring us good will, and it's the kind of thing the community expects an enlightened company to do." "you may not be persuaded, Scott," Ed Framers added, "but i think what Susan says is right. in any case, we dont need a debate about general principles. we need to figure out what we are going to do about the Boy Scouts." more

I have my bachelors degree in Human Development. I've worked in sales/marketing for 12 years. Want out of the "rat race" so I've decided to become an RN. I need to keep my student expenses down. Thinking of going to the local community college because they have a 2-yr RN program. Is community college an okay place to go? Is it my best option considering my situation? I would eventually want to get an advanced degree from a more reputable school so I could be a nurse practitioner (or something.. would love your opinion on those options as well). I know there are many paths to becoming an RN, please give me your opinions. Also, I need to make at least 80k per year. Can I do this out of college? I have no problem working a little overtime until my salary goes up. Also, I feel that with my many, many years of management experience in the business world, i would eventually be a great candidate for a nurse manager of some sort. Would love your feedback! thank you! more

Open Question: Are minority Americans approach to the American life much smarter?

I have noticed minorities who come to US pick a spot and build a community. They open small businesses and work together to become successful rather than being employed by corporations. They rather shop at their own kind's meat markets/grocery markets etc. to keep them strong while the rest just shop at Ralphs Trader Joes etc. and keep the Corps richer and richer. Basically they dont separate and move to different states and isolating themselves from loved ones and community. more

Open Question: Why are so many ACORN offices attempting to obscure who they really are?

Merely by changing their names and printing new business cards? CHICAGO — Affiliates of the once mighty liberal activist group ACORN are remaking themselves in a desperate bid to ditch the tarnished name of their parent organization and restore federal grants and other revenue streams that ran dry in the wake of a video scandal. The letters A, C, O, R and N are coming off office doors from New York to California. Business cards are being reprinted. New signs with new names are popping up in front of offices. One of the latest groups to adopt a new name is ACORN Housing, long one of the best-funded affiliates. Now, the group is calling itself the Affordable Housing Centers of America. Others changing their names include what were among the largest affiliates: California ACORN is now Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, and New York ACORN has become New York Communities for Change. Open Question: URGENT!!! Who laid these eggs and how can I save them??? Do I have a chance?

Ok. I have only had my new aquarium for about 1 month. I have long experience with goldfish, and community tropical, but nothing of this nature. Eggs. They have been laid today sometime, on a sloping piece of driftwood. The only fish that it could be could be the brasiliensis! I have 1 black labeo (7 inches, who I am sure will eat their eggs), 1 aussie bass (4 inches), who minds her own business and is a lovely community fish but loves live food, three clown loaches (1 inch each), 2 bala/silver sharks (2 inches each) and 2 pleco catfish (1.5 inches each) and also 2 chinese algae eaters (babies). All the fish get along fine, though the labeo will hunt other fish away from his cave and food harmlessly. The brasiliensis are literally no more than 2 inches if that, including caudal. It has the be the brasiliensis. But they are so small!! I had noticed that one had a strange protrusion near the vent, and still has it. They are both defending the eggs now. It breaks my heart to see them hunt the other fish away, they are so brave. One of them just bit the labeo on the nose! And he is huge compared to them and has a very dominant personality. The problem is, there is simply no way they will be able to hold him off if he gets determined. I don't think he knows the eggs are there yet. SO, how can I save my eggs? I know it is difficult for first-spawners anyway, but I love my fish and want to do the best for them. I cannot remove the driftwood; it is huge and I do not have another tank that would fit it. I have never attempted to raise eggs or fry before. Guppies don't count, right? My tank is 4foot by 18 by 18 inches. (I understand it will be very overstocked when some of my fish grow, especially the labeo, but am saving for a huge tank.) It is very well filtered and aerated and is planted and wooded heavily. Sand substrate. For now, I will watch and wait. They are brilliant parents. Luckily, they have laid far from the labeo's normal patrol zone. the bass normally inhabits that area, but she is gentle and leaves when they attack her. I have put some flake at the opposite end of the tank, which has distracted the labeo. I will dump a lump of steamed zuchinni in there also, to keep him occupied. What else can I do? They are just so outweighed by the labeo. he is a large, powerful fish. They are just so small! this was totally unexpected! They barely have any colours yet. I only got two as I was told it is impossible to tell male and female at their age and size, and wanted to have one male in my tank. Having two doubled my chances. Pic of my tank, hope the link works: Calming down, I realise it will be very hard. Maybe if the brasiliensis were large they could fend off all the fish at once, but even if fry hatch my bass just loves live food so much they would not stand a chance. Could I remove the fry and take them to work? (there are nice spare tanks there suitable for geophagus) Do brasiliensis need close parental care? Thanks guys. Any advice would be appreciated. more

Open Question: OLDIES MUSIC RADIO-I need input!?

Well, 6 months ago I was a janitor for a radio station, then because of my college status, they gave me an internship about a month into my cleaning position. Fast forward to march 1st of this year, less than 6 months total working in radio, i was promoted to operations manager of two (yes i know, don't laugh) AM radio stations. They are located in a small town in tennessee, and it is used mostly for local news, obits, and weather. I have been placed here to revamp these stations, one of which is an oldies station, that should ABSOLUTELY be an FM, because i walk into my office, and i may hear janis joplin, the beatles, rolling stones, three dog night, king harvest, the stuff i personally love. the other station that i manage is a gospel station, and they are both great stations. The problem is, we have had half a** operations managers who have provided little to no content for our local community, so there is nothing to keep them interested after they hear the obits and weather. I have been here two weeks, going into my third week of the job, and already i have implemented short interviews in the mornings on the gospel station, non profit organizations and whatnot. I also started a bible verse of the day, and since its a small town, i started a teacher of the week on mondays, and a student of the week on fridays for the gospel station. What I am missing, is daily content for the oldies station. I want it to be something fun, and something that can be done every day, without getting boring, maybe an oldies music timeline, or something similar, any ideas would be great, because i love the station that i work for, and i hate to see it not doing well, its the only local station this community has, and i want to enhance it. I guess I also want to prove to myself, and others around me that I am capable of doing this, even though I have never worked in radio full time. Im only 21, and I have been placed in a position to be the full time DJ for these stations, and manage it as well. I am the only one in the office other than my one sales girl, so i have a lot on my plate, and i love it, but i need feedback on what you would want in a radio station, mostly for businesses and older persons, but i am also trying to change that! :) more

This letter is to inform you that I am applying for the Public Information Officer position on the N4CSGA executive board. Through my past experiences of taking marketing classes in high school, and the fact that I am currently making a news broadcast to inform the students at our institute of the upcoming events; I feel that I am qualified for the position. My work shows that I am very dedicated and have the initiative to accomplish the very demanding duties of this position. I value the opportunity to apply for this position and to be seated among the community colleges finest. I will be contacting you on the first week of April to follow up with the communication on my application more

Open Question: Which is better, starting a business or joining a large firm?

And the qualifications for better include: security, wealth (income), ability to progress (such as a booming business or being promoted), and happiness (Good time management, happy to wake up every morning to work, etc). I believe starting your own business would be better. You start out as a little seedling in this big world and can become anything that is in demand. So I guess if you are an intelligent entrepreneur, you can start small and find the needs of the current community and eventually branch. It's like taking little steps to success, and I believe it can be exponential. This could lead to a very wealthy and powerful business, and I don't believe it is "by chance." Also, you can be very passionate about your business, which would excite you every morning you woke up . It could be something that benefits or assists humanity (if you aren't a greedy business person). I guess the downsides is if the current market is failing or your business idea isn't very liked by consumers, you could lose a lot of wealth. Also, security of that business would always be an issue with failing wealth due to bills from things such as utilities, capital, etc. However, I believe it is better than joining a firm because "life is an adventure," and starting a business would really be like an adventure. If you join a large firm, you do not act much on your best interest but for the companies. You could be doing you like, such as science, but you never really know what your company aims for (profit, power, etc). Also, you work on their schedule and need to get things done on their time or your kicked out. It could mentally fatigue you. And like they say, big businesses don't have a heart and soul, and their lifeblood is profit. more

Open Question: Business Management or Marketing?

I am currently enrolled to start college in the fall, and I have a tough choice ahead. I am very interested in both business management and marketing. But Im not sure which one would be better off for the future. To me it doesnt really matter which one I take, but I need to make a desicion and one fast. I was wondering which one would be more job secure, and which one would tend to pay the most. I plan on starting with an associates from a community college and then eventually getting a masters degree in it. more
