Triarc Announces Plans for Key Leadership Positions at Wendy's
Mr. Karam will succeed Kerrii B. Anderson, who currently serves as both President and Chief Executive Officer. As announced on April 24, 2008, Roland Smith, Triarc's Chief Executive Officer, will also assume the position of Chief Executive Officer of Wendy's. Mr. Farrar will succeed Dave Near, who will resume his role as a leading Wendy's franchisee. Mr. Calwell will succeed Paul Kershisnik, who was named interim Chief Marketing Officer in February 2008. Mr. Kershisnik will continue in his role as interim CMO through the closing of the merger and then plans to work closely with Calwell in a senior leadership role in marketing.
Mr. Karam currently is a minority shareholder and serves as President of Cedar Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates 135 Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurants in Indianapolis, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Hartford and Seattle. more

Door-To-Door Verizon Salesman Can't Keep His Pants Shut While On
We're not big fans of door-to-door marketing, and today we bring you another example of why we feel this way. According to the News-Journal, an employee of a marketing firm contracted by Verizon has been arrested and charged with two counts of "lewdness, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing," after a man in a Verizon t-shirt was spotted "masturbating while watching a woman work in her garden."

On Monday, residents in the North Graylyn Crest neighborhood told police they saw a man hiding behind a vehicle who appeared to be masturbating while watching a woman work in her garden, said New Castle County police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro.
The man was described as wearing a Verizon T-shirt.
Police searched the area but couldn't find the man. more

I'm a graphic designer. I create business cards, door hangers, pamphlets, rack cards, presentation folders, etc etc etc. Here's how a sale goes: 1. Meet the customer. 2. Learn what the customer needs. 3. Bring the need home to get a bid from a company in another state who does all the work, with whom I'm not an employee, partner or anything (just another customer - or "broker"). 4. E-mail, call or hand-deliver the bid to the customer for the product the customer wants. 5. Collect the money (my cost + mark-up). 6. Send the design to the company in another state. 7. Keep the profit. 8. The product is then sent to the customer (blind-shipped so they don't know who exactly did the printing) or sent to me if the customer would prefer that I deliver the product myself. 9. Rinse, repeat. I have found definitions on the internet that say retail businesses: 'Retailing' consists of the sale of goods/merchandise for personal or household consumption either from a fixed location such as a department store or kiosk, and In commerce, a retailer buys goods or products in large quantities from manufacturers or importers, either directly or through a wholesaler, and then sells individual items or small quantities to the general public or end user customers, ... so, I think I'm actually a Service business since I process one order at a time, I don't create the product or purchase it in advance of the sale and I don't hold any inventory. I don't do any work besides making the sale and creating the artwork on my computer. Last year, my husband's clothing store was raided by police. Yes he sold counterfeit merchandise and is very sorry for it. I have a small startup business selling bridal gowns and accessories wholesale to the public and stores, and I primarily work as e-commerce right now. I have been posting to hire Independent Bridal Consultants as independent contractors (think Avon sales), but everyone who is interested that I send information to thinks it's a scam. It is legitimate, and it can have some really good pay (commission of 75%), and it's great as a second job because it's an independent position, so you can work your own hours, etc. Everything seems legit to me, but I keep losing people who show an interest once I send them the info. How do I make myself seem more legit? Should I post a phone number so they know they are dealing with a real person? What should I do? I don't want to keep losing people because it's holding me back. I don't have the kind of money to hire people with a salary, so right now all I can do is commission, and since they don't have to put anything into this other than a little time (seriously, about 6 hours a week should do it, and they can make a lot of money), I think that's a good deal. In all accounts, I am a rookie who is, in the near-future, about to dive into the risky entitlement of business ownership. This is going to be a purely E-Commerce Business, that is, until profits rise high enough where I am able to purchase a massive building... the H.Q. I have a general business plan which will only become more specific as the day of judgment, Day One, approaches. I intend to use my own funds to start this movement ((when I obtain roughly about $4,000 from my current job))... I already have a good coding expert on my side, who happens to be my good friend. I also have my other friend who is majoring in accounting. They will be my partners in crime as this company begins to take off; My Coder handling the Behind the Scenes work ((updating the website with goodies and whatnot)) and my Accountant handling the funds and sales records. I myself am concerning myself with customer representation ((one of my top top top priorities ^_^)), optimism, goal setting, legalities ((need to find a lawyer)), third party deals, vendor relationship, etc. I have a lot to learn, but I'm quite confident I shall be successful. I don't really intend to seek Angel Investors, or whatnot, in the beginning, since I feel $4,000 for an e-commerce business + the funds from my current job, will suffice. Only when I start seeing profits, as well as get a feel for the business and people, coming in will I seek to expand the empire... but, only when things are stabilized. Once the investors come a knocking, or vise-versa hehe, will I then begin to reach around all corners and blocks, being ever vigilante to the changes that may go on around me. Hi, If my LLC is incorporated in Delaware (0% sales tax) and I drop ship my products from California (7.25% sales tax), do I have to charge Sales Tax to my customer if my business is all e-commerce/online and some telephone/mail order? I was in college a couple days ago, and after i came out of my class, my roommate called me saying two new york state troopers came looking for me and asking him questions if i have been receiving any packages or not. Now the thing is, I came across an email (like the countless emails we get giving us home business offers, work part time from home, make some side money etc), and that email said that it was looking for people to work from home, like a small home business. I usually don't fall for these offers, but I decided to give it a try. The person emailed me back, saying that he has a small electronics business, and he has a lot of people around America working for him through ebay, craigslist, etc. He forwarded a website to me, in which I was to fill up all my information. And he said it was strictly e-commerce, so he would contact me through ims, or emails, etc. The "business" was, he was to send me items and in my absence, send them to some place of my preference, that I could try and keep, if i decided to keep, i would have to pay him, if i decided not to keep anything, i could sell them on ebay, or cl, and make some commission off the sale. I kept doing it for a few months, and I had absolutely no clue what was going on until one day I was talking to my cousin in Australia, and I told him how I was making some extra cash doing this part time work. He IMMEDIATELY warned me, and told me to stop this, as it might be illegal, and the guy might be using me. I contacted the person, and asked him that I do not want to do this business anymore, and he even tried to tempt me by saying that he will give me bigger shares. However, when I refused, he threatened me, and said if I talk to anyone about this he will get me in trouble. When I said I will go to the cops and tell them everything, he even said that if I even try contacting any law authorities, he will get me in so much trouble that I will not be able to see daylight again. So I just blocked and deleted him, and deleted all his mails, and didn't want anything to do with him again. Now a couple days ago, the state investigators went to my friend at the mall where a couple things were sent. And he told them that he had no idea about anything illegal going on. They took my info from him, and came looking for me at my residence, told my roommate there is some credit card fraud, and whether I have received any packages or not. And my roommate having no clue of anything going on said he does not know anything. They left a number and asked him to tell me to call them. I called but the guy wasn't there, so he called back yesterday, and once again I was in class, and after class I called him back. He asked for my name, dob, etc. and said that they want to talk to me with something very very serious, and said that "..we want to talk to you about something, let's say, criminal, and for your own sake, i would want you to cooperate, if not, i can assure you that i will make your life very very miserable..". Now, I'm an international student here, on an F-1 Visa, and I had no idea that I was being used in any way by some guy from pakistan. All I know of him is his name, and the city he lives in pakistan. I would not even go near anything illegal, I had no clue what was going on, and as soon as I realized I stopped IMMEDIATELY, and I have not done anything wrong in my life. So basically I hate working long hours, telemarketing and getting paid $1200 a month. A friend of mine offered me a full time at metro pcs with $8 to $9 an hour full time. Mises had told us the collapse was coming, and we should have been prepared. As America comes to resemble a command economy, we need a transition plan here too. Yuri Maltsev proposed a "One-Day Plan" for the U. S. S. R. We're not in that bad a shape (yet), so we could do it in 30 days. DAY ONE: The federal income tax is abolished and April 15th is declared a national holiday. The 40% reduction in federal revenues is matched by a 40% cut in spending. The budget is still almost twice as big as Jimmy Carter's. DAY TWO: All other federal taxes are abolished, including the corporate income tax, the capital gains tax, the gasoline tax, "sin" taxes, excise taxes, etc. Businesses boom, and the few legitimate federal functions are funded with an inexpensive head tax. People who choose not to vote need not pay it. (Note: this was a mainstream view in the 19th century.) DAY THREE: The federal government sells all its land, freeing up tens of millions of acres for development, mining, farming, forestry, oil drilling, private parks, etc. The government uses the revenue to pay off the national debt and other liabilities. DAY FOUR: The minimum wage is reduced to zero, creating jobs for ex-federal bureaucrats at their market wage. All pro-union laws and regulations are scrapped. The jobless rate falls dramatically. DAY FIVE: The Bureau of Labor Statistics, like the rest of the Labor Department, is sent to that big hiring hall in the sky. Private charity explodes, as the American people, already the most generous in the world, find their incomes almost doubled, thanks to the tax cuts. DAY TWELVE: The Federal Reserve closes its open-market operations and stops protecting the banking industry from competition. But banks can now engage in all the non-bank financial activities previously forbidden to them. The business cycle, which is caused by monetary expansion through the credit markets, is liquidated. DAY THIRTEEN: Federal deposit insurance is scrapped. All insured deposits are redeemed from federal assets, which include the personal assets of high-level government employees. The threat of bank runs forces banks to keep 100% reserves for their demand deposits, and prudent reserves on all other accounts. There are no more inherently bankrupt banks propped up by the government, at taxpayer expense, and no more bail outs. DAY FOURTEEN: The shaky fiat dollar is defined in terms of gold, with the ratio determined by dividing the government's gold stock by all existing dollars on that day. DAY FIFTEEN: The federal government sells National and Dulles airports to the highest bidder, and stops all subsidies to other socialist airports around the country. All constraints on airline prices and service cease. It costs more to fly during peak hours than off-peak, but overall, air travel drops in price. DAY SIXTEEN: All government regulations that create and sustain cartels are abolished, including those for the post office, telephones, television, radio, and cable TV Prices plummet, and a host of new and unforeseen services becomes available. Local school districts become responsive to parents or close, pressured by a fast-growing private school sector (which many more parents can now afford). The public wanders through the federal offices to make sure, in a reprise of the East Berliners' visits to Stasi headquarters. DAY TWENTY-TWO: Equal rights are granted to all Americans, even members of non-victim groups. There is no affirmative action, no quotas, no set-asides, no public accommodations laws. Private property and freedom of association are fully restored. DAY TWENTY-THREE: The EPA is cleaned out, with all "clean air" and similar big-government laws repealed. Ten thousand lawyers leap from their balconies. Private property is established in air and water. Americans harmed by pollution are free to sue the polluters, who are no longer protected by the federal government. DAY TWENTY-FOUR: Americans are given complete freedom of contract, restoring rationality to malpractice and product liability law. DAY TWENTY-FIVE: Government scrambles for more assets to sell (i.e., the National Zoo, also known as Washington, D.C.) to pay off the liabilities of the privatized Social Security system. DAY TWENTY-SIX: Porno artists have to earn their own livings, as the National Endowment for the Arts tries to raise its budget through sidewalk painting sales. DAY TWENTY-SEVEN: Foreign aid is outlawed as unconstitutional, unjust, and un-economic. Foreign politicians have to steal their own money. The World Bank, IMF, and United Nations close their super- luxurious doors. DAY TWENTY-EIGHT: The American people are given the unrestricted right to keep and bear arms. DAY TWENTY-NINE: The Defense Department is reoriented towards defense. American troops come home from all around the world. We adopt a policy of armed neutrality, remembering the Founding Fathers' teaching that we could not have an empire abroad and a constitutional republic at home. DAY THIRTY: All tariffs, quotas, and trade agreements are put through the shredder. Americans can trade with anyone in the world, without barriers or subsidies.
