Halliburton opens Malaysian manufacturing center
Halliburton Co. has officially opened a manufacturing center in the Malaysian province of Johor, the company's sixth in the Eastern Hemisphere.
The 215,000-square-foot facility will manufacture completion equipment and cementing tools to significantly expand Halliburton's supply chain capabilities in the region, and is the latest move to further narrow the gap between Eastern and Western Hemisphere operations.
About 100 employees are currently employed at facility, located in Senai, 37 miles northwest of the capital city of Singapore, and 250 are expected by year's end.
"The addition of the Johor facility is another step in our company's strategic plan to concentrate more of our investments and supply chain resources to our key growth areas," said David King, president of Halliburton's Completion and Production division. more

. moreReserve deputies handling industrial traffic duties
PASCAGOULA -- Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has hired reserve sheriff's deputies for traffic control on Industrial Road while major expansions and other projects take place.
Between four to eight reserve deputies are positioned every weekday morning and evening around shift changes for Chevron and other industries when about 11,000 vehicles travel the road, Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
Chevron spokesman Steve Renfroe said the company is using a parking area near the old county airport for contractors, including those working on the refinery's $500 million expansion of its continuous catalyst regeneration unit.
Because other industries' entrances are located north of Chevron's and closer to U.S. 90, Renfroe said, the company wanted to ensure that traffic around the other plants would not become snarled in lengthy traffic jams. more

e-commerce business-to-consumer and business-to-business commerce conducted by way of the Internet or other electronic networks. E-commerce originated in a standard for the exchange of documents during the 1948 – 49 Berlin blockade and airlift. Various industries elaborated upon the system until the first general standard was published in 1975. The electronic data interchange (EDI) standard is unambiguous, independent of any particular machine, and flexible enough to handle most simple electronic transactions. In addition to standard forms for business-to-business transactions, e-commerce encompasses much wider activity — for example, the deployment of secure private networks (intranets) for sharing information within a company, as well as selective extensions of a company's intranet to collaborating business networks (extranets). A new form of cooperation known as a virtual company, actually a network of firms, each performing some of the processes needed to manufacture a product or deliver a service, has flourished. http://www.e-commerce.com.sg/ moreVoting Question: Schedule C Deduction Questions?
Hi, I am filing business taxes for the first time and I have a few questions regarding the advertising deductions on a schedule C. My business is both internet based and I travel to craft fairs; all of my products are hand made. As such I had to make quite a few products to get the business going for show at the fair and to have pictures to post online. Are the expenses I incurred making these products tax deducible? As an advertising or some other expense? Or not since they're technically still in my inventory even though I'll never sell them (they are personalized with fake names as examples)? In addition to these products I've made another set of products just to take pictures of (to post online for my e-commerce store), and then gave them away. Can any of this be expensed? Also I bought tables, chairs, and various other equipment for my craft fair booth -- can any of this be expensed? Thank you! moreResolved Question: I am looking forward to get marketing service people online, any help or advise?

Im doing E-commerce at uni and have to write an essay on the following topic.. E-business has a global reach. Some organizations may wish to take advantage of the "eigth continent" that the internet has created while others may be content to remain within their own comfort zone.If you were responsible for your organization's web-site and E-business presence ,discuss how you would approach the task of integrating the globalization of your organizations offerings using new technologies that the internet has spawed. Can anyone give me any advice?..especially on "the eighth continent" phrase..thank you:) moreResolved Question: What kind of business is this? Retail? Wholesale? Service? Or what else?
I'm a graphic designer. I create business cards, door hangers, pamphlets, rack cards, presentation folders, etc etc etc. Here's how a sale goes: 1. Meet the customer. 2. Learn what the customer needs. 3. Bring the need home to get a bid from a company in another state who does all the work, with whom I'm not an employee, partner or anything (just another customer - or "broker"). 4. E-mail, call or hand-deliver the bid to the customer for the product the customer wants. 5. Collect the money (my cost + mark-up). 6. Send the design to the company in another state. 7. Keep the profit. 8. The product is then sent to the customer (blind-shipped so they don't know who exactly did the printing) or sent to me if the customer would prefer that I deliver the product myself. 9. Rinse, repeat. I have found definitions on the internet that say retail businesses: 'Retailing' consists of the sale of goods/merchandise for personal or household consumption either from a fixed location such as a department store or kiosk, and In commerce, a retailer buys goods or products in large quantities from manufacturers or importers, either directly or through a wholesaler, and then sells individual items or small quantities to the general public or end user customers, ... so, I think I'm actually a Service business since I process one order at a time, I don't create the product or purchase it in advance of the sale and I don't hold any inventory. I don't do any work besides making the sale and creating the artwork on my computer. Is this retail because a product is being sold, or is this service since I'm a print broker and sell the service of design which leads to the final product being delivered to a customer's hand? moreResolved Question: Why is the first thing activists say ICE audits are tearing families part. Didn't actvists also say better?
Why is the first think activists say is ICE audit is tearing families part. Didn't activists also say better illegal immigration be left up to the feds and when the feds do it,the activists start in on audits are tearing families part and the feds must not enforce immigration matters ? EL PASO -- At least 41 businesses in El Paso will be part of a national audit of 1,000 businesses by federal officials looking for immigration violations in hiring workers. The audit will be among the biggest in El Paso by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a move that drew immediate criticism from a local immigrant-rights group. The local businesses chosen for audits were not named, but the agency said on its Web site that all the businesses selected for inspection were the "result of investigative leads and intelligence É and connection to public safety and national security." The Border Network for Human Rights, based in El Paso, opposed the audits. "We are saddened and disappointed that two years after the disastrous 2007 immigration raids that tore apart families and penalized American businesses, the federal government is once again adopting a shortsighted enforcement-only approach to immigration policy," the group said in a prepared statement. The group also said the federal government should concentrate its efforts on fighting crimes along the border such as drug trafficking and gang activity instead of "harassing hardworking families and business owners." Of the 1,000 businesses nationwide, 161 are in Texas. In addition to the ones in El Paso, there are about 60 in the San Antonio area and 40 in the Houston area. When the audits will take place and how they will be conducted has not been announced. "ICE is focused on finding and penalizing employers who believe they can unfairly get ahead by cultivating illegal workplaces," ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton said on the agency's Web site. According to The Associated Press, dairy farmers in Vermont were among the businesses getting notifications from immigration officials to turn over payroll and hiring records, said Kelly Loftus, spokeswoman for the Vermont Agency of Agriculture. Some dairy farmers say they use foreign workers because it is hard to find people locally for the work. Richard Dayoub, president and CEO of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, said, "They (ICE) are really taking an effort by their part to understand the depth of the problem. I'm not sure what they will accomplish." At the same time, the Homeland Security Department announced it would give a seal of approval to businesses volunteering to use an electronic program to check workers' immigration status. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Thursday that the public should know which companies are following the law. The problem is that the program known as E-Verify is still under development, and the law does not require employers to use it. They are required to use a paper system. E-Verify is an Internet- based system that allows employers to voluntarily determine the eligibility of new hires to work in the United States, using information provided on the employee's I-9 form. The E-Verify campaign is being promoted by ICE as a way to help employers maintain a legal work environment. "All employers have an obligation to assure that they have a work force that complies with the law," El Paso Mayor John Cook said. "They E-Verify system will implement technology to assist employers with that responsibility." Cindy Ramos-Davidson, CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said she felt that the E-Verify system was not up to speed, and that all it took was one small error to set up a business for litigation. The last nationwide audit conducted by ICE resulted in 14,000 suspicious documents. The Border Network for Human Rights said in its statement that it "hopes that the Obama administration will rethink this outdated strategy and keep his campaign promise to implement comprehensive immigration reform." http://www.elpasotimes.com/ci_13837362?source=most_emailed Why do activists feel illegals should not be held to any standard in the work place and ICE should not bother illegals even when they use document , stolen documents as such documents enable illegal to have a better life and current laws are unjust. People feel its ok to break laws without any punishment since what they are doing is offering them a better life ? Is this how activists believe our immigration laws must be directed ?Why is the first thing activists say ICE audits are tearing families apart. moreVoting Question: I need help finding a business related article or magazine article!?

We've an Internet consulting service business with no physical deliveries. My understanding is the following, is it correct? -Charge GST to every one of our customers within Canada, except for people from the HST provinces where we charge HST according to their rates; -No need to charge PST at all, as I can let my customers remit PST due to their province (assuming they're honest about it); -no need for international customers. If sale < $30,000, PST/HST? ### -no need for great detail. General guidelines are fine; -don't worry about the upcoming new HST rules. moreResolved Question: Discount Death: Wal-Mart Sells Caskets Online?
Read this story: The price of being dead just dropped. It is a good thing, given the troubles in the economy. Wal-Mart is beginning to sell caskets and urns at walmart.com. Some of the caskets are prices as low as $999 and ship within 48-hours. It is a shame when a family won’t pay the full $1,00o when a loved one dies. Wal-Mart, of course, sells everything on line and has the second most visited e-commerce site in the country, so caskets and urns are just an extension of making walmart.com the internet destination for all shopping. And some of the products are pretty attractive. Who could pass up the ”Pieta and Last Supper Steel Casket” for only $1,599 or the “Dad Remembered Steel Casket” for $995? Does that come with free shipping? It won’t be long until Wal-Mart is in the business of selling burial plots. The Wal-Mart casket business may simply be an example of what happens in a recession. People will shop for almost anything based on price. Most families do not want to go all the way down-scale and buy or build a pine box. A bad economy probably makes cremation more attractive. Wal-Mart’s slogan is “Save Money. Live Better.” The world’s largest retailer is going to have to add “Die Better” to the slogan, too. Now, my question is: What do you think Wal-Mart will start selling next? My guess is either hookers or have their own gas station. moreResolved Question: Does anyone think this is creepy?

I have a somewhat new business, and I am registered with my state (tax license) and with the Federal Government (Employer ID Number). So far I have been the sole employee as well as owner and operator, and I have come to the realization that, with all the work I have to do "behind the scenes" I am unable to get as much done out in the field as I need to. So I am hiring an employee. I need to find out what exactly I have to do to legally employ someone. I have found a few things on the internet, but nothing extremely helpful. I need the experience of someone who has done this before. What laws do I need to know about? How do I go about reporting my new employee to the state and federal government? How do I do tax withholding from their pay? Anything else that anyone has to tell me would be great. I don't want to get me or my future new employee in trouble, so a step by step outline would be great! Right now my business is recognized by the state as an e-commerce business, and from what I read I don't have to change the classification because I am still primarily doing my sales online. My new employee will be contacting retail stores to sell my products to them, but the majority of my sales come from online. Any advice? What do I have to do? Thanks in advance! Also, as this is a newer business, I have not made much profit yet, so I can't afford to pay a lawyer or CPA or anyone else for their time to talk to them. At first try do choose a reliable business web hosting provider which is uptime. Hosting uptime refers to the percentage of time the host is accessible via the internet. It is very important your service be uptime (functioning and available for use). Advise please?
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to enter. We've been marketing products around the globe without the internet for quite a while. Recently entered to the business of e-commerce a year ago, and we're attracted to websites such as e-Bay and iOffer. We had no problem with e-Bay, however, our iOffer's account was left with a "no longer a member" for no valid reason on the 2nd or 3rd day after the registration. This happens on our first and second account. We've checked around but have yet to find out why it happens, and we'd really appreciate it if someone can give us a hint of how to avoid such problem in the future as we really wishes to trade in iOffer. PS: iOffer support never replies to us, which left us confused of what happened to our account. We thank you for reading and we hope to hear from you soon. :) moreResolved Question: Do you sell on EBAY? If so, did you get this email, and what do you think about it?
Protect your business--get involved in eBay's Citizen Action Network 2009 is shaping up to be a historic year in Washington, DC and state capitals around America. We face the most challenging economy in decades, a new President, and strong majorities in Congress looking to take bold action. Some of the biggest companies in America are lobbying Congress to make their interests known. And make no mistake, not all of their interests are aligned with those of Internet entrepreneurs like you. Here are three issues you need to be aware of: Remote sales taxes Today, eBay sellers are required to collect sales taxes only in states where they're located, not all of the states (and thousands of local jurisdictions) where their customers live. A number of states and big retailers are pushing to impose remote sales taxes on small Internet sellers. Big retailers know increased sales tax burdens will hurt their smaller competitors. "Stolen Goods" legislation Representatives of some of the nation's largest retailers recently claimed that many eBay sellers are listing stolen goods, a baseless charge that hurts every honest seller. Big retailers are pushing legislation to prohibit some eBay categories and require sellers to post their personal information and show receipts for the purchase of merchandise sold online. Price fixing A 2007 Supreme Court decision reversed the federal law that made price fixing an illegal anti-trust violation. Overturning this nearly 100-year-old precedent has empowered manufacturers and their large retail distributors to aggressively enforce minimum prices on the Internet, which hurts eBay sellers and the Internet as a whole. All of these threats and more face small entrepreneurial retailers using the Internet to compete and survive in this economic climate. The eBay Government Relations team is working to protect eBay sellers from harmful legislation in both Congress and state capitals. But we need your help--and your voice--to make a major impact. If you haven't joined Main Street yet, please join 250,000 other eBay users in protecting e-commerce. Together, we can make a big difference. moreResolved Question: Do I need a retail license for an e-commerce site in NYC?
Hi! My wife has an incredible recipe for a specialty baked product. She wants to start a business out of our kitchen, selling and shipping this product using e-commerce. Are there any barriers to doing such a thing? Regulations or laws? moreResolved Question: Selling oriental rugs?
My parents used to sell rugs (they have a large collection of oriental rugs in their house) by teaching an adult education course at a local high school and inviting people to an open house. Since they didn't elect to teach the course this semester, they feel that they have no hope of selling rugs. I'm sure there are a lot of ways of promoting my parents rug business/collection on the internet without the course. My parents are not particuarly familiar with e-commerce, and I am only marginally familiar with it. What's the best way to use the internet to help my parents business? moreResolved Question: Self learn PHP and MySQL?

I would like to learn enough PHP to understand website scripts written by other people (i.e. shopping site scripts) and make changes to them. What kind of books, video tutes are helpful? Approx how long will it take to learn the basics if I study couple of hrs each day? -Your help is much appreciated. moreVoting Question: Despite the difficulties, ?
Despite the difficulties, many technology companies experienced when the dot-com bubble burst - Internet commerce (e-business) is here to stay. What resources does an International Internet retailer need other than merely a storefront on the Internet? Does it require fewer physical, financial, and human resources than a traditional retailer, or just as many? Explain. moreResolved Question: An interesting story?
Tomato Millionaire - Joke An unemployed man goes to apply for a job with Microsoft as a janitor. The manager there arranges for him to take an aptitude test (Section: Floors, sweeping and cleaning). After the test, the manager says, "You will be employed at minimum wage, $5.15 an hour. Let me have your e-mail address, so that I can send you a form to complete and tell you where to report for work on your first day. Taken aback, the man protests that he has neither a computer nor an e-mail address. To this the MS manager replies, "Well, then, that means that you virtually don't exist and can therefore hardly expect to be employed. Stunned, the man leaves. Not knowing where to turn and having only $10 in his wallet, he decides to buy a 25 lb flat of tomatoes at the supermarket. Within less than 2 hours, he sells all the tomatoes individually at 100% profit. Repeating the process several times more that day, he ends up with almost $100 before going to sleep that night. And thus it dawns on him that he could quite easily make a living selling tomatoes. Getting up early every day and going to bed late, he multiplies his profits quickly. After a short time he acquires a cart to transport several dozen boxes of tomatoes, only to have to trade it in again so that he can buy a pickuptruck to support his expanding business. By the end of the second year, he is the owner of a fleet of pickup trucks and manages a staff of a hundred former unemployed people, all selling tomatoes. Planning for the future of his wife and children, he decides to buy some life insurance. Consulting with an insurance adviser, he picks an insurance plan to fit his new circumstances. At the end of the telephone conversation, the adviser asks him for his e-mail address in order to send the final documents electronically. When the man replies that he has no e-mail, the adviser is stunned, "What, you don't have e-mail? How on earth have you managed to amass such wealth without the Internet, e-mail and e-commerce? Just imagine where you would be now, if you had been connected to the internet from the very start!" After a moment of thought, the tomato millionaire replied, "Why, of course! I would be a floor cleaner at Microsoft!" Moral of this story: 1. The Internet, e-mail and e-commerce do not need to rule your life. 2. If you don't have e-mail, but work hard, you can still become a millionaire. 3. Since you got this story via the internet, you're probably closer to becoming a janitor than you are to becoming a millionaire. 4. If you do have a computer and e-mail, you have already been taken to the cleaners by Microsoft. lmao moreVoting Question: Sponsership needed to work in usa?

I have no idea how much time it takes to write a blog versus creating, maintaining, and editing it (keeping up with and implementing the latest developments in internet technology and the blogosphere). My friend says he has 10 years of experience with web development and could provide all of the "internet marketing, e-commerce, blogging, search engine optimization, web application development, social networking, social media optimization, graphic design, interface design, copywriting, etc." He proposed splitting the profits from ads, affiliate links, etc. 50/50 and letting me keep 100% of the profits I get from referrals for my private counseling business, but 50/50 feels too high. What do you think is a reasonable percentage split of profits? Would you recommend splitting profits, or having some other business model (flat fee, hourly pay, etc.)?
