CBRE-Dallas names managing director of institutional business
The commercial real estate services firm CB Richard Ellis said Wednesday it had hired Blair Oden to serve as managing director of institutional business at its Dallas office.
In his new role, Oden will manage a team of brokers that work directly with clients in the areas of office and industrial brokerage services, as well asset management.
Oden also will help North Texas Senior Managing Director Mark Fewin coordinate and integrate CBRE’s (NYSE: CBG) capital markets and institutional groups in the Dallas office.
"Blair is going to be a great addition to our team here in Dallas for both our clients and employees," Fewin said. "We look forward to getting him acclimated with our core values and then building upon our strengths as we move forward with new business initiatives."
Blair previously was with Duke Realty, where he oversaw office leasing and development and played a key role in spearheading build-to-suit office developments for major clients such as T-Mobile in Frisco and Galderma Laboratories in Fort Worth. more
NBF closes half-year with AED 153.5 million net profit
The half year result was AED 0.9 million above the corresponding half year profit in 2007, but NBFs strong core business performance coupled with the appreciation of investment fair values, helped bridge a 31% deficit in the first quarter earnings of 2008.
Our earnings from core business areas are better than ever, especially the progress we have made with foreign exchange and fee income. We have brought our Commercial Banking Business (formerly SME) together with Corporate Banking under the single umbrella of Wholesale Banking and that area continues to perform well. said Steve Mullins, CEO.
The net results for the first quarter were impacted by the global investment climate, causing a significant decline in the fair value of the banks investment portfolio. We said at the time that we expect a recovery in investment fair values and this has proven to be the case, added Mullins. more
When Good Isn't Good Enough
Deutsche Bank (NYSE: DB) found that businesses with strong or improving corporate governance practices outperformed those with poor or deteriorating practices by about 19% over a two-year period, while a Harvard-Wharton study found that U.S.-based companies with better governance practices had faster sales growth and were more profitable than their peers.
The Stanford study is important because it underscores that investors shouldn't rely on any one data point for their decisions. Yet, even if a good governance measure won't clue you in to whether a company will restate its earnings or be subject to an SEC investigation, that doesn't mean it isn't still a valuable practice.
