Items stolen from vehicles parked outside businesses
MOUNT LAUREL � Global positioning systems, a music player and several checks were stolen during separate vehicle burglaries in the township, police said.
The burglaries occurred outside businesses on Eastgate Drive and Roland Avenue and at the Wahoo's Swim Club on Church Road.
Police said GPS systems and an iPod were stolen from the vehicles at the businesses. Twelve checks were stolen from the vehicle at the swim club.
All three burglaries occurred Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Two of the vehicles were locked and had windows smashed.
The third was unlocked, police said.

While sales and profit figures were largely unchanged in the last three months of 2007, prospects have fallen sharply for the next six months, The Business Times and SIM University poll revealed.
The survey showed that the business prospects net balance - or difference between the percentage of optimistic and pessimistic companies - fell to 20 per cent from 39 per cent.
"The firms may be overly pessimistic because of the grim prospects in the US economy, accompanying volatile and weak stock markets and rising oil prices," said Chow Kit Boey, director of the quarterly survey of 128 companies.
Some 71 per cent of the firms have overseas business. more

New River Technical and Community College is trying to make sure their students are well prepared for the business world. They held a forum today with area businesses and colleges to discuss what type of curriculum to include in a new program they're starting. The Mechatronics Program will be held at a new facility on Stafford Drive in Princeton. Skills that were considered included technical skills, management and leadership.

Andover business owners have their say over parking fee increase
ANDOVER — Downtown business owners came out in force last night to oppose the 50-cent parking meter rates set to go into effect in June.
In response, the selectmen decided to form a task force to study the business district parking problem. The board could decide to keep the rates at the current 25 cents, add more free short-term parking in the town's center, create parking permits or continue with its plan to double the rates. "We want to create a plan so when we do implement fee changes, there's agreement to what it looks like," selectmen Chairman Brian Major said. Resolved Question: Difficulty with my mother (i am an adult)?
First of all, I love my mom and would like nothing more than to ignore this problem, but it's impossible. Picture the show Animal cops, the ones with the dog hoarders and the feces and urine and junk everywhere. well, that plus an inch or two of excrement is my mom with the added bonus of roaches and mice. she was that way for years, then about a year ago, she decided to buy a new home, and promised it would remain dog free. the only issue then was her husband's chain smoking and the yellow tar all over the house, but at least we could visit for a little while and he could just leave the room to smoke. anyway, i recently had my second son, and my 4 year old had to stay with my mom while i was in the hospital due to some major complications. although she'd brought a couple toy sized dogs into the house, when i'd been there personally, it was reasonably clean. (clutter, but no excrement) my son came home with strange red bites all over him, and i began to get concerned. well, i recently took a trip with my mom and had to spend the night with her the night prior to leaving. she picked me up from my house (4 hours from hers) along with my 2 kids and we went to hers. when i walked in i was shocked to find a fresh layer of poo and pee on top of a few old layers. if i had a way to leave, i would have left immediately (my husband had our truck for a business trip and our second car is being repaired, or i would have had a way to drive myself.) i just took my infant son and my 4 year old into our room (which luckily was dog free) and made the best of the few hours we had to stay. my mother suffers from several problems, including depression and ptsd from a very abusive childhood. she loves my sons and would do nothing to hurt them, but the few times my four year old has stayed in her new home (before it was pooped all over) i had relatives who live near make sure they checked in to make sure it wasn't too overwhelming for her. here is my question/issue. i know she has a problem. i understand having an abusive childhood (she left me with my father and i suffered abuse like she did.) i understand being overwhelmed, but my take on it is that you can't allow it to ruin the rest of your life. she still plays the victim card daily and uses it as an excuse to validate her filth. everytime she talks to me about it, i want to tell her to get over it because i know it's possible to. i did. she threw me to the wolves as a child and i forgave her, moved on and i now have a beautiful family and a fairly good relationship with her. i don't hold it against her and don't use my past to excuse mistreating myself of my children. so i know she has a choice. what would you say to her? she loves my kids but i can't allow them to go to her home because it has become unsafe again. the only reason i let the older one visit her overnight is because i wanted to encourage her for putting out such a huge effort so that he could visit. my husband is fed up and said they are never allowed in her home no matter what because we found out that the red marks on my son were roach bites and she failed to warn me when i was bringing my infant son over that there would be such a mess again. anyway, i am just grasping at any hope i have of keeping a relationship with her, but it's hard to hear her talk about how we should all understand and pity her pain when she put me in a similar and in some ways more severe situation growing up, then expects me to send my children to what is basically a toilet. (not to mention the poor dogs who also have to live there) i don't think i am better than she is, i am a clutter bug myself. i deal with depression about my own issues. i have irrational feelings sometimes, difficulty dealing with things...but i recognize when my feelings aren't logical, and even if i get a little blue sometimes, i take care of my children. she doesn't feel that i have any problems because she wasn't my abuser and wasn't there to see any of it first hand..so she doesn't listen when i tell her i know how she feels. moreOpen Question: How much is my laptop worth?

Citizens for a No Kill Philadelphia (CNKP) holds lecture series at Drexel School of Law and Hector the Pit Bull (Vic’s former dog) was STAR A panel discussion was held last night at Drexel University's Earle Mack School of Law titled The Importance of Creating a Safe and Humane Society for all People and Animals. It was hosted by Citizens for a No Kill Philadelphia (CNKP) and Drexel's Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. The main point demonstrated by speaker Donald Cleary of the National Canine Research Council was "The dogs called pit bulls are just dogs." The star of the evening was by no doubt, Hector the Pit Bull, a rehabilitated former Michael Vick fighting dog rescued from Bad Newz Kennels by BAD RAP a San Francisco based rescue group and adopted by Clara and Andrew "Roo" Yori. Hector delighted attendees with his gentle nature, loving attitude, and grace under pressure (of public appearances) in spite of his numerous eternal scars from his former life. Certified by Therapy Dogs International, Hector has passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam (twice) and the temperament test of the American Temperament Test Society. He carries his own business cards in his vest wherever he goes and is free with giving affection and pets with any human nearby. His job is being a therapy dog and an ambassador for the pit bull breed. Hector has passed 10 tests to become a certified therapy dog. And no, Vick did not stop by to see how Hector is doing. Cleary went on to point out that the words pit bull and dog are not used interchangeably; arguing they should be he clarified Dr. Randall Lockwood's position that dogs cannot be characterized without humans. He also defined the difference between family dogs and resident dogs. The former being a companion animal who is treated as part of a family, living indoors, cared for and loved with the latter being dogs used for guarding or protection, often chained and kept outside with little, if any human interaction. Cleary also noted negative impressions about pit bulls have been perpetuated by the media and used the examples of two dog bite incidents. One, a fatal dog bite of a six year old child by a non pit bull dog received only two published articles nationwide while a story about a minor pit bull bite incident received thousands of articles written about it. All speakers were in agreement it is important to bring to the public's attention the positive stories about pit bulls, like Hector's. Leigh Siegfried, certified pet dog trainer and owner of Opportunity Barks, a Jenkintown based company, spoke about canine aggression and the fact it is situational. An example mentioned was highlighted in a picture shown of a pit bull chained to her whelping crate with an oversized sized chain and her nursing pups. Another was allowing a child (or adult) to try to engage an emaciated dog in interaction; this can be a recipe for disaster because a starving dog is much more likely to bite than want to play. She stressed it is people that need to control dogs citing the importance of training and the ongoing impact of a loving owner upon a dog. Opportunity Barks also holds classes in Philadelphia. Next was Elise Van Kavage, Esq., Senior Legislative Attorney with Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. VanKavage explained breed specific legislation (BSL) is in fact discrimination and called for legislation outlawing the practice. Pennsylvania is one of only two states that does outlaw BSL practice, thereby preventing townships and other local governments from enacting BSL. She dispelled the myth of a dog bite epidemic and quoted statistics showing a fourfold decrease in reported dog bites from the 1970's to present time. Moderator Stacy Coleman of the Animal Farm Foundation in New York stressed the importance of communities coming together to be the voice of the voiceless and reminded everyone to be respectful of each other's opinions and points of view when dealing with BSL. CNKP's Garrett Elwood introduced some local animal advocates including Dierdre Franklin of Pinups for Pitbulls, Allison Lamond from PAWS, Christina Voigt from ACCT, Claire Tillman, Humane Education Coordinator at CNKP and Alanna Burke from Saving Temple's Cats. Many attendees were able to pose for photos with Hector and Roo Yori. Questions from attendees were answered and participation was interactive. It was clear that those in attendance were dedicated animal advocates who want to make a difference in Philadelphia. I recently got certified with my SFA and CPR-C, so they gave me this little business card size paper saying that I'm certified and such. It also says that "any alterations void this card" I have to keep with on me for the next 3 years so I don't want something silly like rain or dirt to damage it. Would it me considered altering a card if I got it laminated. Really I'm just going to put packing tape over it because I don't want to pay for lamination and just need it to be waterproof.I know that you can't laminate a birth certificate in Canada unless it was already laminated when issued to the person, so in that case it's considered altering even though you have to keep that for the rest of your life. moreVoting Question: Which out of these three laptops/computers is best for World of warcraft?

(AP) WASHINGTON - Labor’s high hopes for major gains under President Barack Obama and a Democratic Congress have dimmed, raising fresh doubts about union leverage even in the best of political times. Prospects for a health overhaul have faded. Even slimmer are the chances of achieving labor’s chief goal, passage of a bill making it easier for unions to organize workers. A bipartisan jobs bill passed this week by the Senate drew tepid praise from the AFL-CIO president, Richard Trumka, who called it a "Band-Aid on an amputated limb" _ far short of what unions wanted. This wasn’t what unions expected a year ago after spending more than $400 million to help elect Obama and increase the size of Democratic majorities in the Senate and House. Leaders of labor’s largest federation will try to figure out how to refocus their political agenda when they begin their annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., on Monday. Another setback came in January when two Senate Democrats joined Republicans in blocking the appointment of labor lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker has worked for the AFL-CIO and Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Republicans have said they fear Becker would push the board to require companies to recognize unions if they can get a simple majority of employees to sign union cards _ the same "card check" measure that’s stalled in Congress. Labor leaders were counting on Obama put Becker in the post when Congress was out of session. They were disappointed when Obama said he wouldn’t do it anytime soon. "Enough is enough," Trumka said in an e-mail to labor activists. He urged union members to call the White House and "demand that President Obama fight Republican obstructionism" on Becker’s nomination. Some labor experts say unions have come up flat in mounting an effective liberal response to "tea party" activists who helped Republican Scott Brown win the special Senate election in Washington to succeed Democrat Edward M. Kennedy, who died last year. An AFL-CIO poll showed that 49 percent of union households supported Brown. "There’s been no indication that there’s muscle behind their money," said Leon Fink, a labor historian at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "There was no equivalent mobilization for public works or for a progressive health care measure." Even more troubling for unions, their membership in the private sector fell 10 percent during Obama’s first year in office to a historic low of 7.2 percent. My friend from primary school is going to be 22 at the end of this month. She works full time at a betting shop and pays for all her own bills (her internet and her mobile phone bill). She lives with her mum but has helped out with big financial things (such as paying for new sofas in the living room). However, her mother has no respect for her whatsoever. She is the oldest out of three (a brother, 20, who was in my class at school, and a sister who is 16). The brother has two daughters and moved out ages ago. The sister is bright (she gained seven A*-C grades at GCSE even though she didn't really like school that much) but is very easily distracted and basically does what she wants. Their mother is so strict with the eldest daughter but doesn't say anything to the rest of her kids. Every boyfriend she has gets insulted and banned from the house, she's been slapped several times over smoking (irresponsible habit it may be, but it is her habit and she never smokes in the house). She grounds the younger girl but then makes it my friend's responsibility to keep her in the house, which is an impossible task as the sister doesn't care about getting into trouble. This causes her mother to take everything out on my friend. The other week, for example, her sister was grounded and was only allowed out on the condition that my friend accompanied her. She went to her boyfriend's house, but because he didn't want my friend to come in, she had to sit at a bus stop for two hours. The alternative would have been the sister leaving anyway, and their mother finding out that they weren't together and letting rip on my friend. At one point, the mum took her debit card from her and refused to give it back for several months, even though she isn't irresponsible with her money (and let's not forget, she earned it!). Her sister has a habit of going into her room and helping herself to her things, so when she finally put a lock on her door last year after years of complaining, her mum took the spare key off her promising not to let the sister have it, only to give it to her a couple of days later. My friend has no self esteem whatsoever. She booked time off a little while back and spent the last four days of it locked in her room after an argument with her mum to "stay out of her way" even though she hardly ever gets time off at all. I'm always there for her and willing to listen to her problems, and I've suggested moving out but it seems like she only wants to move out with me. To be fair, I had my own flat for a while with my boyfriend last year and am kind of over the whole moving-out thing until I get back on my feet, but when she talks about it I feel guilty telling her this because she's so depressed and unwilling to move out on her own. She's felt even worse about herself in recent years because she broke her leg so badly about two years ago that she had to have pins put in. She was once a very active girl who was capable of running two miles every day with no trouble, and at 5 ft 8 was a size 10-12. Since the accident, her weight has increased dramatically to a size 20 and she no longer sees herself as attractive and always tries to hide away. She's such a lovely person and is really soft-hearted, so a lot of people have taken her for granted, including family members and every boyfriend she has. I am the type of person who is very protective and defensive of her friends, so it's hard for me to listen to this happening to her when she doesn't deserve it at all! However, I know it's not my business to fix. I can't wade in there and rescue her because she is a grown woman who is older than me even. I've offered a lot of support and have tried to help as much as possible without interfering, but I don't know if what I'm doing is enough. I need advice to give to her that may help. Lingerie, especially if you don't know my size or if I'm not 100% happy with my body as are most women in America (stretch marks, flab, cellulite). 3. Cheap gift baskets with cheap Chinese made soaps, lotions, body sprays, bath salts, bubble bath, etc. That nasty stuff just makes my skin itch and makes me smell bad. If you're going to get me something to put on my body, make sure it comes from a nice, local business that makes organic products or products that actually will make my skin glow for a change. Something that women's magazines tell me is good for my body or something I can instantly tell is classy. 4. Cheap perfume. Do you see a pattern with the cheap stuff here? I don't want to smell like an old lady that picked up something at a 99 cents store to cover up her body odor. 5. Dinner at a really crowded restaurant when you haven't even made the reservation. Even if you did, I'm not waiting in line for half an hour or longer to get a seat at a place so busy it'll take forever to get the menu to begin ordering the food. And you know Valentine's evening at that one place you've been wanting to take me to will be crowded with hungry couples. 6. A store bought card with a personal note only a sentence or two long written by you and signed at the last minute. I'd rather you wrote me a song or a heart felt letter, and if you can't sing or can't write, at least try to compose a simple rhyming poem. Most kids in elementary school can do at least that. 7. Red roses. Many women may disagree here, but I think wildflowers from your backyard or a bouquet of locally grown, brightly colored flowers will do laborers and the environment more good. Plus, it's unique. However, now that I think about it, there's nothing really wrong with long stemmed red roses. They really are gorgeous. 8. Sex if I'm on my period and have really bad cramps or if for any reason, I'm not up to it. And there are many reasons why women would deny sex to their partners. 9. I'm looking for a print template that can help me print multiple cards on a sheet. I go to printworks.com for a print template for the card sheets I'm using. I'm using an image size of height:2in x width:3.5in for my card image, which is the card size. And I'm using resolution 72. But the image gets cut off when I paste it in one of the entries. So, I'm wondering if there's actually someone who knows how to actually do this properly because I wish I could find out how.I think I was having problems because of a different version of Word. I'm now on a different computer and it actually fits inside an entry. 300 resolution works as well now. I was using 72 previously to try to make it fit and doesn't get cut off too much. Now it's not getting cut off, but the image still doesn't fit properly within the area. Can't get it centered, and the size of the image is smaller than the entry size. I'm using the card size dimensions, and I would of thought it should fit perfectly, but it doesn't. first year together, bought him a nice watch he'd been looking at, and beautiful bracelates for his daughters for their bdays... my birthday, we were broke, he took me for dinner and that was it.. no big deal... christmas, gave me a gift certifcate to get my hair done - that was nice, but i got it a week before xmas.... didnt even get to spend xmas with him cause his family didnt like me and he had his kids, so he spent it with his family... new years eve, had our first stupid fight, still went to nyc and had a great time... huge fight on valentines day, didnt get to make my nice dinner... whole day ruined... his birthday comes in march - still not much money, took him to lunch with my parents, got him a cake and a little present he had wanted, they played happy bday over the speakers at the restaurant.. it was cute... our one year anniversary, went to dinner at a nice restaurant, had a fight on the way home, went to bed angry... he goes to italy with kids for 2 weeks w/o me, i stay and watch his families business and get paid all of $8/ hour to be there... still no big deal... he comes home, still help him watch his families buisiness while his parents are away, get paid even less cause he';s making the paycheck now, and giving me a little - though i dont work all that much - so its no big deal... he's trying to open a business for us with his dad, tells me not to worry about getting a job - ok.... dad falls through, decides not to open business, i'm unemployed till april the following year... my bday, get a sweatshirt and sneakers i had wanted, not wrapped, given to me the night before.... xmas, got him a huge remote control car he'd been looking at.. thoguht it was fun... i got a book (actually wrapped) and a certificate to target... his parents like me now, so xmas eve i get to spend with them, most of xmas day, then he saysd to me "do we have to go to your families?" cause he's havcing a good time at his house... we go to my sisters, most of my family is gone by then... his brother comes over from italy, valentines day, a week after he'd been here, we were supposed to go eat, me him and the kids, he calls me and tells me his dad wants to go out just them andhis brother, and i dont get to go.. i get 3 roses, and im mad the rest of the day.. he apologizes... his bday., i still dont have a job, but managed to save enough money to get him cirque du soliel tix for the 4 of us that he had been wanting for months... fought with me the whole drive and then said he was sorry and its the best present anyone has ever gotten him... i dont remember our 2 year anniversary this year... he goes to italy again, this time for 3 weeks with his kids, while i stay home, work and watch his house... he wouldnt have gone if his dad didnt buy him the tix, but apparently i am still not family enough to be a part of it... my bday, get nothing, not a card, not a flower.. nothing more than a happy bday... he didnt come to lunch with my mom, sister, best friend nd his kids with me, and got nothing special for dinner that night either.. it was almost just another day... his 6 year olds bday, put on a huge party, my sister comes and does some zumba kids for the kids, loads of parents, spent a lot of $$... he gets a huge settle ment... he buys loads of equipment for a business he wants to start this year... still, no issues... xmas comes, he spends tons of $$ onthe kids, gives his ex wifes best friend $100 for their kids cause her husband just lost his job, i get him a beautiful watch and the coffee maker he's wanted, i get 2 pairs of PJs, size small and medium, both not my type, one not my size, no reciept, no tags, cannot be exchanged, and a jacket i had wanted, 3 sizes too big... also cant be exchanged... he spent more $$ on the ex wifes friend than me... wants to know what we're doing for new years, got invited by his frineds gf, whom i dont really like... dont really wanna go, but dont have anything else to do... he was like, "well, we spend xmas with your family..." im like, what does that have to do with anything... i loved him so much, but am feeling really disappointed, and sad.. i said last night, "i wanna get my nails done and go get my zumba 2 certification in feb... Dr Williams reports at the Town Hall web magazine: Detroit's (predominantly black) public schools are the worst in the nation and it takes some doing to be worse than Washington, D.C. Only 3 percent of Detroit's fourth-graders scored proficient on the most recent National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) test, sometimes called "The Nation's Report Card." Twenty-eight percent scored basic and 69 percent below basic. "Below basic" is the NAEP category when students are unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at their grade level. It's the same story for Detroit's eighth-graders. Four percent scored proficient, 18 percent basic and 77 percent below basic. Michael Casserly, executive director of the D.C.-based Council on Great City Schools, in an article appearing in Crain's Detroit Business, (12/8/09) titled, "Detroit's Public Schools Post Worst Scores on Record in National Assessment," said, "There is no jurisdiction of any kind, at any level, at any time in the 30-year history of NAEP that has ever registered such low numbers." The academic performance of black students in other large cities such as Philadelphia, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles is not much better than Detroit and Washington. What's to be done about this tragic state of black education? The education establishment and politicians tell us that we need to spend more for higher teacher pay and smaller class size. The fact of business is higher teacher salaries and smaller class sizes mean little or nothing in terms of academic achievement. Washington, D.C., for example spends over $15,000 per student, has class sizes smaller than the nation's average, and with an average annual salary of $61,195, its teachers are the most highly paid in the nation. What about role models? Standard psychobabble asserts a positive relationship between the race of teachers and administrators and student performance. That's nonsense. Black academic performance is the worst in the very cities where large percentages of teachers and administrators are black, and often the school superintendent is black, the mayor is black, most of the city council is black and very often the chief of police is black. Black people have accepted hare-brained ideas that have made large percentages of black youngsters virtually useless in an increasingly technological economy. This destruction will continue until the day comes when black people are willing to turn their backs on liberals and the education establishment's agenda and confront issues that are both embarrassing and uncomfortable. To a lesser extent, this also applies to whites because the educational performance of many white kids is nothing to write home about; it's just not the disaster that black education is. Many black students are alien and hostile to the education process. They have parents with little interest in their education. These students not only sabotage the education process, but make schools unsafe as well. These students should not be permitted to destroy the education chances of others. They should be removed or those students who want to learn should be provided with a mechanism to go to another school. Another issue deemed too delicate to discuss is the overall quality of people teaching our children. Students who have chosen education as their major have the lowest SAT scores of any other major. Students who have an education degree earn lower scores than any other major on graduate school admission tests such as the GRE, MCAT or LSAT. Schools of education, either graduate or undergraduate, represent the academic slums of most any university. They are home to the least able students and professors. Schools of education should be shut down. Yet another issue is the academic fraud committed by teachers and administrators. After all, what is it when a student is granted a diploma certifying a 12th grade level of achievement when in fact he can't perform at the sixth- or seventh-grade level? Prospects for improvement in black education are not likely given the cozy relationship between black politicians, civil rights organizations and teacher unions.I subbed for two years, one in a suburban district about 90% White and one in an urban district about 60% Black, 25% White and the rest Asian and Hispanic. I had to deal with bad behavior in both districts, but in the urban district it was a constant. A classroom with even a little disruption is hard to learn in. The biggest problem was girls without Dads, and that was because I am an alpha type male. Only in one primary school in the urban district did the Principal encourage and enforce self-discipline in the students. That school worked. Another similar school where the Principal and teachers focused on constantly quite classrooms -- encouraging only classroom (group) behavior -- did not work. You have to be able to remove the "popcorn" -- the kids who have little ability for self-control, and allow for the remainder of the class to discuss things in good order, to have a constant low-level of discussion in order to learn. Constant silence is not education.typo: "quite" meant quiet. I preached a class management doctrine called "quietude" which is not silence, it is a low murmur of almost constant discussion, but peaceful and on topic. It does require that those students who cannot speak quietly be removed to another place. That can be a study hall or a special class for learning quietude, self-discipline. My degree is in Physics.G-d invented money as a tool for spiritual improvement. We all have to work for money, and be thankful for the opportunity and the chance to profit, or just to pay the bills. But if we work "for the money" we never have enough. If we work to be better persons -- and accept the hard work and constant self-challenge that means -- we do become rich. However to have respect for making a profit, honestly, is a spiritual goal to keep and mind. To accept "just getting by" may mean we are not attempting to become better persons by reaching for more difficult challenges. Still, once the bills are paid -- a job is it's own reward, and never stay in a job that is badly damaging you -- spiritually, physically. Look for a job that you enjoy! I am building my very first website using the Website Tonight program that Go Daddy offers, and I would like to copy a header I've seen on another site powered by Go Daddy. This website uses the same template as mine, so I know it's possible, I just don't know how to recreate it. I would just like to put my own logo on a new image and split it up into two sizes. My main points of frustration are: 1.) How do I get a logo or business name "onto" the image? The Website Tonight program does not allow a single image to be used for the header, but instead requires that the left and right images each be 404 pixels X 184 pixels. Anyone know anything about GUI mishaps? All my skills on my hot bar are invisible and the startup screen for WoW is missing some buttons. I own a moderate sized house, with some land, tax value of $290K, mortgage of $140K left on it, but also have a home equity loan of $75K, and credit card balances exceeding $80K. My spouse works, bringing in $45K a year, I have my own business, but its seasonal and the past couple of years, sales have been really down, so I have not been taking a salary, just reimbursing myself for expenses paid by me personally. I have thought of taking a second job, during this slow time, but with jobs so hard to come by, I'm not optimistic I'll be able to. Anyway, I'm thinking of talking to my bank with the mortgage to see if they can help me with some sort of financing, do you think I'll be able to get anything, showing as little income as I do? I do have one credit card with more left on the credit limit, offering appx. $10K at a 4% rate for 9 months, that can likely get me through my seasonal slow time, but my spouse doesn't want to go that route. I've been trying to print out business cards with my canon i560s but the images on the cards are all over the place (they aren't staying within the precut grid lines). I made sure I have the appropriate paper selected in the options, the correct size and everything, just the image on the entire sheet is slanted. I've tried to align the printer (using the option in the maintenance menu) as well and that hasn't done anything to improve the situation. I have built a website for a client with a dry cleaning business, who now wants to accept payments online. Because of the nature of the business, I can't set it up like an online store with a shopping cart...he simply needs the customer's credit card information to keep on file, so he can charge them automatically every time service is rendered. I suggested PayPal's email billing, but the size of his customer base makes this impractical. I've been doing extensive research trying to find a solution, on databases, merchant accounts, php, etc., but nothing seems to fit my needs exactly. Besides, I'm much more of a designer than a programmer, and am feeling really out of my depth. I need something a little more idiot's delight, if you know what I mean. :) So my question is this: is there any way to accept and transmit credit card information which is simple enough that someone like me can set up, is easy for my client to access, and is, above all, secure? If this is impossible, as I have begun to suspect, what sort of company can I do this through? Is it a merchant account I need? Does anyone have any alternative solutions for me? My boyfriend and I in our midtwenties and planning to marry in about 2 years time. We live in Jakarta, Indonesia. Because of the pollution here, I've been having health problems. I've lived in medium-sized major cities in the US, Australia, and Europe, and have always been a healthy girl. But since living in Jakarta I've been suffering frequent colds, perpetual headaches, and very low stamina, especially on and around my period. It may be anemia but I haven't checked because I don't really trust the doctors here. My boyfriend--a young lawyer by profession--has been a globetrotter like me, and has expressed interest in living elsewhere, although we haven't really started any serious planning. He was born in Switzerland, but as the son of an Indonesian embassy employee dual citizenship was prohibited so his ID card states Jakarta as his birthplace instead of Geneva. He graduated both his bachelors and masters in law from The Netherlands, whose laws are the basis of Indonesian law. Likewise, Dutch law is concordant with French law and the law of other countries based on Ancient Roman law. He specialises in corporate and business law, and has worked in Holland as well as Indonesia. I have a Canadian permanent residence, which my family and I have earned through legal procedures that started when I was still a minor. I have never lived there. My parents and I visited Canada in 2007 to activate the permit (I was 22), but we are required to reenter in 5 years time ie 2012 (I will be 27). In 2011 I expect to graduate with a bachelors in performing arts communication and in 2012 a masters in journalism or broadcasting. Over the past 3 years I have worked on and off as translator/interpreter, master of ceremony (hosting small concerts and seminars), and hosting a radio talk show. Recently I've decided to cross over to brand management/advertising as a copywriter, hoping that it would land me a fun but challenging job supporting quirky creative professionals like graphic designers, professional photographers, product developers, and others in charge of advertising/brand development campaigns. I plan to join campus clubs to start my portfolio and hope that it would land me with internships or projects elsewhere so I would at least have some experience by the time I migrate. In the future I'd prefer to work on a freelance basis, in case my would-be-husband might get transferred frequently, plus I would like my time to be relatively flexible so we can raise a family. OK, so in short my boyfriend has ties with Europe and I have ties with Canada. Once married, we want to migrate together somewhere (not necessarily Canada or Switzerland although those are the more obvious options for now). I do NOT prefer EU countries, although I'm not totally against it either. We need to prepare how we're going to live overseas and still be able to thrive in our professions. The way I have seen others do this is by joining a multinational company that happens to have an office in Jakarta, then climb the corporate ladder to get transferred elsewhere... how would this work out for a lawyer?
