Resolved Question: What does this mean? 10pts.?

Believe it or not, the federal bailout is not the only thing on Congressional leaders' minds these days. Over the past several months, lawmakers and the Federal Reserve have been moving toward new regulations targeting the credit card industry. Just last week, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to pass the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights, which was drafted to mirror regulations the Federal Reserve is planning to announce this fall. The Fed rules, while binding for credit card issuers, are more easily undone than law -- hence the parallel proposals, explains Linda Sherry, a spokeswoman for Consumer Action, a consumer advocate. The Senate is not expected to review the bill until after any new Fed rules take effect January 1. It's extremely unlikely they could (or would) weaken the standing regulations, she says. The regulations are tremendously good news for cardholders. Consumer advocates hail talk of eliminating predatory lending practices like retroactively applying interest rate hikes to balances, and implementing new requirements such as a 45-day notice before raising interest rates. Not surprisingly, the credit card industry is balking at the proposed new rules. Among other things, card issuers note that because of the greater restrictions, they will no longer be able to afford to offer the enticing teaser rates used to lure customers in. "It could wipe out all these 0% financing offers overnight," says Curtis Arnold, founder of CardRatings.com. It's already slim pickings. The number of mailed solicitations credit card issuers sent dropped 14% during the second quarter of 2008, according to market researcher Mintel Comperemedia. "They're going to focus more than ever on their profitable customers," says Scott Bilker, founder of DebtSmart.com. While any new regulations on the credit card industry may cut promotional offers in the short-term, expect a bounce back -- or other good deals -- as companies get used to the rules. "There was a life before 0% financing offers, and there will be a life after," says Gerri Detweiler, credit advisor for Credit.com. "These companies want your business and they want to make money." Still, now is a good time to lock in a 0% rate -- assuming you qualify. "If you have good credit, the doors are still open to you," says Bilker. Those with a less-than-stellar score may receive offers for shorter promotional periods, or less favorable ongoing rates.  more

Resolved Question: I have't filed income tax in 10 years. I want to come clean. CPA help needed to untangle this?

I am sure I won't solve this here, but I would like to have some leads to get myself organized. I do want to solve this and just want to be a regular citizen with the tax up to date. I will mention the same as another member did: "I KNOW I'M SUPPOSED TO FILE EVEN THOUGH I DON'T OWE, BUT I'VE ALREADY ADMITTED THAT I HAVEN'T SO WE DON'T NEED TO ADDRESS THAT ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR FOCUSING ON THE QUESTION I'M ASKING RATHER THAN TELLING ME SOMETHING I CAN NO LONGER DO ANYTHING ABOUT." It is somewhat complex: 1- I have not filed tax since 1999, although I estimated (at the time) and saved what I thought would be the tax. 2- 1999 to 2001 I started to play "entrepreneur" as everyone was doing when the Internet came about, selling junk on the Internet privately. money was exchanged back and forth without any actual control The IRS sent me a letter to pay taxes not filed for a student loan that I cashed(2001). The total still is unpaid. I am guessing this is because the bank reported to the IRS, yet only the loan was mentioned. 3- I had a job that issued me a W2 form 1999-2001 "self employed" , in 2000 I started paying free lancers to do the work I did, I wanted to keep the job in case the business did not do well, however these free lancers were not regular workers, I never issued any I-90 or anything that would help me to track any of these payments, except the employer being my witness I have only dates amount and first name of the freelancers, no other proof. Unlikely I can track down must of these people All payments were cash. The only ones I was able to track down were unwilling to provide personal information for I-90, yet they only make up 20% of the total. Is this case lost? Do I have to pay tax on what I kept? 4- Mid 2001 I incorporated had a tax payer ID issued by the IRS, that's where the major mass began. I mixed personal banking account, personal phone line and credit card to pay suppliers with business. Although I was able to separate accurately all the personal expenses and even the % that was business versus personal. I am not sure how to separate the business. Since I incorporate the business mid 2001 and I was already playing business man since 1999...I am unsure how to go about it. Do I have to separate them? But I have invested money on equipment prior and after incorporation to be used for business purpose, same for goods bought for sale. 5- From 2000-2001 I had an ex girlfriend taking care of all the paper for me. She was being paid to enter itemize every single item. In the end she took the money but did not do the job, actually the opposite, she only mixed up all the papers (receipt, bank statements etc) into a huge mess stuck in boxes, which took me one month to put in order again. It is not clear if the company made any profit or not, unlikely it did 6- Late 2003 early 2004 a live in girlfriend, took over the function of organizing all the papers, things were going really well, all papers had been organized, everything was being entered to a spreadsheet in the minimum details, till I found out that instead paying the bills she was pocketing the money, overnight she took her things and all the computer files, so months of work went back to the "starting line" again. Without the money to pay the bills the business could not survive, I still tried to save it by taking money from credit cards to cover holes, but eventually I ran out of Credit cards. After all these I could never put myself together again, I started drinking which I had never done, stopped paying all the bills, my credit rating was excellent went below miserable. I did not make any significant money from 2004 - 2007, if I did make any it was cash and way to low, I borrowed money from friends and family which eventually I will have to pay. -----State tax was collected for some of the sales, yet without the information that was stored in the Hard drive of the computer that was stolen by my ex I am unable to have accurate information. Not all sales were taxed as the majority was sent to out of the state. It is useless to ty to track her down as she moved to another country and has been bouncing from country to country, and I know this information was purposely destroyed. I was living in a room and board such a situation, I did not have to pay for living expenses. 7- Is borrowed money considered a taxable income? 8- My mother helped me from 2004-2007, although I am a full grown adult and I was not living with here, am I able to claim I was a dependent during these years? although she did not file me as a dependent. I did make less than $3k a year. This tax mess was never cleared, but this year I took care of the depression and stopped hiding behind alcohol. I am here to face the cosnequences. I am working on the paper work, yet I am not sure how to address these problems. 9 - I know I will need a CPA to straight this out and I am planning to do it. Any CPA out there can guesstimate what this would cost? I will borrow this money to pay an expert. 10- Let's presume that the IRS and the State will negotiate any amount I may have to pay, also the fact I am not employed at the moment, how likely is it that the amount can be negotiated to a realistic value that I can pay? Thank you very much  more

Resolved Question: Am I back lol?

Well, yes and no, I fell off the garage roof trying to fix some shingles and cracked some ribs, they kept me overnight because I could not breath (Asthma), good thing they did, they found out I have a tipped uterus and they also removed my ovaries, I also found out that my right breast is higher than my left. So I will be going back there so much that I asked for my own time card! Seriously though, ribs do hurt a lot, and I want to thank everyone from my heart for all the very nice comments/concerns. I was very touched. NOW back to business lol...... A man joins a Tibetan temple. He takes a vow of silence but is allowed to say two words every year. After an arduous 12 months of eating rice, sleeping on a wooden bed with a raggedy blanket, and working 14-hour days in the field, the man goes to the head monk and says, “More blankets.” Another year passes, and he visits the head monk and says, “More food.” The man goes through one more year eating good meals and sleeping well, but he’s drained by the long days of work. He calls on the head monk and uses his two words to say, “I’m leaving.” “Good,” the head monk replies. “You’ve done nothing but bitch since you got here.”  more

Resolved Question: What do I do now, I am in love with him...?

My bf went out of town on business trip & ended up staying adtnl night w/out calling me. The next day when he called, I said thanks for letting me know your ok and I hung up on him (very immature I know). I was full of hurt and anger. I then typed a letter & put in his mailbox telling him that I trusted him and thought he was a man of his word, but that my gut tells me he is not. I also left a promissory note for him to sign on money I had loaned him months back. He did not call or anything. 6 days later I texted "do u wanna talk"? He replied "tmrw night", I replied "Im busy then"..then I went to his house as I needed closure, I told him that I dont trust him as I know he was with someone else when he stayed overnight. He said nothing! I was so hurt and said hurtful things to him, looking back I wish I had not. Well, our 1 yr anniversary was 12/22 & he didnt call, no call on Xmas. I left his gifts at his door & gave him a thoughtful card ask'g 4 forgiveness. He hasnt called? What to do?  more

Resolved Question: Where can I make/design professional quality business cards?

I've been on VistaPrints, PrintsMadeEasy, Overnight Prints, 123prints, Kinkos, etc etc etc. Their designs are all so hokey for the category I am in (beauty/makeup). I want a simple card: white, textured cardstock, raised lettering in green and black inks. Maybe an elegant black border around the card. I know it is possible, but I don't know where to look or go! The one site I found that did plain cards like that did not have green ink. The green is very necessary. =) If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! Thanks in advance!  more

Resolved Question: What did I marry??

Highschool sweethearts and very much in love. We dated for 5 years and then got married. We have two young boys together. She gambled our credit cards to the max about 3 years ago and forced us into bankruptcy. Then last Nov. she left me for a school teacher at her work she works in the kitchen. We where strapped for money because we make payments for the bankruptcy so it was hard to have money to take her out places. Now her new lover is taking her everywhere lots of overnight trips. I know its none of my business what she does but it just is such a kick in the face for me. We share our boys every other week together and tonight I talked to her about her nephew coming over as I haven't seen him in about 2 years I told her goodnoight and she just hung up no bye or nothing. What did I marry????she was so sweet and so full of love and we had a nice family nothing unordinary. I'm moving on really good now as it was a shock but she knows I'm a nice guy and hurt.  more

Resolved Question: How many illegals want to become citizens, how many of them just want to become legal?

How many illegals want to become citizens, how many of them just want to become legal? It's important to know, and it's the question nobody asks about illegal immigration. How many of them want to become citizens versus just want to become legal? Senator Kennedy, you're the expert on immigration. Perhaps you could tell us? Senator McCain, you know more about the issue than F-ing anyone else. Maybe you could tell us. How many illegals want to become citizens and how many just want to become legal? And, by the way, round numbers. We don't have to make this that specific. I'll tell you why I ask this, because it shows there are quite a few questions we should ask and quite a few answers we should have before we dive headlong into what they are calling immigration reform. And, by the way, I said dive headlong rather than rush headlong because I don't want my name to become an issue in this, folks. I know it's rush headlong. I put dive, keep me out of this. How many illegals want to become legal? We don't know the breakdown so let's use the wisdom of Solomon. Let's split the illegals in half. Let's say half of them want to become citizens and half want to become only legal. What does this new bipartisan bill propose? Well, it proposes a new ID card, the Z visa. It makes illegals legal overnight, something that very few people are talking about. The $5,000 fine, that's only applicable if the illegals seek citizenship. But if they don't seek citizenship there's no $5,000 fine, there's no heading back to the home country to get back in line. So if this bill becomes law as written, yesterday illegal, today legal, shazam. There's no so-called road to citizenship here, no alleged eight- to 13-year wait, there's no steep fine, whether it's 5,000 or $500 does not affect them. There's no touchback, meaning heading to the back of the line. There is no line because they're legal! I know I've been making this point for the past week, but I wanted to illustrate it in this fashion. What does citizenship mean? Citizenship is irrelevant to this. While the Drive-By Media focused on a distracting debate -- is it amnesty or is not amnesty, is it anti-immigration or is it xenophobia -- the reality is that all illegals become legal whether they opt for citizenship or not. The question we have to ask now, do Senator Kennedy and Senator McCain know this? Was Senator Kennedy wrong for the ninth time in 42 years on this issue? Yet he's held up as the elite expert, the lion who's making sure his final days are being put to the best use possible, for the goodness of America. He's been wrong on this nine times. Was Senator McCain outfoxed like he was with campaign finance reform? Now, if you are for this alleged reform, the least you could do to make your case is to say that these uneducated, unskilled illegals are one heck of a lot smarter than some of our best and brightest senators. Maybe our guys should jump the border, pick up some street smarts on the other side, and then come back. Who's outfoxing who here? You might be saying, "Well, Rush, what's it matter? What's the big deal, path to citizenship?" Well, path to citizenship means that you want to become an American. It means that you're interested in assimilating in the great American culture, becoming part of it and expanding it, passing it on to your own family, your kids and so forth. If you just want to become legal, then there's no assimilation, there's no desire to, quote, unquote, become Americans, be here legal so you don't have the sigma of being illegal. This whole business of the rule of law, people are trying to pooh-pooh this illegal -- ah, the Drive-Bys and the elites, politicians are all saying, "We're not going to deport 12 million people, gotta fix this somehow. Illegal, that's a bad way to look at it." No, it's not. No, it's not. When you grant 12, 20 million, whatever the number, a virtual exemption from American law in one regard, then you are just telling them that they're exempt from a number of other laws that they might break down the road, which Heather Mac Donald has documented to be taking place in Maywood, California, 96% Latino. Let me read this. George Will. I'll just read this to you again. "Affirming the rule of law is, however, where to begin because when a large and somewhat cohesive cohort succeeds in living in defiance of the law, the scofflaw spirit can have myriad manifestations. Writing in last summer's City Journal, Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute gave a sobering example: 'Protecting one form of lawbreaking may require protecting others as well. The city of Maywood in Los Angeles County declared itself a sanctuary zone for illegal aliens this year. Then it got rid of its drunk-driving checkpoints, because they were nabbing too many illegal aliens. Next, this 96 percent Latino city, almost half of whose adult population lacks a ninth-grade education, disbanded its police traffic division entirely, so that illegals wouldn't need to worry about having their cars towed for being unlicensed.'" So if you're going to say they're illegal and you're going to make 'em legal and you're doing this on the basis that these are God's people, these are salt of the earth people, these people the future of the American economy, well, if you've granted them legal status and they continue to break the law, you can't have that because at some point you may have to send them back. I mean, they've become felons. So you gotta exempt them from all other laws. In the meantime, other Americans are being held to these very laws that the Latinos are being exempt from here in Maywood, California, and a lot of other places. Drunk driving checkpoints disbanded, no police traffic division so they don't have to worry about their cars being towed for being unlicensed. Meanwhile, other people are being picked up and charged and put in jail for similar offenses. And you think that's going to go down? You think the American people are going to put up with that? If you think the fireworks on this are hot and heavy now -- and they are -- wait until if this thing actually gets signed into law, then you're going to see what a powder keg erupting nationwide looks like.  more
