Executive stress as cancellation of meetings leaves business undone
Education reforms, including decisions vital to the formation of the new Education and Skills authority are among more than 30 other items of business being delayed. Decisions were also thought to be imminent on water charges, the countryside planning policy PPS14 and the proposed replacement system for the 11-plus school transfer tests.

Back To Business
But while Obama may have been all business today, he took the opportunity on Sunday to evaluate last week's tour, defending himself against criticism that it was "audacious" of him to travel abroad in the middle of a general election campaign.
"I basically met with the same folks that John McCain met with after he won the nomination," he said, adding that the Arizona senator had also made trips to Mexico, Canada and Colombia "and nobody suggested that that was 'audacious.'"
"Now, I admit we did it really well," he went on to say. "But that shouldn't be a strike against me."
The foreign swing was an important one for the first-term senator, meant to burnish his foreign policy credentials and show American voters that he could hold his own on the world stage. more

Resolved Question: What are some good businesses to apply for their credit card at?
I am 18 and completely credit-less. My moms suggestion was opening a few store-based credit cards (such as Old Navy) and using them when I shop there and quickly paying them off. Where else can you suggest, besides Old Navy? :D BTW, no "regular" card places will approve me because of my age, I'd need a secured card. So i want to avoid that if possible. moreResolved Question: I thought I was hired and had the job, but now I'm not so sure. What should I do?
Okay, so I've been job hunting for around 4 months now, with little to no success. I applied to over 80 places, and Old Navy was one of them. I walked in to fill out an application, but they told me I had to do it online and handed me an Information card. I figured this meant it was a lost cause, because I didn't think the online hiring process provided hope for 16 year old's. Well about 2 months ago, I got a call from the manager. She said they were hiring for seasonal employees, and scheduled me an interview. I was highly anticipating this interview, but she called me a few hours before I was going to leave for it and told me something had come up and she couldn't do any that day, but that she would call me at the end of the week to reschedule. Well the end of the week came around and I still hadn't received any calls, so I called her. She told me they were having a budget meeting soon about how many employees they could hire and what not. She said after the meeting she would call me and let me know. Well she never called again, so I figured that meant I had lost my chance. But then a month later (last week) she called me again. She apologized for taking so long to get back to me, and scheduled another interview. I half-expected her to cancel on me again, but she didn't, so I prepared for it. The interview went well I thought, I had anticipated most of the questions she asked so most of the answers I gave were good and well-thought out. She seemed to really like me, and impressed when I had to run the dressing room, sale floor, and cash register for 5 minutes each. Business was slow, so she brought out the head manager and I had my second interview the same day. That one went well as well, and after it was over she shook my hand and told me they thought I would be good for the position (or something like that, my memory is so foggy because I was literally hyperventilating the whole day). She also told me that they had to wait for the background check to come back, which would take 24-48 hours, but when they got it they would call about when my training was and what not and to give me my schedule. Well it's been a week, and I haven't gotten any calls from them. I called Wednesday to check up on things, but she was in the middle of an interview. So I think I should just let it be. I guess when she's done with her interviews, she'll call the people she's picked (even though I thought I was for sure one). I feel really discouraged. Like everyone else, I am so exhausted from this economy, I may only be 16 but my bills are around $400 a month. If I don't get this job, I'm going to have to make tons of adjustments and give up a lot because this was my last hope, no one else will hire me. (mostly because I don't turn 17 until april). What are your opinions? Do you think I still might have a chance at Old Navy? **Note: They told me they were hiring 10 new people because they had to have 70 employees for this big project they're starting on. But I know a few people that work there and they just got laid off a few days ago...could this mean more positions and a bigger chance? Thank you so much for any advice you can offer!:) moreResolved Question: Career Change to Merchant Mariner at 36.. Doable?
I was in the Navy for a short time (long story, but honorable discharge) about 16 years ago and have always wanted to be on the ocean. I am now 36 and have been in the car business as a sales manager ever since. I have been recently found myself without a job and think this may be the only time in my life where the timing is right to do what I really love.. work on the ocean. I am prepared to start at the bottom as an Ordinary Seaman and am in the process of getting my TWIC card. First question.. do I need my MMC prior to applying for a job or is that only after my sea time is up and I apply for Able Seaman? Would I be more hireable if I got all my certifications up front? (SWTC, additional training etc). Are there any benefits to joining the SIU even though I am 300 miles away from the closest union hall? Any suggestions on where to start looking for employment? I live in Central Massachusetts so would be initially looking in the Boston/Gloucester/New Bedford area. Does anyone have any experience in this that I could draw on? Online or offline suggestions more than welcome! Oh, and considering my age, would a Maritime academy be a viable option, or even the Paul Hall Center in MD? Thank you so much in advance.. moreResolved Question: I applied for a credit card and it is currently under review...?
Last week I was denied when I applied for a student card from my bank, bofa. The reason was because I did not have enough credit references. Other reasons I'm guessing is because I haven't been with my part time job for longer than a year and I've had overdrafts (but I'm not in debt, I paid them off quickly). I was going to apply for their secured card but I've been reading that many people are being denied especially during these times. So I was unsure. Just tonight I applied for a credit card from Navy Federal Credit Union. I barely use my checking/savings account from them but I've never had an overdraft or anything. I didn't get approved right when I submitted my application. It is currently in "review in process" and it normally takes 3-5 business days for me to get an answer. My question is, do you think most likely I got denied? Usually people who get approved get approved right on the pot right? And since this is my second inquiry, if I get denied again, I will not apply for another card for another 5-6 months. I'm saying this because I know someone will say that inquiries hurt the credit score. If I get denied for this unsecured credit card, I will apply for the secured card next time. How can I boost up my chances of getting approved for a credit card? Final question.. I tried applying for a credit card from orchard bank but it did not process. It asks about where I work and the household income. I put my work and my individual income but I also put "live w/ parents". Could this be the reason why my application won't go through? All/any serious answers will be helpful. Thanks! PS: I'm an 18 year old student with a part time job. No credit history whatsoever. 2 inquiries so far. moreResolved Question: Which Credit Unions are the most generous at granting credit cards and loans?
I'm looking for Credit Unions that grant generous amount for loans, high credit limits credit cards, easiest to qualify for VS stricter criteria. Ex: Grants generous amount for loans, high credit limits credit cards, lenient criteria VS strict/conservative. I also just started a business this year and so I can only provide pay stubs (no 1040's / W2's yet), are there Credit Unions that will work with me and still grant me credit cards + loans with pay stubs / no docs? I have a great credit score and my history shows I can pay on time etc. I am hearing a lot of good things with Alliant CU, Navy Federal CU, USAA CU (Although I am not sure how generous NAVY and USAA are for non-military members..) Any others out there? moreResolved Question: My crush gave me his business card and on it it says Department Of the Navy. What does that mean?
Naval Criminal Investigate Service. And under the words it says His name, and under his name it says Special agent. What the heck is that? Thanks a bunch, Greenie8Oops sorry I didn't notice what topic I put that in.. moreResolved Question: How do you get ahold of someone famous when you met them before they were?
In May of 2005 I went to Fleet Week in New York when I was in the Navy. I went to CBGBs and the gallery right beside it and watched a show. A girl was playing that night and the crowd was rather small, Id say maybe 25 people and there was a rock concert going on downstairs. The girl was good looking so I stayed and watched, An older lady with her husband and daughter started talking to me. She told me it was her daughter playing on stage and asked how I liked her music. We had a few drinks, talked about where we both were from (WV). I later met up with the girl playing had a picture with her bought her a drink and hung out until I had to leave. Her mom gave me her business card and told me to call if I was ever in NY I had a place to stay. The girl playing gave me a kiss and I left. Here recently I was cleaning out my wallet and found that card, I never throw anything away i put in my wallet, and looked at the last name. The name was Germonatta. I typed it in Google to see what would come up or if they even still lived in NY. When the screen came up I couldnt believe that I had made out with Lady GAGA!! What would be the chances of getting ahold of her or her mother? moreResolved Question: Contacting someone famous who wasnt famous when we met?

My father recently opened me a Savings/Checking account for the Navy Federal Credit Unit (bank) and they said it would take 8 business days to receive my debit card. This was on June 18th, which is almost 3 weeks ago... and like 14 Business days. I have received many other things from them, but I have not received my card yet. Should I call them or keep waiting? I like really want my card :)... moreResolved Question: Can I obtain citizenship by serving in the Unites States armed forces? Navy, Air force, Army?
My parents came here legally from Europe in the middle 1990's with me(I was 5-6 years old), and my sister was born on the west coast. They came to escape the corruption, and to make a better life for themselves and me and my sister. They made their own business and have paid taxes and have done OK for themselves. I have attended U.S. schools from 1st grade-12th..graduated with an advanced diploma, and currently attend a private university(due to be a senior in the fall of 2009). I was accepted at several public universities, but could not attend those, so I pay over $23,000 a year for a private one. In essence, I am "undocumented" and I do not know my native born language more than basic conversational tongue..Anyways..In the late 1990's/early 2000's my parents business visa was ending(we had also applied for permanent residency), and somehow either our lawyer or paperwork got messed up, or wasn't answered in time/sent on time..Regardless we were never told to leave, or deport, or anything. While my parents and I don't have a right to work,(I can't even drive) having our own business has been OK so far...We even purchased american cars, and I believe have contributed for the good of the economy..We live in a good suburb, and are law abiding with no felonies or escaping taxes or anything...Last I went to apply for a driver's license they called to the state capitol and told me my situation is still pending...I am 20 years old, due to graduate a four year college(targeted for business/law) in a year, with no hope to gain employment or even a driver's license. True, I had hoped the DREAM ACT would have passed by now, but now I feel as if I have no future. I can't simply go back to my native country...I simply wouldn't survive and might even be persecuted. I know immigration is a tough issue with all the illegals(though I can't blame them, most of their lives are pure crap) and the debate of amnesty, and the hate of tax evaders or job stealers. But we haven't done any of that, and unfortunately there are many in my same situation. I have heard of my friend's father, who has been here for 50 years, and he has yet to get a green card...ANYWAYS.. my question is what are my options? I might be able to get married, but I'm young and have yet to find someone to love, and even then that's not a certainty(plus I don't believe a sham marriage is good for anyone). But I feel like my life so far is a waste, as I cannot do much after graduating..I would love to go into the Air Force, or Navy, or even the Army and serve America. To be able to finally be worth something and help out everyone along with my family I believe is a good goal right? I'm told to just wait for the laws to change by all the lawyers, but I've waited for over 14 years now..Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.. I'm sure I'll get some "illegal" haters, and people will believe I stole their hard earned tax money or somehow taken advantage of them, but honestly that's false.."Rather than read your long, long justification for what you've done I'll just give you the short answer... no." If my "justification for what I've done" is living and breathing and being raised in America, and consistently following the laws, and trying to work hard to achieve something others only dream of is wrong, then I must be the devil..... But having such ignorance isn't good for anyone. ...Wouldn't a country rather have law abiding immigrants(on which the country was made) who are willing to put their lives on the line for the good of the nation, rather than those who consistently break the law and sell drugs and the the small number beggars who have citizenship, but not the drive or work ethic of a mexican or italian or russian constantly working hard to make a good living for his family? moreResolved Question: Returned Headphones But They Didn't Swipe Card?
2 days ago, i returned some headphones at Best Buy that cost me $325.00. The lady that was doing the return told me that the money would be transferred back to my card that i used, and that my card is not needed. She did however, scanned the headphones and provided me with a receipt that showed that return transaction. Next business day, i checked my account online, and the $325.00 was not returned. My bank is Navy Federal Credit Union. Is it normal for a store not to swipe your card when you return something? Sorry, new to these credit/debit card things. Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Do i have legal rights? please read Marines/military members?
My friend and I went to the SMP (recreation center). This guy approaches us and tells us about his college program. He is a great "B"S"er and tells how his little CDs and book will help you for the CLEP test which is equal to a college class, but not all colleges accept CLEP tests. the program was $2500 to be paid in allotments, and i thought to myself why doesnt this program use the tuition assistance i have, but didnt put thought after that. Then he says a "free laptop for your education", i personally didnt care about the laptop, i just was just excited to get some college under my belt, and not fall behind my peers who are in college. So i started signing the papers. I asked once again am i paying for the laptop, and he said no you are paying for the books. im pretty sure the contract says otherwise though, I already knew it was a piece of sschit laptop thats $200. So i later realized through the Education Resource Center that it was a scam because military members should be getting their education free. This guys business card has numbers, i call them never picks up,i saw one of the guys involved in the scam his buddy, being pissed off, wanting to beat the shit out of him but played it off, ask him if i can return everything because "i couldnt afford it" due to my credit debt, car, and tv i just purchased" and he asked me stuff like is the computer open and i said yes, then i pleaded that i do not want to cause problems with your company, then he said he'll try to do something about it. I asked this guy if i payed for laptop or books and he said laptops and books were free, and i asked him for a reliable number, and he gives it to me, in the next 2 days i contact him and theres a message "this is military laptop financing serving our military members" then it goes on to ring but doesnt pick up. That got me even more angry because it said nothing about the college info i was given, it was just straight up "military laptop financing" paying $2500 for a $200 laptop. These guys are usually here 2-3 times a week so I'm gonna play it off still to see if i get something, because i told him i cannot afford and he said he'll do something about it, maybe even a deal at least even though i will still be getting ripped off. I was thinking this was a legit program because it was in the Rec Center and the workers had not kicked them out or anything. Its a scam, and my other 2 friends signed up for it too. The guy i dealt business with is a fraud, "former Navy" "BBB" logo, and always voice mail for his cell phone, his business telephone and fax dont exist, but like i said i met up with his buddy and hopefully he should be here tomorrow and hopefully pick up his stupid "military financing phone" because i made sure it worked and his phone rang. Theyre usually here 2-3 times a week. So once everything is settled wether i get something back or not ill let these guys have it and make a scene in the rec center. Authorities know and i guess they didnt do anything about it, so they should be here tomorrow or monday. Boot move i know, i learned, and please i learned my lesson, i dont want to hear negative things, in comes my question, make your case of what you read from my story. do i have legal rights? could it be fraud? please and thank you. moreVoting Question: What should I do, I owe this college $5,000...?
I owe the college $5,000 and I can't get my transcripts until it's under $1,000. I am unemployed, so I can't really work to get it myself. My parents wont give me the money or help me pay it off. I used to get money from Sallie Mae, but they don't pay for balances from previous semesters, they only pay for upcoming semesters. My credit isn't that great, but I only have a little credit to begin with. I've only had an Old Navy card, College bills and hospital bills. That's where my credit it. I am trying to open a small business. Do you think anyone would give me a loan and I have bad credit and I could put some toward my college debt? My account amount was around 700.00 dollars, and I always pay more then they ask me too. I got a letter about 2 or 3 months ago, saying they were going to change my limit lower. WitchI dont understand why? Then about 2 weeks ago . I got anothe r letter telling me that they were only going to give me a 150.oo dollars. What the heck is going on ? I always pay my bill on time. I always pay more then I have too. Right now my balance is zero. I have paid you off. If You wish to have me continue business with you, then you need to raisse my credit limit. And not just a couple hundred dollars. I would like at least 1000.00 dollars or so. Or my card will be ripped up and thrown away. My husband makes 86 thousand dollars a year. So come on people, I am not asking for 10,0000 dollars. If I dont get a credit limit of 1000.00 dollars, the card will be ripped up and thrown away.!!!! I really dont understand this, when I always pay more then I have too. So Its your choice. Thank you for your time. KIM GOSZ moreResolved Question: First job interview at an ice cream shop?
So, I have my first job interview Saturday and I was wondering what to wear. I have very similar clothes to these: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=6990434 except my cardigan has 3/4th sleeves and my navy tank does not have that huge bow and is a little more formal and has some sequins on it, but it was the closet thing I could find. So which outfit should I wear? I feel the cardigan/tank combination is a little too bland but it is more formal and business-like for the interview. So which top do you think I should wear with the slacks? It is an ice-cream place after all... And do you have any tips as to what I should say/do when I get there? I also plan on bringing along a list of my accomplishments and my most current report card to show that I have excellent attendance and am hard working and smart (I have a 4.0 unweighted gpa, 4.8 weighted). I know to smile and thank them and what not, anything else? What kind of questions can I expect? Oh yeah, how should I do my hair? I have long brown hair a little above the half way point of my back. Should I straighten it? Put it in a pony tail? Half up, half down with curls? Thanks ahead of time!Hah thanks, and I know. But I want to show them that I am professional and want the job. My husband and I have been separated (not legally mind you, since we never filed papers legally) for just about 2 years. Our 6 year marriage anniversary is coming up in a couple weeks. He has a "new" girlfriend which he takes care of her 3 kids whilst he shuns "our" 2 kids and acts like they do not exist (no birthday cards, calls, presents or anything). So, basically his new girlfriend is a schizo. She goes on her myspace and facebook and tells all her friends that she is his wife. She lists their business all the time, this is how I know that he is "supposedly" going in the Navy. He has messed with me a lot. Last year tax check he's sole about $2,500 from me and then called me to laugh at me about it. I need to sue him, but as well I am not sure I can sue my husband. I would get a divorce right now if I had the money. He has the money and he will not do it. I know I've added more than I should have.. but PEOPLE BEWARE ABOUT MARRIAGE! I just purchased an Old Navy gift card and now found out it is going out of business by me. Is there any was i could get cash for it?? moreResolved Question: do you agree with this plan of starting a business.?
Which one of the two paths do you think would be better for preparing for starting a business 1# I would get a job that pays a wage of $8.00 an hour and save my money for my small business. I live with my dad so i don't have to worry about paying bills and he has plenty of cars i can drive and food and etc. So anyway I would work 5 day a week bringing home $64 dollars a day, making $320.00 , bringing home $1280.00 a month. I would spend the $280 and save the $1000 into my saving account. I f i keep saving up money ( and my goal is to save money up for 4 years) , i would have $12,000.00 a year adding up to $48,000,00 in 4 years. While i'm saving up money i would get a credit card so i can get a good credit score ( if you have a good credit score , it will increase your chances of getting business loan and investor etc). I would start small and buy a few outfits with the credit card and some food i think for about 6 months. Then i would get a car ( I know i said my dad has alot of cars, like 6 cars but i really need to buy something big with the credit card in order to build up my score) and pay it off , doing this for a year of paying the car bill should build up my credit score if i pay on time) somewhere in the 4 years of saving money and building up credit score. I will think and create new ideas for my business and creating a effective business plan.when my 4 years are up i will start on my business. thats the first plan i have , now here is the second one. 2# I would join the military ( navy or air force) and use the benefits to my advantage. I don't have to worry about housing and etc if i live on base, I would save up my money has was described up top of the first plan and do the same thing i stated above with building up my credit score. I would use the benefits and opportunities to go into college and get the extra pay and stuff. i could use the college benefits to learn managment or business to help me not only do well in business but to also increase my chances of getting a business loan and bank loan etc etc( 48,000 dollars saved up + good credit score+ business degree or whatever kind it is = bigger loan and better chances). In the military the will teach you how to be a leader and such and such. So what do you think ? Do you like 1# or 2#? tell me what would you do differently .? moreResolved Question: do you agree with this plan of starting a business.?

Do you like 1# or 2#? tell me what would you do differently .? my dad did say he would help and provide money for me to community college only . But i don't really want to rely on him because i need to do this myself and don't want to be to much of a burden to him, The economy is bad and i don't want to draw to much money from him. I understand that joining the military maybe a risk but there are great benefit that i would love to have, college being paid for, Health care, dental etc. Nonetheless , my dad can help me anyway can. moreResolved Question: Do you believe this will be a good path to take for starting a business?

I am only 21 years old but I currently have roughly $53,851.50 in various debt. These debts are medical, dental, car reposession, credit cards, county (tickets), etc etc. I am not sure at all how I am suppose to go about tackling this. I am overwhelmed and losing sleep at night with an enourmous amount of stress. I am only 21 years of age, I have already gone threw $75,000 dollars worth of inhertiance money after my mom was victim of a malpractice with Kaiser Permamentae. I have a major gambling addiction which caused me to lose all of that inheritance and also was the major help in creating the rough estimate of aprox $53,000 dollars worth of debt and that is just thru business, I am not including personal debt that I owe friends, family etc. I also was kicked out of the Navy for stealing my roommates credit card and funding it for gambling. The medical and dental part of the debt which is also a big portion of my debt occurred when I was hit in the mouth during an ice hockey game when I decided to play with a half shield. I didnt realize I was no longer covered under my dads medical or dental, and thus im stuck with the hospital and medical bills myself. I am a mess with lots of issues and yet I keep trying to get it together. I take 2 steps forward and then something occurs that seems to throw me right back down, my support system isn't that good and I just feel lonely, miserable and depressed. I just feel like I am so overwhelmed with missing my front teeth via hockey, nothing going for me in my life at all, and a $53,000 dollar rough estimate of debt barring down on me. its causes me just to want to give up, anyone have any suggestions for me at all on how I can overcome this mountain?? moreVoting Question: Is the word "elitist" used to describe Obama a racist code word?
Is "elitist" codeword for "uppity negro, know your place"? Because I see no basis as to how Obama is an elitist. He needed student loans to get through college. Obama used to serve ice cream at Baskin Robbins as a teenager. He came from a middle-class family. He lived in a bad neighborhood in New York with a fellow student at Columbia because it was all he could afford. When he got out of Columbia, he could've worked for some prestigious firm making a lot of money. He did so for a year, but instead he decided to be a community organizer and help poor Americans that were laid off, get jobs back. He was being paid only $12,000 a year. That's a lot of elitist money he was making, right? As late as 2000, he flew out to Los Angeles for the Democratic National Convention on Southwest Airlines (aka "Elitist Airways"), and his credit card was declined when he tried to make a purchase. On the other hand, John McCain got to where he got through nepotism. His daddy was an admiral in the navy, and his grandfather was an admiral. He got in in to Annapolis because of his family connections. He performed poorly in flight school, being ranked 894 out of 899 students. John McCain also has 7 mansions. George W. Bush was a mediocre C student at Yale (Obama was an A student), and only got to Yale because of nepotism. He had family connections related to where he went to school, his oil business, and politics; he came from a wealthy family. So why isn't anyone calling McCain or Bush an elitist? A black American from a middle-class family works hard and performs well without any help or connections, and he's an elitist? Something isn't right here.Hey there: Because this wasn't simply a question, but for me to voice my own argument. Thanks for noticing. :)Larry O: I forgot to mention that I knew people were going to say "don't pull the race card!" Saying "don't pull the race card" is merely a cop-out and an attempt to make me feel guilty as if I'm using a lame excuse. I'm not one to pull the race card usually, and hate people that use race as an excuse all the time. But, that doesn't mean I believe that racism doesn't exist. I call a spade a spade. When I see racism, I call it racism. Telling me "don't pull the race card" is not going to make me pretend that there's no such thing as racism. 1 out of every 4 whites in certain states say they won't vote for Obama because he's black. They could care less if they agreed with all of Obama's policies. Him being black is a bigger issue. What more proof do you need?m1a1mike: Nepotism certainly does exist in the military. Plenty of officers take the extra mile to ensure that their sons/daughters can get in to prestigious military schools, or receive lighter punishments if reprimanded. Nepotism can exist in any sector. Do you think military officers stop being human with human emotions? moreResolved Question: Would you also be pissed and Please help?!?
It's kinda hard to explain so i'll try my best, My mum met a man through a dating thingy and he said "he was divorced".He worked in the Navy fixing helicopters and he was like 100miles away but in the end, my mum became suspicious they had be going out for half a year or so. The wife and him split up and he came back to my mum saying he loved her but after two weeks . he went back his wife. And after a little while longer he came crawling back to my mum saying he loved her and stuff and she took him BACK! But now some years have past but the most thing im PISSED off about him is that he doesn't even try to visit or arrange visits to see his kids their like 16 and 13 (i think)! This Asian guy said he entered the US on a military visa about 20 years ago. He was legal so he was issued an SSN and a driver's license. But he left the Navy without honorable discharge papers 12 years ago to start a small business, so now his whole family (except for the youngest child) is out of status. He hired a lawyer who said that he could change his status from nonimmigrant to immigrant. It has been 12 years since he retained a lawyer and he's still out of status. Is he being taken for a ride? Or is it true that his US citizen child can one day file for him even though he doesn't have an honorable discharge from the military? He seems like a nice guy, said he's been paying his taxes religiously.Add: He mentioned something about leaving the Navy without approval. I don't know if it's called desertion. moreVoting Question: I need help?
