Christchurch’s business tourism industry on show
Christchurch will cement its position as the convention capital of New Zealand this week when it hosts the business tourism industry’s largest annual gathering.

Storms Blow Down Walls To Rowan County Businesses
The storm hit around 6:00 p.m. It blew in the front walls to businesses and tore off a roof.
Paul McGee watched as a tree fell near his mobile home.
"We thought it had hit the trailer while it was raining. I couldn't come see until [the rain] stopped. Then, I saw there was no damage," said McGee.
Fire crews cut trees down and cleared roads within minutes of the storm. Several thousand people lost power but it was restored in a about two hours.
Meteorologists from the national weather service plan to be back out in the morning to decide if the damage was caused by straight line winds or a tornado.

Triangle unemployment rises to 5.1% The Business Journal of the
The unemployment rate in the Triangle rose to an level, unadjusted for seasonal effects, of 5.1 percent in June.
That keeps the area's job market among the healthiest in the state, helped by a diverse economy that relies on industries including education, government and health care.
But the local market still is slipping amid a weaker economy. The 5.1 percent figure is nearly a full percentage point higher than the jobless rate of 4.2 percent of June 2007.
Across North Carolina, the unadjusted jobless rate was 6.2 percent in June.
Figures were released Friday by the state Employment Security Commission.

Sawgrass closure South Florida Business Journal
If your travels take you on the Sawgrass Express, be advised all westbound/southbound lanes will be closed at Lyons Road (Exit 19) between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., Wednesday, as work crews install a large electronic sign.
While the road closure is in effect, westbound traffic will be directed to exit the Sawgrass at Lyons Road and to immediately re-enter the westbound Sawgrass from Lyons Road. Electronic signs and roadway signs will advise motorists about the closure and detour route.
The work is part of a project to install electronic, dynamic message signs on the Sawgrass and nine arterial streets with interchanges at the expressway. The signs will advise drivers about traffic incidents and conditions ahead.
