First check out www.youtube.com and in the search box type in industry model and talent studios scam - there is a CBS news reort that happened less than 4 months ago!!!! The way the company works is they send out "talent scouts" (mostly kids aged 18-21 who are looking for a part-time job) to various malls, movie theaters, and events throughout New York City, Connecticut, and New Jersey. These "scouts" are paid to stand at these locations!!!! AND they stop every single person they see who is with a child. They stop these people by saying something like "excuse me mam, your son is so cute he has such beautiful eyes, have you ever considered getting him into acting or modeling?". If you say no, they will continue to tell you how perfect your child is until you sign up. At this point when the person agrees to sign up, they fill out a card with just basic contact information. The card then gets sent to a call center where the person will now receive a phone call from a representative who will attempt to set you up with an appointment at their office in Edgewater. When you make the appointment you will show up at the office and meet with someone who is actually a salesperson and this person will try to sell you "marketing tools" which are photos of you and your child and a spot on the company's website which they say is looked at by various agency's. This is BS!!!!! They never provide you with you is looking at your site! This is the part that is the REAL SCAM....When you are initially stopped by the scout, if you ask the scout if there's any cost to sign up he/she will say "no it is entirely free". THIS IS A LIE!!!!! They will charge you anywhere from $500-$3,000 just to take pictures of your child to complete the portfolio. The thing is, many people fall into the trap and pay this crazy amount of money to Industry Model and Talent Studios and then.......THEY NEVER GET A CALL BACK, THEY GET NO WORK!!!!! THEY WASTED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!!!! A legitimate modeling agency would not ask you for money, they would pay for your portfolio and take a percentage of what you make for themselves. Oh yeah I should mention that Industry Model and Talent Studios admits they are not an agency!!! Once you go to your meeting with the salesperson and pay these people money you also sign a contract. The contract is very carefully written, they have lawyers present at all of their meetings to ensure that everything they do is technically legal and people can not get a refund if they are unhappy with the service. IT MAY BE LEGAL BUT IT IS NOT ETHICAL and this is how they keep your money! The company operates under different names since so many people are now aware of the scam. I've been approved for disability. I know I am getting 16 months back pay, but three and a half months of that time was spent in both a psychiatric hospital, and a group home, so I was told I will only get $30 for those months. I need to know what else I should spend my back pay on that would be responsible? I'm also going to be getting a little under $750 a month and plan to give my mom $250 in rent. I also owe her a little bit of money from the back pay. All I can think of needing is a mattress, a small TV for my room and a CD player. What could be some other things to buy? I also know that I need to save all receipts. Also, I was told I will be getting my first check in a month and my mom will be my payee. My uncle got disability, and he blew all of his back pay without saving any receipts. He bought tattoos on his forearms, he bough whiskey, he bought junk cars and other things that are wasteful. He even bought an expensive DVD player. I told him I had an extra one I would give him for free but he felt the need to buy an expensive one. My uncle also used his EBT card for two months after getting his checks. He lost his medicaid, and only has medicare now, and spend downs I guess. He is a prime example of what I don't want to do with my money. I don't care for alcohol, so I won't be buying needless things like he does. My question is; how do I budget my money each month? What would be useful to buy with my back pay that would not look tacky? Also, I am going to a cooking school that pell grant money will pay for. But I'd like to know what would be a good thing to volunteer for? Thank you for any information if you have been through this before. Would it look tacky to spend some of my money going to a theme park? And would it look tacky using some of my money to go to a nice Brazilian restaurant? The place costs $20 each and I wanted to take my mom to it, and maybe take a woman from the Internet out to eat. I am in the process of owning my own online retail business. I've asked on yahoo answers about 3 times and keep getting treated as if I don't have a brain. That being said, what hosting site is the most reliable and offers the most services? I want to offer multiple ways for a customer to pay, such as paypal AND credit cards (some people don't know what paypal is... so please don't try convincing me to only use paypal). My sister got a new modem card for her computer which was not detecting a dial tone nor could AOL initiate the old modem. I told her to get a "dial up modem card" which some people in this "Q&A" site suggested. She got a brand new "V.92 modem" which the packaging says is for "Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me and 98SE." Our computer uses Windows XP. The modem card fits where the old modem card used to be, but I am not sure if it is the percise one to use. Nowhere on the packaging does it say it is a "Dial Up modem." It does not look exactly like the one it replaced. Contacting AOL either by phone or email only results in some information that the modem could be "corrupt." Also the AOL suggestions for fixing the problem only sends me round in circles. I also don't understand all the computer lingo that is used. What is "VGA"? What is "Serial Port"? What is "Window's Dialer"? What is "NetShell"? What is "ACS"? What are "Drivers"? I am quick to learn and have a knack for technology even though I get stuck at times, and I tend to have a good idea of what these words refer to and yet it seems that the AOL advice is in the assumption that the computer that I am trying to enable has all kinds of operating systems and programs and software and such that it actually does not have. Also AOL gives the advice to take the computer back to the store where it was bought for some repairs, but my sister bought the computer a few years back and the store is out-of-business and the computer was the kind that was put together in a random fashion with used parts. It actually worked very well up until recently. I probably will continue to seek advice here until I get things right with this computer that I am trying to get to detect a dial tone and go to the internet; or until I just decide to give up. I have found a website that sounds good, but I want to make sure that it is not a pyramid promotional scheme according to Texas Business and Commerce Code Sec. 17.461. It appears that the owner of the website is an affiliate with several merchants. It's free to join. There's no obligation to buy or sell anything. He says that it's basically a way to get a percentage of what you buy online and you get a percentage of what your referrals buy. You're not buying products necessarily to resale. The owner is also offering contests and bonuses to it's members to join and shop online. For instance, If you purchase something for $50, and have 10 referrals that purchases something for $50, then you will receive $5.00 bonus on top of the commission of making the purchase that you and your referrals make. Of what I see: it would not cost me anything to join, I could save money by shopping online, I could make money by referral friends and family, and I'm buying a product that I would use, not like I am being forced to buy it. So...I can't believe that I fell in this trap but I did...so just to warn others. There are more posts related to this on Yahoo answers, but a little older...so I thought I would refresh the info. There are a lot of internet money making scams out there, but these people get better and better. They advertise on what it seems like legit websites, they say they will only charge you $1 for shipping fees and they put Google in their name to make it more credible. Anyway, after one pays the $1 then you can see if you look carefully on the bottom of the page, with very small letters, that they will charge you a membership fee of ~79 monthly. They never say anything about this before you pay. Below I pasted the e-mail confirmation I got from them...and it says something about a membership fee now, but still not how much it is. People apparently got charged the amount after 7 days without even knowing why. Anyway...right after I signed up for it I called the 1-800- number listed below and they cancelled my account. But still I'm worried about my credit card...I'll have to watch it carefully! So...be careful out there...all these internet money making websites are scam! Ok, i have just been fired from Buffalo Wings and rings in Chesterfeild, Michigan. I have only been there for 3 and a half weeks. The first week was AWSOME loved the place had a great time and loved the place, Last week i had some issues with one of the newer managers Christian... My best friend jen who is also a manager there or was cuz she also got fired 2 mins after i did. Of course, this was after I had a phone interview with a lady to whom I told all the same things to. I just had a guy at my house that owns a landscaping company. I wanted a quote for doing all the planters surrounding my yard. I need cleanup, sprinklers, soil amendments, plants, bark. He wrote a price of $800 on a business card. I asked him what type of sprinklers, how far apart, what kind of plants, how big of plants. I said I need more information. He said I wanted more information so that I could do it myself. I said I have no intention of doing it myself. I confessed that I am getting bids from 3 companies on the job and I want to know what he is actually doing for the job, specifics. (his ad in the paper said free estimates). He got miffed and accused me again of wasting his time and I only want to know what he plans to do so that it can be a doityourself job. My question: Is this normal? Don't most people get multiple bids? Detailed bids so that you know exactly what you are getting? I was contacted by an agent introduced him self as calling from dishnetwork to offer me programming package. I didn't accept the offer; I told him I am already having programming with dishnetwork. He insisted that he can even save me more with my current programming. He asked me to provide my dishnetwork account number to be able to lookup my account. I gave it to him, he then asked me to call me back in 5 minutes to tell me what exactly how much saving I will get compared to my current account. Five minutes later, he called me back, he has all my programming info already, he reiterated his offer by which I'll get free DVR, free HD programming for 6 months, free installations and with the same programming package I already have, I'll be saving five dollars of my monthly bill. I accepted the offer, sounds good so far! He told me the only way to get the offer is to set it up a new account, when I hesitated since I don't know the consequences on my existing programming or if there will be any interruption, he mentioned that nothing to worry and everything will go smooth. I said OK, then he asked for a credit card info, I questioned him on that, he said for setting up an account, they will typically put one ($1) on hold and will returned back within 1 business day. Since I remember that this was the procedure when I first setup my account, then I gave it to him. After he processed the transaction, he asked for the account setup information, I started giving him name, address, ..etc. He told me that to be able to get that offer; I should provide him with another name, since this offer is not valid for existing dishnetwork customers! WHATTTTT! I told him that you already know that I am a dishnetwork customer, you contacted me from that prospective, you managed to pull my existing programming, and then you know that I am a customer, what a waste of time. He asked me to provide a friend's name or any other person's name and SSN, etc. I decided to finish the call and told him that I'm not interested. He told me to wait; he'll try get around this. I asked how, he quickly said, not to worry, and with a lowered voice I think he said something like he'll punch a name for a friend of him and will switch it later to my name. I said I don't understand what are you saying. He interrupted me by saying congratulations! The application went through; you'll be contacted by dish network within few days for installations. (I wasn't comfortable with that but since I didn't give any more information at that point, waited to see) Couple of days later, I noticed a transaction made from my bank account by the amount of $9.98 by "VMC satellite (not dishnetwork)" and hasn't returned back. It's been a week and nobody called. I called that representative on the phone he gave me. Looked like was a cell phone or so, he answered the phone "same person". I was angry and, he asked for name to look my account up. Then he said, there's no way to look me up since I'm already a dishnetwork customer and not on their system, therefore he can't do anything for me. (At that point I remembered the friend's name thing that he whispered). I told him I don't know what you did, but I need my money. He said the best is to wait few days and the transaction should be reversed back automatically. I called VMC satellite; they don't know a person with that name. I'm confused, a transaction was made by that company, then this person should be affiliated with them some how. He also provided a valid phone number to contact him, if it was a scam, I don't think he'll be providing any true information. There's more than money that I'm concerned about, it's how my personal information and SSN, which was collected by him are used! To avoid paying taxeslike workers compensation and social security, he filed me as an Independent Contractor. 2. The agreement of pay was iffy from the start. He first agreed to pay me 6.5% of the sales I made. Then he suggested that I get paid for 3.25% of total revenue that month. Then last week (before the falling out), he suggested to pay me 8 per hour. 3. The program he used to record my comission was Quickbook Point of Sales..after the commision idea was terminated, QOS said I had accumulated commission of $541 before he took the commisions table off the program. I was able to access the commision information because he told me the password to the system administrator account. 4. I have no proof that I worked there except from the vouch of other employees, customers, police officiers, and business card which list me as the manager (that he suggested I paid half on!) His other employee that worked there was his girlfriend. I feel that if I take this to court, she will side with him and lie that I never work even though had a key to the store, business card, and sat in and work the entire day when he and her went on vacations. 5. I constantly suggested that everything be done on paper but he refused. He kept suggesting a "barter" system, for example, working free for 3 month for 2% of a corporation in the red. 6. Everyone knew I worked there. The previous owner knew, customers, everyone. In fact, I am training a client thru the store and I will refuse to personal train her for her last two sessions because I have not been paid. Is there anything I can do legally. I had a deposit error that i found and brought it to the banks attention the following morning and spoke to the teller then the banks manager and they looked into my account and told me that they don't see what the problem is because the money was in my account and that there was no way it could of been put in there without my knowledge, that mistakes like this don't just happen. i told them well the money isn't mine, i did not put it there, i have no knowledge of it and i do not even know where it came from. they looked closely at my account and did not have any specific information telling them where the money might have originated from. they even showed me the screen at what they were looking at. they told me they really did not understand what my problem was, that it was my account, there was nothing indicating anything otherwise, and that it was my money. feel free to do as i wish. i immediately left that branch and went to another location and went through the same exact thing. i then decided to wait some time a few weeks at least just to see if i might receive a call or letter by chance which i never did. now i had my own money of a couple thousand so i just spent as i did in my normal way. 6 months or so later i receive a message at work that the bank had called, however it was too late to return the call by then. i went home for the day, and shortly after arriving home i hear a knock at my door, so i answer it to find 2 gentleman at my door. one in which handed me a business card and saying he was the banks vice president and never introduced the other guy at all. and just started to tell me that an erroneous deposit was made into my account and that if i didnt pay this money back that i would be arrested and thrown in prison. my response was to him that this was something that happened well over 6 months ago and i inquired at 2 seperate branches of your bank about this and now after all this time you show up at my house telling me that your bank made a mistake and then threaten to have me arrested and thrown in prison if i didnt pay this money back. and he just left. at the time that all this took place, i started getting harrassing phone calls at work and home, my parents started receiving harrassing phone calls as well from the bank at hand, which i was well over legal age. i am going on 40 and this was lets say 10 years ago. i was being followed, pictures and video taken of every movement i made for months. wrote a check to my parents that the bank came 2 months later and took that money back from them. i finally spoke to a bank representative that was just a secretary, and was told that if i was willing to sign loan papers for my jeep cherokee laredo that i had at the time and pay that amount back, that they would drop everything and forgive the rest of the amount of money. my exact thought was who the hell does that, this smells awful fishy to me. now the thing is the loan amount i was asked to sign papers on was for $5,000 but the deposit error was for $22,500 they since seized my account shortly after this conversation, and any and all checks that i had written bounced because they seized my account without notifying me and closing it entirely, the catch is that they covered all costs that were incurred in bouncing a check, which was quite alot. didnt effect my credit at that point, yet i did have a judgement against me placed on my credit reports for not $22,500 but for $45,000 which has come off because of the time limit. this has totally screwed up my life and still dealing with crap. i know there is a statue of limitations, but still wondering what if anything can be done about this. i have all documentation of all transactions, letters, etc. which some contain completely false and misleading information, I NEED HELP... moreResolved Question: Does this job sound legitimate?? A friend (25) and I (20) are thinking about starting to repair and upgrade computers on a more organized level. We have both been fixing computers for friends and family for years, and think that it would be fun to print business cards and try to see how far a small "business" like this would take us. The situation seems like it would not really be a business, but for lack of a better term I am calling it that. We would print some business cards and attempt to bring in customers by being professional, fast, and less expensive than the large institutions (geek squad). We won't have a store, but instead we would pick up computers and bring them back to fix in a workshop area in my basement. If needed, we would also make house calls for virus removal, etc. My questions are: 1) What would we have to do legally to allow us to do something like this? We are in Minnesota. (permits, insurance, taxes) 2) Is it illegal to use free programs such as Spybot for this purpose? (Spybot is an anti-spyware program) 3) Would it seem very unprofessional if we had a phone line that was rarely answered? I left a question a few days ago regarding having two period in less than two weeks. And I was having pain on my right and left side of my abdomine. I was freaking out about the second period and was thinking that it could be a miscarage. Well I took a home pregnancy test that was negative. Then I got really scared and went to a clinic where i had to go after work. They closed at 7 pm and I arrived at about 5:30pm. i was told that i only had to pay 75dollars and that would cover a pap, vaginal check up, blood work, and a preganancy test, so They mad me wait 30 minutes to let me know if the doctors was going to be able to see me or not. They finally came and said yes she will see you. So they tell me to come to the back so I did, and a nurse handed me a cup and said go to the bathroom and pee in this cup and when you come out just sit down in the chair outside of the bathroom door. So i did and waited to be seen and placed in a room. Well after that, this is when it got really bad. They approached me infront of everyone and started talking about my person business infront of everyone there and I was like arent we going to go into a room that way we can talk in private and finish the check up. The doctor acted as if she didnt know that i was there to be treated. She began to refer me to other clinics in the oxnard area that do the same thing with the 75 dollar fee. I said why are you referring me to another clinic when i paid to see you today and get the package of which i paid for . the staff lied and said i was only taking a pregnanacy test and they tried to shove me out the door but i was not going to go out that door with out my money. they then began to tell me that i cant gert my blood drawn because the lab closed at 430. I was so upset that we all argued even the doctor was all arguing in the middle of the clinic about what mess ups that her staff had made and that i was going to be able to get my money back for the 75 dollar package and that i could come back another day and get the visit started all over again. I was so upset and then when the lady was about the refund my money back the doctor calls her on the phone and tells her to ask me if I was using condoms or some type of birth control befor i came in to take the pregnancy test. I then had given them my card again and she did the refund and meanwhile a lady had my paperwork off to the side entering more information onto a computer. and when she was done she walked over and handed me a card and told me that she had entered me into a program that would cover the pregnancy test and any other treatments that i would need in the near future for free and she was charging the pregnancy test today to that card that was covered by the state so that I could get my money and they can get there money too. She stated that the reason why she did this was because the doctor would have came in the following morning trying to pull your information and try to send a bill to your house for the money for the preg.test. She stated that the doctor was like that. But if she comes in in the morning and pulls your file she will see that we billed for the test and there is a recepit of payment for the state that she recieved for treating you and she will leave it alone and there is no way for her to over bill you or bill you again because the account will show record of payment and she cant bill you privatley. I am really at a loss here and not sure what to do. i believe my future depends on this. i really need this job, its perfect....but i am just...not...sure....i will try to make this short and easy to read: I spoke with a lady recently from yahoo chat. I was in a room and we were all talking about working from home and i mentioned in the room that i was looking to work from home. She sends me a message and asks me to view a link. The link was of a printer, a printer that is capable of printing checks. She asks me if i want to be her employee and, after a while of talking she tells me that i will be printing payroll checks for customers and sending them off via UPS next day air. She said she has ordered the printer for me and it is already on its way to my house. She showed me (in text) a copy of the UPS shipping report. Anyhow, the next thing she asked me to do and keeps asking me to do is get 100 - 200 UPS next day air shipping labels and the envelopes that go with it. She told me i could go to a UPS store and get about 10 - 20 of them and then go to another store and so on.....well, i went to the only local store within 30 miles and she only had 5...she kind of looked at me like i was crazy and was asking questions.... The ups lady asked me "whats the company name?" Thats when i realized something is up. after a few days of talking to the lady from the chatroom, she never told me the company name. ups lady asked me if i had a UPS account, and repeated that i MUST have a UPS account in order to get that many supplies in that amount. i basically told her the story here and she called her supervisor. he came down and told me he would have a sales rep call me. welll, the sales rep called me and basically said that i have to have an account (UPS accounts require a credit card, and i do not have one.) I told the lady from the chatroom about this and she said "I have always gotten them free, i have never needed to give a company name or UPS account number" she basically danced around the questions: "what is the company name?" "what is YOUR UPS account number?" "Won't i need the company name//UPS account information anyways to ship out these checks??" "What about the w-4?" "how can i file my taxes next year if i dont have all this information?" in the end she told me the company name was named after her since she started the business. she said the w4 would have to wait until she expanded bigger she gave me an invalid UPS account number registered to someone in amarillo. I recently made the WORST purchase of my life at celebritysmile.com. they charged me 4.95 for shipping and thats all so far for a "free" trial. after looking into them online, many people complain of expensive 3rd party charges coming from them because they sell out credit card information to other scam sites. First thing I did was cancel my debit card with the bank but they could not do anything about the shipping costs (i accept that). i have a problem. my friend lesley (who is 27) was recently caught shoplifting at lord and taylor. she and her friend (who is 15) got caught shoplifting and were brought to the back of the store in the security room, etc. they gave everything back to the store and the sum that all the items were was about $997 i think for lesley and for her friend was like $490 or maybe it was backwards.. i dont know. but the thing is they told them that there was some kind of new law that the store could charge them $350 and they were free to go but they still filled up 2 papers. one saying they were banned from the store and the other one i think had like the information about it etc. well also when the security people checked their wallets they took 1 card from lesley and 1 from her friend but her friends card wasnt hers it was her moms. but anyways im wondering if theyre going to like do something with the cards because they put the # of the cards on the computer. oh yeah and lesley paid $330 i think for that $350 fine they had to pay. and they didnt say anything about it like they didnt ask for the full amount because lesley didnt have any more money. they also gave lesley a receipt for it and well im wondering if theyre going to do any thing about the credit cards or something? and if theyre going to tell the police about this? oh and by the way the people at the store said that they wouldnt get the police involved but im really having a hard time now and lesley is worried to death. she is depressed and she is very very ashamed she shoplifted. it was the first time she did it and she had pressure in her and she was very very upset . please somebody help. it would be appreciated if any one that has like a job involved in all the security business to help. please lesley is really worried and im afraid that she could fall in depression or something. thanks if your reading thisoh yeah also they took a picture of lesley, but with like a camera but the picture was like not so official ( im thinking its only for like safe keep) and they also took pictures of the merchandise, but i think the people from the store were the store detectives, or something and the $350 charged were supposively from this new law that they just passed that like if your caught shoplifting you have to pay that for like a forgiveness or sumthing? idk. but yeah please help lesley is going through a really hard time moreVoting Question: uwantmore & moneybookers....can anyone tell me if this is a scam?

My uncle passed away at 2am this morning from a motorcycle accident. He lived in the US for 40 years and had a green card, and even owned a business. Just never got his citizenship due to a felony on his record. He met a German woman who was here on a temporary Visa. They got married and have a daughter (who was born here in the US) who is now 7 years old. Because of his shocking death, everyone is all over the place worrying about what will happen to his wife & daughter. I know his daughter is eligible to stay because she was born here. My uncle or his wife are not citizens. Will his wife be deported back to Germany? Or is she eligible to stay because her 7 year old daughter is a citizen?
