Excessive regulation will hasten DB wind-ups and buyouts

Confederation of British Industry director-general Richard Lambert said businesses had voiced concern over the past few months regarding the mounting pressure being placed on DB schemes.

Lambert added: "Pension deficits are back near the top of the corporate worry list. There is an incoming tide of complex and expensive new regulation that threatens to drive an extra nail into the coffin of many DB schemes.

"Firms want to preserve their excellent schemes for employees, but the pressure on them is continuing to build."

Lambert addressed members of the industry at an event held in London today, and warned that greater longevity and capital market instability together with the credit crunch had increased pressure on DB schemes.

Lambert said schemes needed "breathing space" from further regulation if DB schemes were to survive. more

US generics biz helps Glenmark post two-fold rise in consolidated net

In a company statement, the company said that revenue from its generics business, Glenmark Generics Ltd (GGL) was Rs 240 crore (Rs 128 crore), registering growth of 87.42 per cent. The speciality business, including out licensing revenues, clocked a sales of Rs 225 crore (Rs 231 crore) for the quarter of the previous year, a marginal decline of 2.25 per cent.

This was due to the decline in primary sales for the Latin America and the Africa, Asia and CIS regions, the company said.

On a standalone basis, Glenmark posted a net profit after tax of Rs 56.84 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, as compared to Rs 48.59 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Total income was Rs 194.42 for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, as compared with Rs 264 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2007. more

Resolved Question: The Sims 2 isn't working on my Windows Vista?

So, I recently installed the Sims 2, Sims 2 University, and the Sims 2 Open For Business on my Windows Vista. But when I was playing it, it would be working fine and suddenly I would click on a Neighborhood or Create-a-Family and it would freeze while it was loading. I uninstalled it and installed the Sims 3, and that worked, but I just find that I don't like it as much as the Sims 2, so I want to see if I can try again. I notice several other people had this problem with their Windows Vistas, and I know I have enough memory on my computer. One of the solutions seems to be a new graphics card, but when I tried to download one I noticed that I had to buy it. Is there any way I can get one for free, and if there is, can someone provide me with a link? Again, I uninstalled all of my Sims 2 games and so I don't want to go through installing them all again if it isn't going to work. So can someone provide me with a sure-fire answer? Voting Question: System restore does'nt work when i click the next button and i get the same result in safe mode. Why?

I recently obtained a virus/trojan named Malware defense and it claims to be a virus protection software when in reality it is the virus itself and it pops up bogus warnings and claims my computer is under attack and then asks for you guessed it, my credit card number. I have tried downloading free software to remove the virus and again they themselves want oddly the same amount of money and your credit card number.. This really makes me wonder if the programmers who create to protect people also themselves create programs to destroy computers as a way to bring in Business. Im telling you this because i don't want you to think im cheap and am only looking to find a cheap way to solve my computer hassle's, this is not the case its because i not only want to save money i also truly believe most computer problems are started and most viruses are created by those who offer services to remove them. Just seems to perfect for this not to be the case so now that you understand my frustration and hate for protection software please do not offer me a way to remove and solve this problem via anything involving a purchase only completely free answers i will read. And ultimately i may have to do a full re format in a worst case scenario because we all know that not even the strongest virus can live threw a re format. more

I've been making simple handmade greeting cards using my own artwork as well as store-bought embellishments and papers. (I also use fonts I've downloaded online, but only free ware fonts). I'm not making the money I used to and when a stranger brought to my attention that my cards were actually pretty good, i started thinking of selling these cards. I'm not sure how to go about this though. I dont want to get sued for using the embellishments, although the ideas are all my own. I keep getting a message that says "failed to find a supported hardware rendering device. Insure that your system meets the minimum requirements for DoW 2. Verify that direct X is properly installed and that you have all the latest drivers for your system." The only Requirement my system doesn't meet, according to systemrequirements.com, is that my video card isn't good enough. It is about a year old and a good one so the graphics should just be messed up a little, but that shouldn't stop me from playing right? It may also be my drivers like it mentioned, but any ideas on how to download the right drivers and how much they cost and, if theyre free does that mean they're not as good as mine? And if i download new drivers for my graphics card how would i do it without messing everything up. If drivers are even the problem. Kay, so: i downloaded the free trial, yes? and that alone took one day, two nights, nonstop. a buddy who downloaded his from the CD (free trial + extensions) said mine took longer than it did him. after that i tried running it, everything was fine, played for 10-15 min, then the screen froze* and i was introduced to the blue screen of death, followed by a restart of the comp (this then happened every time i tried to play, w/ no gaming time). the technical error code i recieved didn't match with any on their trouble-shooting forum (STOP 0x00000116). googled it, nothing useful came up. then i updated a random intel driver (Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista 32). now it just gives me a black screen*...and the mouse, which i can move. i press the start button to get me to my desktop, then right-click and close the window, after which it tells me the driver stopped and recovered successfully. * this happened only after i clicked "enter world" after signing in and choosing my character. more

I have a MetroPCS phone. I'm a simple person. It's a simple, black slide-up phone. I have unlimited EVERYTHING. I don't have to worry about going over my minutes. I only pay 51 bucks each month, and if I ever decide I'm just tired of the service... I just don't pay my bill and they cut the bad boy off. No harm, no foul. Recently, my cousin's boyfriend started working at the same mall I work at. He works at T-Mobile, so naturally he started talking to me about phones and plans. So I ended up getting into one without even blinking. He gave me a $250 phone for free, and I have a $60 plan with unlimited text/web and 300 whenever minutes. The unlimited calling, of course, is limited to 5 people, but there's free nights and weekends. Which is cool because I don't call anyone anyway. I also get a 12% discount just for being a mall employee, which sounds good to me. Well, I love the phone. It's a Samsung slide-up like my old one, except I can play music on this phone, talk on msn, and I can download photos from the web as screensavers. Couldn't do that with the old phone. Another thing that drew me towards T-Mobile and away from MetroPCS is the reception issue. Talking on Metro is absolutely horrid. They have terrible reception, dropped calls and I don't always get people's texts (or I do and they're just not in order). My problem is that when I was asking people their opinion about the switch, it dawned on me that the contract might not work out for me. What if I lose my job or something and I decide I don't wanna be in it anymore? So I went back up to T-Mobile and lo and behold, my cousin's b/f Brandon was there, and naturally he said I was "indecisive". I don't care about if he thinks I'm wishy-washy or not. I just don't wanna be stuck in a damn contract. So since Brandon is new, this Mohammed guy says, "So let's do this.... I'll give you 4 months to try it out since you work in the mall. You know we'll hook you up, right? If it doesn't work out, just come back and we'll cancel it for no fee. If I'm not here, just tell them Mohammed said you can do that. Also, by the way... I'm technically not allowed to do this because it's illegal." So, here's the deal. I technically have until Wednesday to return the phone in order to avert being stuck in a 2-year contract (14-day grace period). I kept the phone out of pressure by Mohammed, but if they try to give me the run-around the next time I return it... can I take them to court for false advertisement?
