Members of the Middlecreek Golf Course Monday Night Industrial League are anticipating the start of the 2008 season.The season will tee off on April 14 with a 5:15 p.m. shotgun start, weather permitting.

Business As Usual for Aloha Airlines

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- The U.S. Bankruptcy Court has given Aloha Airlines the legal protection it needs to honor all existing reservations, book new flights and keep its employees. But the order is only valid through the end of this month.

Aloha Airlines will then go back to court for final hearings on fees. The future of the company after that remains up in the air. Aloha's CEO David Banmiller came out of U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Friday with the approval needed to continue operating as usual.

"It's frustrating but I'm an optimistic person because everyday when you wake up you have two choices. Be happy or sad. I choose happy," said Banmiller.

The court order allows Aloha to arrange cash collateral financing with its lenders so it can continue to pay for operating costs, at least until the end of the month. more

Religion affects business decisions

“If we were normally open, we wouldn't be on Easter Sunday," said Tammi Gumm, who owns Clara's Fashions with her husband, Sandy Gumm.

The couple close their women's clothing store on Sundays almost year round to observe a day of rest.

“I think that we value our business tremendously, but we value the meaning of family, too," Mrs. Gumm said. “That's the one day that we can guarantee that we can do something as a family; Sundays are for that."

Hobby Lobby always has been closed on Sundays.

“We are a Christian organization and feel we need to have the day to go to church if we choose," said Ronda Bradford, store manager. more

Resolved Question: Cancelled debit card question regarding acai berry scam?

I had to cancel my debit card last Wednesday because I fell for one of those acai berry weight loss pill scams where you sign up for a free trial and just pay shipping and handling, but then they charge you monthly for pills you do not want. A charge showed up on my online banking for 5.95 (shipping and handling) that was a current business day transaction expiring on the 13th. I called the company to cancel my order, but I kept getting redirected and could not get in touch with anyone. This is when I called my bank to cancel my card. They did, and they are sending me a new card with another number next week. I waited until the charge for the shipping and handling expired, and it didn't go through and did not appear on my bank statement. However, when I looked again today, there was another charge for the same amount expiring on the 16th. Why can the company do this if my debit card is cancelled? Shouldn't it not be tied with my account anymore? I know it's not that much, but if they start charging the monthly fee, it could make a big difference in my account. more

OK, here is the deal. I was studying PhD genetics and had full scholarship for that, they were even paying my living expenses, $1000 a month. I was a top straight A student and submitted the best project proposal. But for the following reasons I decided to leave the PhD after 1 year of studying it and work my own business, so I registered a company online, prepared all the paperwork, business cards, bought a domain and I am 100% confident that with hard work it is gonna make me wealthy. And I prefer money over status. I was enjoying the studying part of PhD but I can't stand another 6 years of a poor student life and then a maximum $60-$70 K salary of working in the lab. I see myself more a business person than a scientist. But my father is so angry with me, he wants to cut off all the contacts. He wanted me to get the PhD so much that he can't even think that I did quit it. I feel guilty that I disappointed my father, but at the same time, I really want to change my financial life. I am 31, have married a jerk for 4 years and have a baby who is 2.5. In order to divorce my husband and provide for my baby and be free from his abuse, I had to make that decision now. There's a new MLM business going around in our area. They have no license from the relevant authority because they claim that this MLM business is an e-commerce and needs no license from the government. They're sort of selling memberships, which includes a 0% interest and late charges free credit card (minimum limit $500, depending on the membership class) + life insurances worth $5000 + travel discounts. The ONE TIME membership fee for the lowest class is only $50. And on top of these, the members get to receive commissions + company royalties EVERY MONTH in terms of credit card repayment. So it's like they have free money of $500 every month just for a $50 one time investment provided that they are able to recruit 3 people at least into this scheme. They claim they don't need no license from our country because it's e-commerce. They originate from a neighboring country and has a license from there. But I wasn't convinced because they only showed us a scanned copy of it. So yeah, they said it's e-commerce in a way that all payments are done online. And they will receive their credit cards one month after joining to give them time to recruit members. So far, I don't know anyone in our area who has received theirs except for one guy who apparently is the one introducing this company to us. more

We have two accounts with sams club. I have my own which I closed about 5 months ago because I wasn't using it and they lowered my limit. I paid it off and closed it. My husband has his own account, and then we have a business account as well. Our personal accounts are the same account number with the exception of two numbers in the middle of the sequence. When I closed down my account I signed my husband's card up online to manage it online. Sams club for some reason stopped sending statements then on my husband's account, but they continued to send statements for my closed account which said there was nothing due. I thought that the statements were for my husband's account, not mine because I closed mine out. And I didn't have an account number to compare the statement and card with because Sams club does a very annoying thing and does not put the account number on the card, so even though I have a card and a statement, they don't have the same number on them like a cc usually does. So, my husband must have pumped gas at the pump for $25 sometime in September I think. October there was a late fee charge and a $1 finance charge. Same for November. The bill total was $57 after two months, but they never sent me a statement in the mail for it, and I never got anything in my e-mail account about it either. They were sending me statements for my closed account month after month that said nothing charged/nothing due. I thought this was my husband's statement, not the one I closed MONTHS before. If that wasn't bad enough, our sams account was up for renewal last month and my husband paid it. The woman told him they lowered his limit to $100, and he paid over $100 to renew the personal and business accounts, but they NEVER told him he had a payment due!!!!!! So, we have no paper statement, no e-mail notification, and no one even said anything when in person renewing the accounts. Fast forward to yesterday, we got turned down for a car loan (we have a lot in loans out and I wasn't surprised) but it said something about non payment of a bill as the reason and I got suspicious. Even though we have a lot of credit out, there shouldn't have been a negative non-payment on it. So, I went online and got a free credit report and this is how I figured out we had a late sams payment. I have sent them an e-mail to customer service explaining the situation. Do they have the power to reverse the negative impact on my credit report and if not, is there anyway to get this off our credit???? I don't want it haunting us for 7 years over a gas bill. more

I have a friend that makes bookmarks, and she knows nothing about computers or the web, but wanted to put them online so that people could look at them when she hands out her business card. I have found a website that sounds good, but I want to make sure that it is not a pyramid promotional scheme according to Texas Business and Commerce Code Sec. 17.461. It appears that the owner of the website is an affiliate with several merchants. It's free to join. There's no obligation to buy or sell anything. He says that it's basically a way to get a percentage of what you buy online and you get a percentage of what your referrals buy. You're not buying products necessarily to resale. The owner is also offering contests and bonuses to it's members to join and shop online. For instance, If you purchase something for $50, and have 10 referrals that purchases something for $50, then you will receive $5.00 bonus on top of the commission of making the purchase that you and your referrals make. Of what I see: it would not cost me anything to join, I could save money by shopping online, I could make money by referral friends and family, and I'm buying a product that I would use, not like I am being forced to buy it. The thing that has me concerned is: Is this a pyramid promotional scheme? If it is, I do not want to be a part of if because I do not want to try to get other people to participate in it. That would cause me to be in trouble too. It might be too good to be true, but with no cost to join, I'm thinking it can't hurt. I looked at all the pages on this website and there are no places that require me to give him my credit card or bank information. So...I can't believe that I fell in this trap but I did...so just to warn others. There are more posts related to this on Yahoo answers, but a little older...so I thought I would refresh the info. There are a lot of internet money making scams out there, but these people get better and better. They advertise on what it seems like legit websites, they say they will only charge you $1 for shipping fees and they put Google in their name to make it more credible. Anyway, after one pays the $1 then you can see if you look carefully on the bottom of the page, with very small letters, that they will charge you a membership fee of ~79 monthly. They never say anything about this before you pay. Below I pasted the e-mail confirmation I got from them...and it says something about a membership fee now, but still not how much it is. People apparently got charged the amount after 7 days without even knowing why. Anyway...right after I signed up for it I called the 1-800- number listed below and they cancelled my account. But still I'm worried about my credit card...I'll have to watch it carefully! So...be careful out there...all these internet money making websites are scam! I want to accept payments in USD, CAD, GBP, and EURO so I thought of getting a multicurrency bank account. Can my customers simply go online into their accounts and make international wire transfers through their banks? That sounds pretty hassle free to me if they can do that. Originally I was going to accept credit cards, but because my business requires deposits for building materials before the project can even be started this can cost me DEARLY if a theif tries to do a chargeback after the deposit has been used to buy the materials.
