Center seeks nominees for Ethics in Business awards

The Samaritan Counseling Center is seeking nominations for the annual New Mexico Ethics in Business awards.

The Center's awards recognize for-profit businesses, nonprofits and individuals whose present or past work in New Mexico demonstrates the highest ethical conduct and social responsibility.

Nominations for the 2009 event will accepted until August 1, 2008, at 5 p.m. A screening committee will forward a maximum of 30 nominees to the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management.

Business ethics students then will research each nominee during the fall semester. The selection committee, a group of New Mexico business leaders, will choose the recipients.

Dycom Q3 earnings down South Florida Business Journal

The Palm Beach Gardens-based specialty contractor said it earned $6.9 million, or 17 cents a share, on revenue of $293.4 million. In the prior-year quarter, the company earned $12.4 million, or 31 cents a share, on revenue of $291.6 million.

Dycom (NYSE: DY) reported adjusted earnings from continuing operations, excluding certain one-time gains and other items, of $5.5 million, or 14 cents a share, down from $11.1 million, or 27 cents a share, in the third quarter of 2007.

For the fourth quarter, Dycom expects earnings from continuing operations between 18 cents and 23 cents a share, including pretax stock-based compensation expense of about $1.1 million. It estimates revenue between $305 million and $325 million.

In a separate release, Dycom said it authorized a program to buy back up to $15 million of its stock. more

The Commerce Department is to report on April orders for durable goods. Analysts surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires look for a 2% decline, coming after a 0.1 revised increase in March.

The number is seen being pressured in part by weakness in auto sales, while businesses in other sectors are more cautious in their investments in new plants and equipment.

Crude futures fall on demand worries

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Oil prices held steady below $129 a barrel today in Asia after dropping more than $3 in the previous session on a growing sense that soaring prices have cut demand for gasoline and other fuel.

Midday in Singapore, light, sweet crude for July delivery was up 6 cents at $128.91 a barrel in electronic trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange. more
