Business North - The Daily Briefing - Business Newspaper Online Bill moves forward to help small businesses save money ...

ST. PAUL - A bill (HF 3721) authored by State Representative Denise Dittrich (DFL - Champlin/Coon Rapids) would require health insurance companies operating in the small business sector to make employers aware of low-cost health care coverage plans available for their workers. Dittrich's bill has been moving quickly through the committee process this session. It passed on a unanimous voice vote in the House Commerce and Labor Committee.

"By passing this bill, we can make small employers aware of more affordable health care coverage options available for their employees," said Rep. Dittrich. "In doing so, we can help save small businesses money while ensuring that those who are eligible for health insurance, receive it."

The rising cost of health insurance has taken a toll on small businesses throughout Minnesota. more

Business to pass on cost of wage hike

The minimum wage in Ontario goes up today amid ongoing debate on whether its potential harm to business outweighs the advantages provided to the working poor.

Some Pizza Huts in Hamilton and Niagara have already placed warnings in windows that items on their menu are going up as a result.

"We regret to inform you that we will have to take a menu price increase to help offset the minimum wage increase and the impact it will have on our operations," the Pizza Hut notices say.

Richard Gidney, manger of nine Pizza Huts that have put up the sign in Hamilton, Simcoe and Niagara, says items in his restaurants are going up "by cents, not dollars."

But he said the notices were issued to let regular customers know what led to the price hikes. more

Rasa seeks foreign partners

The listed developer Rasa Property Plc is seeking foreign partners to expand its business as it aims for 10% growth in revenue this year to more than one billion baht. Lertmongkol Waravenuch, the company's director, said Rasa had held talks with several groups of prospective partners but had reached no conclusion at this stage.

He said the company was open to options under which partners could buy some of its shares, establish a joint venture, or set up an arrangement under which one party owns the land while another manages the property.

''We want a partner who has both capital and experience. It's not necessary for the partner to have products that we have not yet developed. [Having a partner] step in to assist in managing the project will help us maximise the benefits,'' he said. more
