Business Notes

BURLINGTON - After deciding she was paying too much for the cleaning service she employed as a busy working mother, Jennifer Bunning decided to start her own. She says that her venture, Fuzzy Slipper Cleaning Co., is priced to fit the average family's budget.

An initial residential cleaning is $45 for a house under 2,000 square feet and $55 for a larger house. Subsequent maintenance visits are $35 for a smaller house and $45 for a larger house.

"I have worked many years as a retail manager with the dream of opening my own business, and came to this out of helping friends with their housework," Bunning said. "I am bonded and insured for clients' protection and peace of mind."

Alliances good strategy for minority-owned businesses

COLLEGE PARK - Minority-owned businesses can leverage their marketing assets by forming strategic alliances with larger companies, according to experts.

To learn how to nurture such an arrangement, ask Louis Parker, president of GE Security, and John Carter, president of Carter Brothers.

A giant like GE has more than 1,000 alliances with partnering companies, but its work with Carter Brothers is even closer, they say, because of the attention Carter paid in cultivating it.

Another of Carter Brothers' partners introduced the men.

The arrangement started with a few small contracts and grew with the successful completion of each one in a way that was profitable to GE as well as to Carter Brothers.

"It isn't about being a minority firm or John's good looks," Parker quipped. more

High profile trial a bringing business to small community

Peggy Howell is stocking up on pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy and soft drinks.

Howell, who owns the Kountry Cafe with her husband Kenny and mother-in-law Cathy in Clinton, is gearing up for the murder trial of Quincy Omar Cross, which is expected to begin next week.

The trial, expected to last between three and four weeks, will bring attorneys, witnesses, police officers, journalists and the just curious to Clinton, a town of 1,339 in far western Kentucky known mostly for its farming.

Some locals, like Howell, are jumping on the opportunity to make money and show visitors Clinton's charms and tourism appeal.

"It's just a shame it takes a tragedy to bring something like this into our town," Howell said. "We need something. We've lost so many businesses, and it's a great little town."

Cross, 31, is accused of murdering 18-year-old Jessica Currin of Mayfield in July 2000. more

Home-grown electricity for the grid

Some energy observers say the state is moving toward a future in which Californians will generate much of their electricity on the roofs of their homes and businesses. But if that is California's future, it is not one that is approaching fast.Despite the decisions by hundreds of homeowners to install solar panels in response to state and federal financial incentives, rooftop solar provides less than 1 percent of the electricity San Diego County residents use to light and cool their homes.Bill Powers, an engineer from San Diego who suggests the region should set aside the idea of building a new power line and invest in rooftop solar instead, said there is a reason why: Homeowners can't sell surplus electricity to utilities. Thanks to a law passed in 1996 when lawmakers set the stage for California's disastrous experiment with electricity deregulation, a homeowner can get a credit for the power he generates to offset his electric bill. But if at the end of the year, if what's generated is more than what's used, the homeowner won't get cash for that power.Instead, said Scott Anders, director of the Energy Policy Initiatives Center at the University of San Diego School of Law, "he is donating all that extra energy to the grid."A state lawmaker from Northern California is trying to change that.Assemblyman Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, has introduced legislation ---- Assembly Bill 1920 ---- that would require the state's private and municipal utilities, including San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison, to reimburse homeowners for the surplus power they send to the grid."That is what customers are looking for," said Amy Morgan, a spokeswoman for the California Energy Commission, citing numerous calls to the agency on the topic.Under the bill, the level of compensation for homeowners' surplus power would be determined by the California Public Utilities Commission. more

Business Cards For Sheriff Questions asked

Resolved Question: Judgment against me in SC, writ of execution sent back Nulla Bona, now a court date...what can I expect?

I received a default judgment against me for a credit card...I did not answer when I received the papers because I had no way to pay...I thought they'd get the judgment and it would go away. I got a writ of execution from the sheriff and it was sent back nulla bona because I have no assets to seize. No property in my name, an old car, and I have some horses. My husband and I got into financial trouble and we had to quit paying credit cards so we could pay the house payment. We got the horses when times were good (didn't buy them, they were given to us in trade for work my husband did remodeling someone's house--we could afford them then--I have given one away, and tried selling, but no takers) So, today I was served papers with a court date and all it says is to bring the last 5 years of income tax returns, any bank books, titles to anything in my name. And, it basically reads like they think I have more than what the sheriff was able to find, like I'm hiding income or have a secret business. I want to know what to expect at this court date and what will happen when they discover that I really have no assets that aren't exempt under the law?As long as I show up for the court date and bring the necessary paperwork, is there still a risk of jail??I am a stay at home mom and the only income is my husband's. We are also a month behind on the house payment, so even though that's not in my name, does that help my situation as far as the judgment goes? more

Resolved Question: Legal Advice - Arrested for Fake ID. Please?

Ok, last night i was in Pensacola, Florida. Some friends and I decided to go to a bar where i used my fake (21) ID to get drinks. As i was on my way out the door i was detained by a sheriff. I was very drunk but respectful to the officer and did not lie to him about anything he asked me. he put me in handcuffs and told me that i was under arrest as he began to empty my pockets onto the table. i told him my real ID was in my wallet and he pulled it out and took down my license number and information on a notepad. The officer gave my fake ID back to the people at the bar and then brought me outside to his car where he un-cuffed me and told me to appear in court on a specified date. When i asked the sheriff for some documentation or record of the event, he gave me a business card and wrote the court date on the back. My questions are, - Do you think he let me off with a warning? - If not, he issued me a misdemeanor? Shouldn't he have given me some kind of citation or ticket? - Was i actually under arrest if i was not marandized or taken to jail? - Is this something that i can take care of through the mail rather than drive back to Florida to appear in court? - Why did the officer not take my fake ID as evidence? - If i have been charged, what office/person or department should i call to verify my court date or the charge? I have been doing some research on the internet but i couldn't find anything so specific to my situation. Also, i do not know enough about this matter to interpret what happened. Thanks a ton for the help! more

Resolved Question: What do U think of this Court Says Ok To Deny Illegal Alien Public Service Isn’t it a federal law against?

In a rare case for a state that has long offered illegal immigrants sanctuary, an appellate court in Oregon has ruled in favor of a state agency that denied an illegal alien costly public services based on her immigration status. Oregon's largest regulatory agency, the Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS), rejected a claim to provide and illegal immigrant vocational assistance benefits after a 2005 work injury that resulted in a permanent impairment. The DCBS, which administers state workers' compensation and occupational safety laws, still awarded the illegal alien an undisclosed award for the impairment. However, the woman (Carmen Carreon) wanted more taxpayer-financed perks in the form of vocational assistance. The agency determined that she was ineligible for the benefit because she was not authorized to work in the United States. Carreon had the audacity to sue the DCBS for denying her the services, claiming that the agency's director overreached by creating an eligibility requirement not granted by Oregon's legislature. The Oregon Court of Appeals disagreed, ruling this week that state law grants the agency's director the authority to establish additional conditions for providing vocational assistance. Imposing a rule that requires a person to be legally authorized to work in the United States is a valid exercise of the authority granted to the director, the court said in its decision. Public agencies seldom reject illegal immigrants in Oregon, which has a statewide sanctuary law prohibiting police agencies and local governments from using any resources to apprehend or report illegal aliens. The state's largest city-Portland-has its own official sanctuary ordinance aside from the blanket measure. These sorts of protections have evidently emboldened illegal immigrants who are increasingly taking legal action against government agencies for denying their "rights." In the last few months alone, illegal aliens across the nation have sued various law enforcement agencies for violating their constitutional rights. Among them is an Ohio sheriff who helped deport a Mexican with false identification cards, a Maryland sheriff who arrested an illegal Salvadoran woman and federal agents who apprehended a group of illegal aliens in a Connecticut immigration raid. http://www.rightsidenews.com/201001318462/border-and-sovereignty/court-says-ok-to-deny-illegal-alien-public-service.html What do U think of this Court Says Ok To Deny Illegal Alien Public Service ?Isn’t it a federal law against coming into this country illegally - yet the politicians prevent local law enforcement from enforcing the law - setting up sanctuary cities? more

Resolved Question: Friend from Guatemala wants visa. How can I make this possible?

He came here (USA) when he was 18 years old from Guatemala. He has proof of this from the child support from his first child. He is now 27. He helped me get my job at a local pizzeria. He has three kids, one born in '00 with a woman whom he doesn't speak with anymore. One born in '04 and one born in '09 with a woman he calls his wife but they're not legally married. He is a great guy, he loves his kids, loves his “wife.” He works with my boss (white guy, born, raised, and living in the USA) who he met awhile back. Boss owns two businesses- a fence business and said pizzeria. Boss is well known throughout our town (in Westchester County, NY). Boss is friends with judges, police officers, state troopers, etc. My friend (I’ll call him Rich for privacy purposes) is friends with multiple troopers and cops and such. He has a large stack of PBA cards and other types of cards (sheriffs, cops, troopers) he keeps in his truck. So anyways, he lives in a house that boss owns, he drives a truck that is in bosses name, and insurance is in bosses name too. When he gets pulled over he whips out his stack of cards, he calls a trooper friend or two, and then they let him go. So Rich and I have been working together now for about 4 months or so and it kills me to see how restricted he is. He is a very smart man. He wants to be able to live here and work here, and be able to go back to Guatemala every so often to visit. Is there any way that he can get a pass to live in the USA?I'm just telling you about his police friends to display that he is a good guy, he's not some sleaze-ball who cares only about himself ya know. more

Resolved Question: Should illegal food vendors be allowed to sell their food even if their products pose a public health risk?

Enrique Gomez takes the pork and beef from the ice chest in the back of his pickup. He chops the meat with a butcher knife and tosses it on the makeshift grill. Moments later, he slips the sizzling meat into warm tortillas. "The best tacos in town," Gomez says. For the 45-year-old Mexican immigrant, a roadside taco stand is the only way to make ends meet. "I have a family to feed and bills to pay," he says in Spanish as he hands a plate of tacos to a customer. But San Bernardino County officials don't have much of an appetite for Gomez's entrepreneurial spirit. Authorities are cracking down on illegal food vendors, saying their products pose a public health risk. "People who are doing it illegally could be making cheese in their bathroom," said Terri Williams, environmental health division chief for the San Bernardino County Public Health Department. "You don't have any way of monitoring and ensuring that it is safe." Three weeks ago, sheriff's deputies, code enforcement and environmental health officers busted 19 unlicensed food vendors in Bloomington and unincorporated parts of Fontana and Rialto. The food was destroyed and the equipment was seized as evidence pending a court hearing. The vendors were given citations and notices to appear in court Jan. 18. Officials say the sweep was prompted by complaints from residents and businesses about the vendors who congregate around swap meets, churches and schools. Many vendors prepared food in filthy and unsanitary conditions, said sheriff's Sgt. Maggie Finneran. Raw and cooked meats and perishable foods were stored unrefrigerated, often in open containers. Meat that was tested was found to be of unknown origin or determined not fit for human consumption, she said, also adding that none of the vendors had access to water or hand or equipment sanitizers. "Nothing was refrigerated or on ice," she said. "It was incredible to see. There was no sanitation whatsoever." The sweep didn't come as a shock to the vendors because authorities previously had warned them that they were breaking the law, Finneran said. County codes prohibit the sale of any food or other product from a stationary location such as a street corner - a practice known as hawking. People who sell items like ice cream from moving pushcarts must have a county-issued business license and a government-issued identification card. County officials say they issue about 50 citations a year to illegal food vendors. But a fraction of that number show up to court and even fewer end up paying a fine, officials say. "A lot of times they go to court and plead guilty," Williams said. "They will promise not to do it anymore and they are not fined unless they come back for a second offense." Williams said the county has a bilingual flier encouraging people not to buy food from illegal vendors. "It's important to educate people that you're putting your family at risk when you eat from these places," Williams said. Tamales and other foods sold door-to-door also should be avoided, she said. "They could be making them outside on a rock or in the dirt," Williams said. "You don't have any assurance." Latino customers say they are drawn to the beef tongue tacos and other cultural foods sold on the street. "This is good stuff," Cesar Sanchez, 54, said as he munched on a tongue taco from Gomez's stand just north of the 210 Freeway in Muscoy. "It's country living. It's old-style Mexico." Gomez said he came to the United States from Mexico 25 years ago and became a citizen following the passage of the 1986 amnesty bill. He said his regular job repairing shoes at a Los Angeles swap meet is down about 75 percent because of the recession. So the former Mexico City taco vendor set up shop on a dirt lot in Muscoy a few months ago. He takes home about $150 or $200 on a good night. He knows what he's doing is illegal. "Of course I'm worried that I could get caught," said the Fontana resident. "But I'm also worried about my wife and kids going hungry." About 12 miles to the west, Apolo Ibanez was selling fruit from a cart on a residential street off Valley Boulevard in Bloomington. His featured item was tejuino, a cold beverage made from fermented corn served with shaved ice. Even though he has been fined twice, Ibanez said he was back on the street because he needed the money. "If you don't work, you don't eat," the Bloomington resident said last week in Spanish. Jose Reyes, the head of operations for La Chiquita Tacos on Valley Boulevard, said that legitimate restaurant owners have asked the county to enforce the rules against illegal vendors. He said his restaurant competes with roadside vendors who sell tacos as well as fresh fruit and juices for a much cheaper price because they don't pay taxes. "I understand the way the economy is that people need to survive," Reyes said. "But there is a more

Resolved Question: criminology??????????????????????????????

On July 28, you returned to the Avenue 12/Highway 41 property in an effort to speak to the tenant or tenants in the distant ranch house. You drove up a dirt road to reach the small single family residence. In the yard you met a woman who identified herself as Martha Rodriguez Sanchez. Two small children were clinging to her. You identified yourself and explained that you were conducting an investigation regarding possible narcotic violations. She began to weep openly, “I knew this was going to happen. Are you going to arrest my husband?” When you assured her that your purpose in coming had not been to arrest anyone, she began a lengthy narrative covering a period of months. She explained that she and her husband, Jose Sanchez had moved to the property in March in order to sever all ties with his brother Carlos, who was involved in drugs. They had rented the home from a man who said that he worked for an attorney and drove a fancy red SUV. He agreed to accept very little rent, and asked only that Jose watch the barn at the far corner of the property to make sure that no one came “snooping” around. About a month later her brother-in-law started coming to the property in his orange truck on Friday or Saturday nights. He would first pick up Jose, and they would then go to the barn where they would stay for several hours. In the distance she could see them carrying bags into the structure. When she questioned her husband about the visits, and the activity in the barn, he was evasive, and told her to “mind her own business.” She said that last Thursday [July 23] she had asked her husband to go with her to a school play in which their children were appearing the following evening. He told her that he could not do so because his brother was going to come over. You asked her if she had called the Madera County Sheriff, and she admitted that she had. You asked Mrs. Sanchez if you could come inside the residence and conduct a search. She said “yes,” but as you started to enter Jose Sanghez drove up in an old pickup truck. He demanded to know what was going on. When you explained that you were going to conduct a search. He objected. Given the consent from the co-occupant, you entered despite his objections. In a bedroom which the couple shared you found a small bag of marijuana in a dresser drawer filled with a man’s socks, and a business card for attorney D. Lawrence Manning. Based upon the discovery, you arrested Jose Sanchez for possession of marijuana. His case was heard on August 11 before the Hon. David Smithson in Department 43. His Public Defender made a motion to suppress the evidence found, and dismiss the case on the ground that there had been no consent for the search. The motion was granted. TFThe judge was correct in his ruling. more

Resolved Question: What kind of loans are available to buy a house for someone with not so good credit?

My husband died early this year. He had, so he said, and insurance policy for $88,000.00. He got papers every year from Prudential which he opened and put away. When he died, however, and I called the company, I found out that he had lied, (not the first time), and the only insurance he left was a 2000.00 policy in his parent’s name, he had let the other policy lapse last year. The house I am living in now was in foreclosure...my late mother in law bought the house back in 1996 and we paid her rent money every month towards the mortgage payments. After she died, my husband took the advice of a friend of his at work who told him, "You don't have to make any house payments until the probate is settled", which of course was not true. So my husband, while assuring me he was making the house payments from a checking account he had in his own name was in fact not making them, and lying to me about it. (YES, I KNOW he was an idiot, but it gets worse.) Without telling me a word about it, he allowed the house to go into foreclosure, it was a default case, and he didn't even OPEN any of the papers he got from the court. The papers all went down to his late mother's house, since the loan was in her name, and I didn't see them, or I would have taken steps to stop it. (He also let her house go into foreclosure and lost it at auction last year. Yes, an idiot.) The first I heard of it was when he told me that the house was due to be sold at sheriff's auction. Frantically, I looked on line and he declared emergency bankruptcy with less than 24 hours to go before the sale. He then went through Loss and Mitigation. Right now, they want to refinance the loan but the loan is STILL in my late mother in laws name, even though I have sent them 4 copies of her death certificate, and called them 7 times to explain the situation. I don't even WANT this house any more because I can’t stand it, it needs major repairs, and our next door neighbor is crazy and keeps gossiping about us all over town and is showing an unnatural interest in my pretty 19 year old daughter. We saw a house in town that we love and can get for $65,000.00. Unfortunately, I don't have much money at all, since I had to pay off a few creditors after my husband died unexpectedly in February. Right now I am not working; I lost my job early in 2008 after the company I worked for went out of business. I have been applying for jobs ever since without success, and believe me I'm not picky. I don't have a very good credit history right now, since my late husband and mother in law took out credit cards in my name after we moved and the applications came to my mother in laws house (where we had lived) and they filed them out, maxed them out, and never paid on them. (My husband told me at first it was my mother in law who took them out herself, telling me this after she died, then late in January he confessed that he had taken them out with her too, (Believe me when I say if there hadn't been a death there would have been a divorce)). So I don't know if that's why I can't get a job or if it's my age. (I'm in my mid 50's and a lot of companies are hiring younger people now.) My 22 year old son, who is out of school and working, and my 19 year old daughter who goes to school and works part time live with me, and I get a Social Security check for me and my 12 year old daughter every month. We want this house very badly, I can't sell mine right now because it needs too many repair jobs, which my husband never did, and I don't have the money to have them done. We really want the other house. Is there anyplace we can get a loan in our situation? Anyone who can give me some good advice, (and not smart mouth me about my situation, or my horrid late husband and his equally horrid mother), I would so appreciate it. This house is driving me to despair and I so want to start out in a new place, fresh away from any reminders of my late husband and away from the hideous neighbor. (This reads like a bad movie, I know, but it’s all true.) Thank you! more

Resolved Question: What steps should I take against an apparent collection agency who is threatening my family and I?

A wman named Kim called threatening I should immediately call her having to do with Ottawa County court on my answering machine. I looked her up found out who she was and what company she worked for (Roth Meyer Sterling). Never heard of them and have never recieved anything by mail from them. SO I didn't call assuming it was a wrong number. This was last Thursday Sept. 10 Friday she called and my wife answered thinking it was one of our daughters specialist and she said again her name with business and that if I didn't call by Tuesday she would have the sheriff come out and give me notice. My wife said she would give me the message she didn't know who it was either. She than went straight to her mom's house to hear a message threatening her mother they were sending the sheriff out if I didn't call her by Tuesday. So after hearing of this I of course called my Court offices, they had never heard of her or her business, so she was threatening me with something she didn't have to threaten with to start. My court liason told me to call the sheriff ask if they had anything and file a complaint in which I did and of course they knew nothing of it. The sheriff wanted to call but has not gotten through yet. So anyways my question is how do I go after them because I do not take kindly to threats nor will I ever back down again. I want to put as much heat on them as possible of course I still have no idea what they are calling for. I do have debts(credit cards) in which a couple I am a month behind on but it happens when you have medical bills to pay and taxes. In any case those are just in the calling a hundred times a day thing (even when you talk to them oh well, don't really care). None though are so far gone as to be at a collection agency (180 day write off). So now you know what I know, I would appreciate any real help on giving a collection agency hell for once. more

Resolved Question: What do U think of this here Forged licenses & ID's a problem in Southwest Georgia?

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia forger may be pumping out fake drivers licenses with a machine stolen from a state drivers services center. That machine was swiped in north Georgia. Investigators worry it's being put to use in our area. They say fake and forged IDs are a huge problem here. Now the state is fighting back with a newly designed license. The look of your Georgia Driver's License will change dramatically this fall. Starting in September the new license will be more difficult to counterfeit, with laser engraved signatures and machine readable barcodes. Law enforcement says it could put an end to counterfeits that can cost a community big money. Clerks at the Warehouse Package Store check a lot driver's licenses and ID's and they've seen their fair share of fakes. "The hologram may be missing or the backside may not contain all the information that a normal ID might carry," said Louis Bernard, of the Warehouse Package Store. Dougherty County Sheriff's Investigators say the number of forged or fake ID's they're seeing in traffic stops or search warrants have jumped dramatically along with the number of illegal immigrants looking for legal ID's. "Not just hispanics, but in the Indian community and the Pakistani community, we've had a lot of illegal driver's licenses and ID's show up," said Captain Craig Dodd, Dougherty County Sheriff's Office. Investigators blame the increase on a machine stolen from a north Georgia Driver's Center that may be here in south Georgia making licenses that look like the real thing. "The number's don't jive with the state computers when you run them. It will show driver's license does not exist or that number does not exist," said Dodd. The problem is ultimately greater than just a fake ID's to get alcohol. Last year a group came through south Georgia cities, using fake driver's licenses with local addresses and forged government checks and cashed them at local businesses, at a cost to the community. "Who ever it is that cashes that check is out the money, so they basically they come in and in an afternoon they'll milk $48,000, $58,000 out of a local community just like that," said Dodd. Law enforcement says it's important that everyone in law enforcement from investigators with the Sheriff's office to the DNR gets a good education on what to look for with the new driver's licenses, so forgeries can be easily spotted. New card production will begin in just a few offices in September with all center producing the new licenses by November. Licenses and ID's will remain valid until their expiration date when they'll be exchanged for the newly-designed card.http://www.walb.com/Global/story.asp?S=10718337&nav=menu37_2 Do you think it is it a basic human right to have an ID either fake or real or how does this work ? more

Resolved Question: More Drama! Whats The Best Way To Handle My Situation!?

Me and my ex have been broke up for 5 months now. She was the one that broke up with me. We had been together for 11 years. After we broke up I gave her all of her things with the promise I would get mine. I gave her back her things but she kept playing games & giving me different excuses to why I could not have my things. My stuff she has is locked in a storage unit under her name. The value of my items is around $2000 dollars. I got tired of her games and figured she was never going to give me my stuff. About a month ago I filed a small claims petition against her. We both have to be in court Tuesday July 14. Last friday while I was gone she brought a note and a business card from the local sheriffs department. Her note stated that she was at the sheriffs office waiting on me with my items. The business card from the sheriff also stated the same thing. I never bothered showing up figuring it was another one of her games. The next day she left a letter in my mailbox stating that it was not the best idea to take her to court & that I was being childish. She also stole some of my mail. I know it was in there because I had checked the mail a few days prior and left it in the mail box it was the letter for my house payment. In the letter she wanted me to contact her to try to resolve this without going to court. I paid $50.00 to take her to small claims court. I wanted my $50.00 back. If I win she has to pay the $50.00 back to me. Should I contact her or just wait for court on tuesday? more

Resolved Question: Legal Advice Regarding My Complicated Divorce?

I filed for a divorce in August 2006 along with a restraining order. I filled out a dissolution of marriage, paid the fee and waited for a court date. (Never got one) Meanwhile I was dealing with the restraining order which was more difficult, because after I kicked my ex out and he stole my things... I had no address for him or his family. I tried having the Sheriff's department serve him, but they couldn't without an address. So after a few months of reissuing temporary restraining orders, I found a business card of a job that he had just started at the time and my mom served him. He trashed the papers in front of her and didn't show up to court. Then honestly left everything as it was till July 2008 and looked up the status. They said my divorce was at a standstill... I was surprised since my friends said that I'd be divorced 6 months after I filed. So I got back on it again and figured out what I had to do. I never used an attorney and have been doing it on my own since 2006. But in 2008 my ex finally got an attorney and FINALLY wanted the divorce too. He was trying to claim more things, saying I had a car, computer, dvds, even kitchen appliances, the list went on. Which is all a lie, he took ALL his things and even stole my things and I let him just so he would leave. The car he is trying to claim was a GIFT, by my mom and brothers. I have proof of all that and it isn't a worry. But he's very spiteful and is going out of his way to delay the divorce and hurt me. So I went to the workshops and RE-served him the divorce papers with an address I got from his attorney. The court got a notice saying it didn't go through somehow. I don't know how he's avoiding getting that... I went to court had someone that knows about this do it WITH me and we pulled up his address and I'm still not getting a court date! But anyway, his attorney wrote something up for me last December (2008) saying if I signed it, that I wouldn't have to show up to court and that we'd be divorced. I read it through and said I'd sign it if he changed the part where my ex claims to have never been served the restraining order papers. Cuz that was the one thing I did serve him in 2006. I told his attorney that I was more than willing to remove the restraining order if he changed that and put the truth. I never got a reply from his attorney. A few days ago I get an email from his attorney saying I'll be charged my ex's attorney fees about $2000 worth along with a bifurcated judgment, saying I never returned his calls. I explained to him that I was unwilling to give my number out, due to the fact my ex will get it and maybe harass or intimidate me again. He had my email and DID NOT email me until June 18 when he informs me that I have to show up to court in July and forced to pay fees. What can I do? I never avoided any communication, and I've been desperately trying to get the divorce finalized! I'm the petitioner for crying out loud. I feel like my ex and his attorney are trying to screw me over. He didn't make any attempts to contact me or email me and he admitted that through email, but he said that he called my mother's number several times. As far as I know that's not true. Also, I really don't want to be near my ex husband. My restraining order still stands and I don't want to miss my court date. What can I do? Do I qualify for a court call? I really really need help, if you know anyone that would know what to do in this situation, please send them my way. more

Resolved Question: Can u avoid a sheriff to talk to you?

My abusive ex husband filed "something" ( i dont know ) its all his craziness to revenge coz i filed a divorce a week ago (not myself to go court, just paid lawyer) , and child support which payment start next month. We didnt debate at court, we both agreed infront immediator about it. Problem is i have my son almost full time. And he's so irresponsible. When he has my son, he keeps calling me to pick up my son. I still have to find out today to call sheriff whats goin on, why he left business card for me to call him. Im not used to this, And I dont want to talk about personal issues in court. I just dont have courage to do this if maybe restraining order or whatever that bring me to court. By the way, my ex accused me of stealing something, his son's toy that i took from his place and his mom was there letting me get it. What happen if you dont want to see sheriff, are they coming back and forth to knock your door?? FYI :my ex husband had a felony record 4 years ago. and so were separated on and off, for 2 years after that. And after he signed divorce 3 days ago he act like hes so mad. He said he will see me in court. more

Resolved Question: How can I stop from hating my sisters guts?!?

I'm not a perfect person, but my 19 year old sister is the biggest LIAR, MANIPULATER, and THIEF ever with no signs of changing. When she first went through this phase of changing so dramatically (in her very early teens), I tried to keep our family together and understand her. My parents weren't around most of the time because they had a family business to run to support us. So it was me and her. I was a horrible substitue as a parent because I was only 2 and a half years older than her and trying to grow myself. It seems like she thinks that just because people find her attractive and charismatic she has a sense of entitlement. She gets everything she wants and is treated fantastic by generally everyone and forgiven easily, because of the way she looks. I know it's wrong, but it makes me feel bitter because I'm the opposite. When one of our family corrects someone's misconceptions about her it comes to, "I don't believe it." She stole over $12,000 of my parent's money, used some of that to buy her boyfriend a used car. Still stealing two years later, has been kicked out of the house around 6 times only to sneak in through the dog's door. By now, I imagine the price tag of stole money would amount to about $20,000 dollars. She has siphoned gas out of all of our cars. My mom has copies of forged checks she wrote in order to do stupid things like take vacations in suites of laughlin in vegas, dirtbiking, and jetskiing. She stole from my Grandpas life savings who is living with us due to serious heart problems. She stole both me and my mom's debit/credit card to fund an extravagant temporal lifestyle for her and her stupid boyfriend (even though she working at the time). She tells her friends lies about our family. Tons of credit card debtors call the house and me and my parents know it's because of her. She has keyed my parents truck to the point where they had to get the whole thing repainted. She told her friends the most idiotic lies, like having cancer and being a professional surfer. She's insane and is extremely untrustworthy. Especially towards people that love her. The thing I don't understand is it's like she's blaming me. Everytime she thinks I'm not looking she gives me these, *you'll get what's coming to you, I hate your guts* stares that leaves me dumbfounded. I'm at the point where I can't forgive her anymore, don't know if I even love her, and can't believe I'd even cry if she ended up dead somewhere due to her own stupidity. She has ZERO concious whatsoever and doesn't care about people or their welfare. My purse is next to me at all times. She left the house awhile ago and I decided to keep my purse in my room behind the door...only to find that money was missing from my wallet 20 minutes later. I'm going crazy and getting so paranoid to point of suspecting that she's using my social security number and name (which has been tucked in my wallet) for her credit cards. Every uncle, aunt, cousin, grandpa, grandma relationship we've ever had has been ruined by her and her conniving evil mind. We called the sheriff on her months ago but he said there was nothing he could do about it. I'm really going through alot right now. Seriously questioning my spirituality and the God I believe in. I know it's selfish but some of these things that are happening in my life make me feel like I'm at the point of losing my soul. I have had no will left to live. No compassion. No forgiveness. No love. And steadily growing more bitter and indifferent towards God. more

Voting Question: Would you vote for me for New York Governor?

•I would pass a law to make property taxes in all counties flat at 4% of the homes value. •I would pass a bill to make the property tax on businesses that decide to come to my state from foreign countries or for companies that once held more than 40% of their offices/manufacturing plants in a single US state 0.2% for 10 years, and then increase 0.1% every year after that for 20 years. •For education I would pass a law to make text messaging/cell phone use during school hours illegal, I would make it a priority to make a contract with private ISP companies to make sure that broadband internet reaches all schools. •I would support a voucher program for children to have private school alternatives to make public schools more competitive. •I would also pass a bill to build a new SUNY university which would offer high quality education in medicine, law, education, energy careers, etc. for a 45% reduced price but I would make admissions very competitive. •Pass a bill that would allow only the children of citizens/legal residents/holders of non-expired visas to attend my states public schools/community colleges. •I would pass a law named (NY-verify): first I would issue a workers card to everyone in my state that has a social security card/non-expired visa so that employers must ask to see that workers card to potential employees to verify that they are legal workers and thus can be hired. This law would also be applied to apartment/house renters. If violators of the law are found they can be sued by the state and huge fines can be placed on them. •I would work with sheriffs of counties to analyze parts of the state that need the most police force/national guard troops to crack down heavily on drugs/illegal gun violence. I would also make penalties related to those crimes heavier and more severe. •MOST IMPORTANTLY I would pass a law to create an optional program to give homeowners a state issued debit card where they can store up to $8000, but they will not be able to touch it. That money is then taken by the state and is used to pay a part switching the home to solar energy for electricity/heating/water. The rest of the costs will be covered by a state funded program. Businesses would be obliged to participate in the program. The program would also expand wind energy construction. •I would invest in building local rails and new bus systems to link small towns to large metropolitan areas. I would also invest in public works projects and making them more energy efficient.OJ: stop trolling. more

Resolved Question: Ex-California bookkeeper accused of embezzling $10M. Your thoughts?

VISTA, Calif. – A former bookkeeper embezzled $9.9 million, forcing her company to make layoffs as she bought 400 pairs of shoes that she kept in a room-sized closet decorated with a crystal chandelier and a plasma television, authorities claim. Annette Yeomans, 51, surrendered at the Vista jail on Friday and was booked for investigation of grand theft and embezzlement. She was being held Saturday at the San Diego County jail in lieu of $10 million bail. It was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney. Authorities allege that Yeomans embezzled the money from 2001 to 2007 while she was chief financial officer for Quality Woodworks, Inc., a cabinetry business in San Marcos. She spent at least $240,000 on 400 pairs of shoes, $300,000 on designer clothing and 160 purses valued at $2,000 each, investigators allege. She also remodeled a bedroom into a closet with the chandelier and a 32-inch TV, they said. "On a weekly basis Yeomans would spend $25,000 on her credit card and then pay off the balance the following Monday with company funds," said Sgt. Mark Varnau of the sheriff's Financial Crimes Unit.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090307/ap_on_re_us/embezzlement_arrest;_ylt=AuUNv3U2D04ty4ih.h1RCojZn414 Edit: It's like every other week someone has committed another fraud or embezzlement. It's not like this happened "yesterday." Most of these people have been doing this for years. For years! No wonder the economy is all jacked up. Bernie Madoff, Aurthur Nadel, Marcus Schrenker, Citibank, AIG, Goldman Sachs, Wellsfargo, just to name a few. This is one of the many reasons why our economy is so jacked up.Edit: $240,000 on 400 pairs of shoes?! ( o _ 0 ) Woman! God gave you two feet. How many pairs of shoes do you need?!? Ya know? In jail, you wear what everybody else wears! Jail house slippers. Not even remotely Gucci! more

Resolved Question: Please help, driving citation question [washington state]?

I was in a accident back at the end of October. I rear-ended a guy going 50mph. It was early morning, but no snow/rain/ice. You could even see I left skid marks on the road of the accident so I definitely slammed on my brakes to avoid it. He was slamming his brakes to miss a deer. The person directly behind him swevred into the opposite lane of traffic, so by the time I saw he hit his brakes to stop it was too late. Anyways I completely totaled my car and I was sent to the hospital by ambulance because I couldn't get out of my car. The guy I hit... I just messed up his left side of the bumper/tire. I hit him strait on so all i can think is that he slammed on his brake, and slid sideways. I was in a '93 Escort, and he was in a large SUV (possibly a Yukon). Well he moved his SUV before the ambulance or police showed. Because my mom was 5 minutes behind me and stopped at my wreck. She was confused why his truck was at least 15-20 yards ahead of my car and moved! I got a business card and my driver's licenses left at the hospital. The sheriff never spoke to me or said if I got a ticket. I waited for something in the mail and I also called his business card and got no call back. So I never worried about it, till today. I just got a letter from the DOL saying I never payed my citation [too fast for conditions] and or failed to respond. But I never received any paper work saying i had one. I'm so confused. Now i have to go to court and explain why I'm late. and or the violation as well? I did leave a recorded verbal statement with my insurance company saying my POV of the accident and they told me It seems I did as much as I could to avoid the accident. Now I'm at a lost of what to do. Ive never had a ticket before or ever been in a accident. Can anyone give me ideas of how to approach this so I don't have a record on my drivers license or have to pay a ticket? or is it too late? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this situation?

One of the two women who interviewed me at Hennepin Sheriff's Office wrote an answer that I did not even say on the packet she had of questions to ask me. I am so confident of this that if they do a cross comparison of what both interviewers wrote they would see they don't match. When she asked me something very close to "Have you ever been disciplined or been spoken to about an error you made" I responded at Pearson Education we were given reports of our errors so we can improve ourselves. It was after I said this that she started writing a whole lot of words with a facial expression that is very odd and hard to explain. They were surprised at my high rate of typing 90wpm with 1 error which I did with my previous sheriffs office interview in which I was told that I will be put on the eligible list and the position was placed on hold due to budget deficits and given a business card of the Supervisor. Back to the recent sheriffs interview, I even noticed her make a sort of circle on the paper after she finished writing and I am 100% sure she wrote things that I did not even say. I think it's because I am Somali and physically look different that caused her to react differently to my answer than she would have if it was a person from America. After she got done writing she didn't give me any further info (such as a business card) and said we will get back within 2 weeks. She sent me a letter saying "the decision was a hard one." I don't care if I am not offered a position what is disturbing is the fact that she is writing things people don't even say because of some sort of inner stereotype she has that she may not even be aware of. I've been stereotyped quite often in my life because I physically look young from the outside but at the same time I was fortunate enough to get hired by Human Services twice. I have employment history with the County which has allowed me to get called for interviews and offered 2 Human Services Department position. I just passed the written and video exam for the Detention Deputy and strength, agility and psychological are next and I hope I pass all and get offered the position.A lady friend of mine who also worked at Human Services at the same time as the interview told me that they did not even sent her a letter like they did with me. She is also African American like me. In my opinion, if a person takes the time to come to an interview and in my case even take time off from Human Services that person should at least get a letter notification. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about self righteous crusaders?

So I was in wal-mart about a month ago with my 31 month old and we were shopping and we kind of play and talk while he is in the cart but we keep it quiet. Then this woman comes by telling her kids over and over to stop and they are yelling and knocking stuff over. She can not get them under control. One is about my sons age the other is maybe four and they are just running back and fourth around her. One even bumps into me at one point and she does not even say anything to me like sorry. So I get out of her way and move on to a different part of the store. Well they must have been destined to follow me through the store because I could not get away from them. Eventually my son thinks he can act up and yell because those kids are doing it. I tell him no the first time he cry’s wanting out of the cart. He keeps on and I tell him if he does not stop I am going to make him. He keeps on and I take him out of the cart grab the waist of his pants and give him three swats on the butt. He gets a few tears and I tell him if he keeps yelling I will do it again. Now my son is being a good boy like he almost always is and we keep shopping. Out of nowhere the lady with the bad kids comes up to me and asks who I think I am whipping my kid in public like that and starts to tell me how it is bad parenting to do it at all. While this is going on one of her kids knocks over a display of paper towels I might add. I do not believe in getting angry with a woman so I ask if her husband I around. She gets very mad then, I noticed no ring right after I said that, and she just goes crazy. I take one of my business cards out of my wallet and right down my home phone on the back, I told her if she felt my behavior was inappropriate she could discuss it with my wife. My wife is mean too so I was hopping she would call and my wife would teach her some manners, lol. Well then I walked off and went about my business. Not three days latter there were two people and a sheriffs deputy knocking on my door. The woman in charge asked if she could come in and kept trying to look in the house. I told her I would rather they not. She told me she would really like to come in and I said let me rephrase this if you do not have a warrant you are not coming in my house. I closed the door and she had the nerve to stop it with her hand. She said are you sure. I told her if she was not out of my yard by the time I got to the phone I was calling the local police because she was now trespassing. That weekend I am golfing with my friends, one of them a judge and he tells me about paper work for a warrant he had come in the other day. This lady tried to get a warrant to come in my house and make sure I don’t beat my son. We have been friends for years and our kids play together so he turned it down and told the other judges the same so I thought everything was over. Well wrong. This social services lady tries to go over their heads to get in my house saying that I was given unfair treatment. Well I guess I know people because I am active in local politics and always at our parties fundraises so it did not go anywhere and now she is fired. All this trouble because someone that does not make their own kids behaved got mad because I make mine act right in public. I have no doubt in my mind that my son would have not acted up had he not seen her kids acting up. Don’t you hate when people don’t mind their own business and try and tell you how to parent when they can not do it their selves. If you would have met this woman I could not converse with her and I don't believe a man should raise his voice to a woman so I gave her my phone number and told her to take it up with my wife. I don't care if my wife raises her voice to another woman. My wife still looks for her when we go to wal-mart she wants to give her a piece of her mind.Mia my son is almost always good and if I would never hit him if I were mad. That is how people loose control. I simply taught him a lesson while what he did was fresh in his memory. Physical pain is a great motivator. So is fear of embarasment. How can you tell me not to judge when you judge as well. I simply told what happened. No mia was the person that add was for.Im very confident I am mostly just ranting. I do believe in instant consiquences at that age. When he gets older it will be different. I have never spanked while mad, we do time outs most of the time at home but in public spanking is much easier and gets an instant effect. I can not put his nose in a corner at wal-mart. I got spanked if I acted up in public and I turned out fine. more

Voting Question: How long does someone have to press charges on robbery?

just before christmas I did the a very shame full act. I fell into temptation and stole a $500 gift card from my roommate. I then proceeded to make purchases and spent it all with in a few hours. She then discovered the missing card that evening and immediately proceeded to investigate. made some calls and found out the locations of purchase. She proceeded to the last place of use which was a restaurant. I still did not confess. as she returned she asked me again informing me that the sheriffs where on their way. I then confessed...wanting to make things right I shamefully apologized and offered to pay her back first thing in the morning to make things right. Well the sheriffs being acquaintances of her let her decide and we cam to terms that I will pay her back first thing come to business the next day. Which i did. I was not arrested nor have any charges been placed. Her buddy sheriffs still ask her though what she wants to do whether to place charges or not. I regret my actions, they were not of my character and am really ashamed and sorry for what I did. But I'm scared now that just for revengeful sake she will press charges. more

Resolved Question: Pulled over with out reasonable cause.?

Sorry this is a bit long. My husband and I were pulled over, while on vacation to a national park. We were just heading home and were NOT on national park property when we were pulled over. The officer stated that he was unable to see our sticker (we had a new car) and that he pulled us over accordingly. First of all once the officer was behind us he could clearly see the sticker in the window (he says so in his own statements) I asked him him if everything was satisfactory at that point then. And he stated well since I got you pulled over I may as well check your paper work. After a moment he paused looked in the backseat at my children and asked, why aren't they in seat belts. In unison my boys all said..WE ARE! and pointed to their buckles. Then he asked if these children were really mine. ?? what is that his business anyway? After a moment he asked for the paperwork again and I stated it was in the back of the car, and apologized for the inconvenience, because we had been hiking and I put the safety kit in the glove compartment and had to move everything out of the glove into the safety compartment in the trunk (long story) SO I walked to the trunk (as he permitted) and opened it, There was a packed item (lightweight in the way) and I started to move it, the cop rolled his eyes and said just forget it. I told him, it's ok the car IS insured and it'll just take a sec for me to get it..he said he didn't want it. He then told my husband that he was under arrest for driving on a suspended license... Which was news to us. He arrested my husband in front of my children and I was forced to find my way to the town some 50 miles from where we were pulled over. He attended court that day and the judge told him that he better plead innocent (which was our intent) or he would get 30 days in jail right now. The cop pulled me to the side outside the court and told me he was issuing my husband a no insurance ticket. I told him I had the papers in my car (which was parked RIGHT in front of us and the cop had no probs with me driving it) When we arrived backk at our home 240 miles away we learned the suspended license was due to an accounting error and was promptly restored with an oops, sorry. I unloaded the car, put the insurance back in the glove (intent on showing it at the court hearing) I switched insurance the next month for cheaper rates but kept the card..Our court date wasn't until Dec. In Nov. my car was broken into and trashed, nothing was stolen but they smashed my stereo and papers were scattered about the neighborhood from mine and other vehicles...The old ins. card was gone, so I called and conveniently the company was out of biz. so we now had to accept the no ins. ticket as well. Now this court has made us put our lives on the line by traveling through some of the worst weather on some of america's deadliest roads (glacier National park ) our next date is in January 13 th and the public defender is trying to get my husband off on the fact that the stop was illegal all the way around. My real question is, I know what the cop did was wrong. I have missed work as has my husband, my kids school, my kids watched their father be arrested on an oops from a court. We have put our lives at risk because this court won't move dates to spring. I would like to put charges against the sheriffs dept. in that county. ANyone else think I have the grounds to do so?Wow, some of you are just helpful little creatures..If you had read the whole thing you would know we have one attorney already. I was hoping there would be someone who knows a little more about due process and would know what kind of grounds we have... As for a the person who called it a tale. I don't waste my literary talents on people like you. Crap happens in life and unfortunantley right now it's happening to us. SO if you have nothing intelligent to say..don't answer the thread.Temporary tags in Montana are just your registration with the date of expiration written in black marker on them...they don't run them.. they can't. The officer ADMITTED to it being a wrongful stop.ozpry? How can i control who responds to my posts? Someones just milking for points I see. at least they wrote a good answer...BTW.. UPDATE> The attorney in That county in Montana is now seeking that the charges be dropped as a result of the officers admittance... I will update after our court date if there is one this month..as right now HIGHWAY 2 From Shelby to Glacier is closed due to blowing and drifting snow. more

Resolved Question: Why would the Mexican Consulate issues ID cards on US soil ?

Could the reasons below be good reason to why they issues these ID Cards? Do people that protest the Moblie Consulate offices know why they are allowed to issue these cards on U.S. soil? What do you think? http://www.migrationinformation.org/feature/display.cfm?ID=115 Local US police and sheriff departments have been among the most enthusiastic backers of the consular IDs. Nationwide, an estimated 800 departments accept the matrícula as valid identification. Many cities have also received the scanners that allow officers to check the cards' most sophisticated security features. Police departments welcome the cards for the following reasons: •By facilitating the use of banks, the cards help immigrants avoid carrying or stockpiling large amounts of cash, which makes them targets for robbery and home invasions. In some cases, the police themselves have asked local banks to accept the matrícula. •Having identification encourages people to report crimes and to come forward as witnesses. It also allows police to keep better records. •When the police stop someone without identification on a minor charge, they are forced to hold them overnight when a citation would otherwise suffice. Resources are also wasted in identifying detained undocumented immigrants. •People without identification are more likely to flee when stopped by police. •The matrículas make it easier to identify dead or unconscious people. •Local police are generally not responsible for immigration enforcement, so immigration status is irrelevant for their purposes. The local governments of 80 cities, including Tucson, Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, and Dallas accept the matrícula for uses such as obtaining a library card, entering public buildings, obtaining business licenses, registering children for school, and accessing a few, limited public services. At the state level, the most important use of the matrículas is in obtaining driver licenses. Although most states now require proof of legal immigration status, there are about 13 states that do accept the matrícula as proof of identity when issuing a license.  more

Resolved Question: How do I know if this guy likes me?

Hello, I need some help. Three months ago I was pulled over by a sheriff after leaving work. He was very nice and decided not to give me the ticket, told me i was the first person he let go for my offense(going around a barrier), gave me his Business card, Then told me that I should apply for a job at the jail where he works. The next day he went in to my work, and told my coworkers about what had happened and talked about me. It did not cross my mind that he could be interested in dating me. Yesterday he came in to my work and I greeted him by saying "Hey! you're the guy who pulled me over! Then, i wasn't sure if it was him. He was pretty surprised and said "you don't remember me!?!" Then, he asked if I had been "being good" I told him no because I just got a speeding ticket. He asked me to get the ticket so he could look at it. Then, as soon as I tuned around he whispered to my coworker about how pretty he thought I was, and left by saying "I'll be back next week..." By the way, I work at 7-eleven... So its not like hes stalking me when he comes in, maybe he's not even coming in to see me! What does all of this mean? My coworker insists that he "likes" me... I am horrible at picking up these signs when it comes to myself. So please give me any input or advice you have...  more

Resolved Question: Should I get a restraining order against my mother-in-law?

Ok, so this whole thing started almost a year ago. My mother-in-law, talked me into putting my business into a building that she owned. Talked me into doing a bunch of renovations, promised to pay me back for them. Then when the renovations were done, she told me that she was going to delay my rent for a few months to let my business get up and going good. There was no lease at this point. . The first day I was open my water heater went out, by this point 6 months of renovations had gone by and I had not received a single dime of the money she owed me. So when the water heater went out she told me that it was my responsibility to pay for it. I refused as I still hadn't received a lease or any money that I was owed. I told her that "no, as the landlord this is your responsibility". Well, about a week later after the water heater incident her husband comes in with this horrible lease, I refused to sign it due to my lawyers advice. He advised me that signing that lease would be a big mistake, and that they needed to redo the lease. Well, then my roof started leaking, they refused to fix it, they refused to change the lease. About a week later, I get told that I need to start paying rent. Which the original agreement was I wouldn't pay rent until the 3rd month of being open. I was still in the first month. So, I said ok, they made first months rent $100, I asked them to come by and get it, they agreed, then they never showed up. My husband ended up taking it to them after a very hateful e-mail. The following week, I was told that I was being evicted. My husband, at this point was very angry. Told them that if they evicted me that they would need to just stay out of our lives because I had spent well over $30,000 fixing up her building without any kind of repayment. Well, now it has been almost a year, and they just won't leave us alone, they send us hateful e-mails, horrible letters to my parents about me and my husband, and then they missed our oldest child's birthday(didn't even send her a card), we have went to the local police dept. and they called them and told them to not send anything else, no phone calls, no e-mails, no letters, no packages, nothing. Well apparently they don't feel that they have to listen to what an officer of the law is telling them. Because our other child's birthday came up and they sent a package, and the package contained cards that had checks in them. Now, neither of my children our old enough to sign a check, let alone, be able to tell the bank teller who they are. So. we sent the package back. I personally sent an e-mail to my mother-in-law asking her to just please leave us alone, that we are under a lot of stress and that the stress is making my pregnancy worse. If I am not careful I will end up on bed rest, because of all the stress. She doesn't seem to care. Its like she knows when my husband and I are finally getting some stress relief, and then they do this again. I don't know what to do, since the police dept. won't do anything about it anymore, and the sheriff's dept. won't do anything either. Some one please help me!By the way, I just had to change my number, due to her calling from numbers we don't know. And it costs money to do that. My number was supposed to be unlisted, but for some odd reason it wasn't. So now it is supposed to be unlisted again.Ok, the reason we sent the checks back is because our bank wouldn't let me deposit them, since they were wrote out to my children, because they want more id, than I currently have on them, social security card isn't sufficient enough.Thank you for all your advice. The thing is this whole situation goes beyond the whole shop thing. First of all since I spent that much money on her building I was unable to spend more and open a new shop. Second thing is my husband is more upset with his mother for her actions that she has made. The third thing is I totally agree with him for being upset, I mean the woman kept him from his biological father for 26 years. And, when he got into contact with him, and he mentioned it. She said let me guess he is in such and such state and knew the exact town. After finding out that he was speaking to his father she went off the deep end and started all this crap.Thank you for all your advice. Resolved Question: Ask for business cards in police interview?

I will be having an oral interview next week for police office position. Is it a good idea to ask for their business card? I'm assuming there will be a deputy sheriff, etc interviewing me. Do they carry business cards? I have asked for these in the past when interviewing for other jobs so I could send a thank you note afterwards. Thanks for the advice. more

Resolved Question: If you get into a car accident and the one that hits you leaves...?

If you get into a car wreck and it's the other persons fault, and your neck hurts and the person says "I don't have time for this" and gives you their business card and leaves, should they be arrested? This guy has a lot of money and owns multiple companies, so i'm afraid he might have a lot of pull at the sheriff, so far the sheriff hasn't done anything other than take his business card and now they wont call us back. We know where the guys business is and his name and phone #, what should we do? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this latest immigration raid ? Maricopa County sheriff's officers raided two Mesa sites ?

The Chandler City Council delayed awarding a $75,000 contract Thursday to a landscape company that was raided Wednesday on allegations of hiring illegal immigrants. The council was preparing to rubber-stamp the contract with Artistic Land Management, who already had five contracts with the city totaling $1.4 million this fiscal year, but the city's staff recommended at the council meeting to continue the item until Sept. 25. Wednesday's raid, in which 29 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested, raised questions for council members. "The first question that comes to my mind is, will they have the people power to deliver on the contract?" Councilman Bob Caccamo said. Councilman Matt Orlando said he has the same question, "illegal immigration aside." Maricopa County sheriff's officers raided two Mesa sites after receiving a tip that the business was knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. According to a sheriff's office news release, 69 of the 127 employees have discrepancies in their employment documents consistent with identity theft. Deputies seized personnel files, time cards, employee rosters and work assignments to determine if the company violated the state's employer sanctions law. The law, which took effect Jan.1, allows a judge to suspend all state licenses of any firm found to have knowingly hired an undocumented worker, and a second violation within three years results in license revocation. Sheriff Joe Arpaio said much of the work in the investigation is yet to come. The contract called for Artistic Land Management to provide plants to replace damaged and dead ones on city property such as traffic medians, right-of-ways and subsidized housing complexes. The contract would be for one year with the option to renew for four additional one-year periods. The company had contracts totaling more than $2 million the previous two years. Jose Hernandez, the company's owner, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday. http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/124355  more

Resolved Question: HELP! Process server dodging techniques?

My company is being chased by the phone for a bogus debt. However, thanks to them my business is ruined and like everyone else in this economy I am broke. So, long story short I've been successful on dodging the local sheriff process server a few times on this suit. YES I realize if they really want to serve me they will but it would appear they don't at this point. Basically what has been going on is about once every two weeks the server has been knocking my door early AM. Last time they left a card with a number. Of course, I don't answer. I'm trying to prepare my case and other things so delaying this would be good. What should/can I do if the server happens to catch me off my property or going to my car? Why must I admit that I am me? Will the officer get mad if I deny my identity and do something illegal? Are there different rules regarding serving a corp agent vs. individual? This is for a corporate debt and I (as the only agent) am being served I guess at my location since it's listed in the state records. Please only good advice here. I don't want to do anything illegal or get myself in trouble. At the same time, the LAST thing I want to do is make it easy for the evil phone company to serve me/my company on this. An attorney I spoke with also rec'd I at least try to dodge process to buy more time, etc. more

Resolved Question: What do I do if I was wrongfully terminated for being in an auto accident with a sheriff?

The sheriff was following to close and rear-ended me and my husband while we were stopped at a stop sign. The sheriif officer was travelling with her child in the front seat and bumped us really bad. She refused to call the police at the scene of the accident. We did not have cell phones, but we requested the officer's business card. I also work at the same Sheriff's office. I reported the accident and went to the hospital, they treated me like a criminal, told me they will not pay for my injuries and five days later I was terminated for "failure to meet probation period." I did nothing wrong. What can I do to get my job back or sue for wrongful termination? more

Resolved Question: Why is OK for Scientologists, but illegal for these idiots?

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Authorities say the owners of a suburban Chicago tarot-card reading business have been charged in an alleged plan to defraud customers by persuading them they were cursed. The DuPage County sheriff's office says customers of Psychic Tarot Card Reading thought they could only lose the curse by undergoing thousands of dollars worth of counseling. Tracy Tan is charged with eight felony counts, including theft, forgery and possession of fraudulent identification. Eric Tan is charged with felony possession of fraudulent ID. They were being held at the county jail Monday in lieu of $750,000 bail each. They're scheduled to appear in court April 7. -------------- So, it's OK for the "Church" of Scientology to charge thousands of $$$ for "Auditing" with "E-Meters" and "Training" to identify "engrams", "incidents", and "implants", in "preclears" ? Does this make sence to anyone? Both sound the same to me: "Pay us tons of money and we'll make you all better" (minus proof) more

Resolved Question: Who in law enforcement would come to your house?

I have a friend who is a bit of a story maker upper, and I just want to kinda check it out..she has an ex who just got out of jail and he is supposedly coming to look for her...it has been like 15 years since she has seen or heard from him..anywho..she says a detective came to her house to give her a heads up as to he is in the area, and to keep her eyes peeled...yes he gave her a business card ( she said he did I have not seen it)......who else would come to your house to tell you this information?? A Sheriff? State Trooper?? Plus her boyfriend has a brother who is a Sergent in another county...and that he would not be able to find out any info about her ex from the other Law enforcement ( the detective that came to her house)..it sounds kinda reasonable...but she..well you never can really take what she says for real until you have some proof..any info would be helpful......we are very mild friends so I am not sure why she choose to tell me this....please fill me in!! Resolved Question: OMG Rev Al sharpton needs to mind his business- Is this Paris case really getting out of hands?

OMG Rev Al sharpton needs to mind his business- Is this Paris case getting out of hands? Ok this is getting way out of hands. In a short resume look. 1- Title - Allred Already Playing Race Card Over Paris (women suing for no medical treatment while in jail) Article- http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/11/allred-already-playing-race-card-over-paris/ Video- http://www.tmz.com/tmz_main_video?titleid=978988325 2- Title - The Rev Tells The Sheriff: Paris Exposed "Unfairness" (Rev gets involve with the sheriff that released Paris,he's against this) Article- http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/11/the-rev-tells-the-sheriff-paris-exposed-unfairness/ Video- http://www.tmz.com/tmz_main_video?titleid=979709791 This stories are on TMZ.com they are like the watch page of Paris in jail stories & videos. I understand that if any inmate wast treated unfair they should sued the jail for dening them medical treatment,That's not fair to anyone weather rich or poor..but what if Paris was never arrested they wouldn't sue the Jail? Why wait till now if that happened in march. I hope she gets everything she deserves for being treated unfair if it's true, but does she prefers that because she was denied medical treatment Paris is denied too??? That's not right,She should make sure this doesn't happen at all but not involve Paris or want them to treat her the same as she was. Now Rev. Is getting involve, He has no right to get involved. He said the people wanted him involved in this so he will, and is against Paris..so now he's the voice of all those wanting Paris in Jail. Why not use his time on things more important like hellooo the war? Why can't he interview the women & family suffering due to there soldiers are in Irac or the men out there, No he rather be a voice to the people in America complaining of Paris getting special treatment. This is crazy!!! Everyone is after her money, fame & power. I can't believe they use someone's "fall" to there advantage. They're envi and hate is so much that now they are not hapy that she is in jail that there is a group complaining she should not be in the medical ward that she should be in a cell..What does it matter?? She's still locked up in the medical place. She's receiving treatment! They are also mad that her 2 doctor visit her in Jail. This is getting out of control, If Paris wasn't rich they wouldn't all be after her. The rev should not be involving in this,Paris already got her sentence and is doing her time, The rev needs to be stoped immediatly. That judge try toi make a example that no matter how rich you are you are not against the law,but he did it with the wrong person. This was just a dui charge and everyone with her same charge don't spend time in jail.Even the prosecutors wife had the same charge and only got a $165 or something as a fine,NO jail time. This is unfair to Paris. Why don't the judge or Rev go after OJ simpson??? hellooooo This is setting a bad example, we are seing that if you are rich & powerfull you are going to be treated poorly by the envy of those less fortunate. It doesn't matter if Paris dint work for her money but her grand parents and parents did so that's her money too,she deserves it. They worked hard to ensure there family had everything why envi the girl for something that was inherit to her. There's a african american organization trying to get inside jail to talk to Paris so she could use her money & fame to be the voice of all those women in there in need of mentally help, sounds like a positive idea atleast they are trying to get her to help other mentally ill inmates instead of like the Rev that wants her to keep suffering.. oh but wait this is just the begining..could this get any bigger tomorrow..oh yes tomorrow mom & dad are visiting her so all the reporters are waiting and we will here others clomplaining as how they got VIP treatment visint jail instead of waiting like others do..or other complain.. I wish them the best & I hope Paris is released soon!!! This family doesn't deserved this attack from the people, They are productive, smart, successful and wonderful people..besides no one deserves this treatment. more
