Tories vow to boost support for business
David Cameron yesterday vowed that a Conservative government would not adopt "laissez-faire" policies but would beef up business support services and attract inward investment.
He attacked the British approach to luring foreign investment and said the Tories would develop proposals to improve the body charged with the task, UK Trade and Investment.

As tax forms multiply, business booms for accountants
For every Byzantine form the Internal Revenue Service adds each tax season, it seems business for Collinsville accountant James Funkhouser gets that much better."Our clients have changed so much in the past three, four years," said Funkhouser, who opened TTS Tax Services with his wife in 1980. "Our clients have more tax issues now."So confusing are the forms that small, independent tax preparers like TTS - once hard hit by big-name firms like behemoth H&R Block - have seen a steady increase in business, one so significant it's insulated them against a trove of new tax software, such as the juggernaut Turbo Tax."Some think it's just too complex," said Edwardsville accountant Ed Small, who also taught accounting at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville several years ago.He said ever-changing tax codes - an estimated 15,000 changes, for example, have been made to the 66,000-page federal tax code since the 1980s - have made do-it-yourself taxes just too difficult for some."If all you have is a W-2 and some interest, then you should be able to do your own taxes," he said. more
MINDING YOUR BUSINESS MOVERS BRIEFS
Excluding holidays, birthdays are the No. 1 everyday occasion when businesses send greeting cards to customers, according to a national consumer survey recently completed by Hallmark Business Expressions.
Combining a birthday greeting card with an offer is even more effective, with 75 percent of respondents agreeing that a card with a discount during their birthday month would make them more likely to do business with the company.
"Birthdays are a natural opportunity for businesses to reach out to their customers," said Marc Wagenheim, product marketing director for Hallmark Business Expressions. "Birthday greeting cards make a lasting impression and encourage repeat business."
Implementing a birthday greeting card program has had great results for the one retail store, Busy Bee in Springfield, Mo. more

here's the link: http://img9.imageshack.us/i/forimageshack.jpg/ i designed this and many other cards for my friend. she is a hairstylist. she said that this card makes her look wanted. i understand that. i'm unsure of what to say to her to convey my thoughts. i know what i want to tell her but i'm not sure how to put it into words what kind of card this is. it's not supposed to convey the feeling of her being a convict or an arrestee. it's artistic but i know there's more i can say - i guess i'm just not as articulate as i should be. please tell me what this art is conveying? i just don't know how to put it into words. i don't know the terminology to describe it to her. FYI - - all the information on this card is fake. i made a dummy of the real one. thanks for your time. moreResolved Question: Greeting card business help?

The Chandler City Council delayed awarding a $75,000 contract Thursday to a landscape company that was raided Wednesday on allegations of hiring illegal immigrants. The council was preparing to rubber-stamp the contract with Artistic Land Management, who already had five contracts with the city totaling $1.4 million this fiscal year, but the city's staff recommended at the council meeting to continue the item until Sept. 25. Wednesday's raid, in which 29 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested, raised questions for council members. "The first question that comes to my mind is, will they have the people power to deliver on the contract?" Councilman Bob Caccamo said. Councilman Matt Orlando said he has the same question, "illegal immigration aside." Maricopa County sheriff's officers raided two Mesa sites after receiving a tip that the business was knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. According to a sheriff's office news release, 69 of the 127 employees have discrepancies in their employment documents consistent with identity theft. Deputies seized personnel files, time cards, employee rosters and work assignments to determine if the company violated the state's employer sanctions law. The law, which took effect Jan.1, allows a judge to suspend all state licenses of any firm found to have knowingly hired an undocumented worker, and a second violation within three years results in license revocation. Sheriff Joe Arpaio said much of the work in the investigation is yet to come. The contract called for Artistic Land Management to provide plants to replace damaged and dead ones on city property such as traffic medians, right-of-ways and subsidized housing complexes. The contract would be for one year with the option to renew for four additional one-year periods. The company had contracts totaling more than $2 million the previous two years. Jose Hernandez, the company's owner, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday. http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/124355 moreResolved Question: How do you make your own modeling comp card?
I got contacted today by a modeling agency that seems interested in working with me (surprise! I just sent them 2 jpeg images for the fun of it as a joke between me and my friends and wasn't expecting anything AT ALL to happen.) I think I'm going to go for it if only to see what happens and add some variety to my otherwise spiceless life. The agency asked me to send them a "comp card" which is, I guess, a model's "business card." As an artist, and a starving one at that, I don't want to invest hundreds of dollars in a professionally produced card for a venture that probably won't work anyway. So, I've decided to produce my own using my own digital camera, printer, computer software, artistic and design skills, and a variety of outfits and looks I can concoct on my own. Does anybody know how to make an effective compcard on their own or have they done this? What should be on the card, front and back? How many pictures of head and body shot each (I actually like the way my face looks more than the rest of my awful pear shaped figure.) Would it be ok to focus more on my head and chest wearing sunglasses, hats, and jewelry? What is the typical layout on these cards? The dpi? And does anyone know a website that has more info on this? Thanks so much! moreVoting Question: a good headline for an electrician business

I am opening a small business and just need a small Black & White drawing of a cute genie to use as a symbol on business cards etc... There are lots of logo software packages online but none will let me see all the pictures before I buy. Or, if anyone has artistic ability I would pay up to 100.00 for the one I end up using. My email address is lv_tracee@yahoo.com if anyone wants to draw, scan and send in an attachment to me. Just please put Yahoo Q&A Genie in the subject line or I'll delete it thinking it's just more junk mail. Needs to not have too much detail but enough that you can tell it's a genie. Female genie's please. moreResolved Question: i have opened my business on limited capitol help?
