Business pessimism continues to grow

A new survey shows that pessimism about the general business situation in New Zealand continues to grow.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce says 64% of the thousand small to medium sized businesses surveyed think the business situation will deteriorate over the next six months.

That is nearly twice as many than in December and three times more than a year ago.

The survey also found businesses expect significantly less demand from customers here, and that interest rates will rise over the next year.

However, Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Michael Barnett says rather than sitting back and saying these are tough times, there are things businesses can do to help themselves.

Barnett says businesses need to invest in people and good marketing. more

Knox commissioners admit discussing county business in private

Four Knox County commissioners said they've recently discussed county business in private, an apparent violation of the state's Open Meetings Act, also known as the Sunshine Law.

County law director John Owings questioned the commissioners Monday night to get a six-month update on a judge's injunction after a jury last fall convicted 11 commissioners of violating the Open Meetings Act.

Current Commissioners Greg "Lumpy" Lambert, Paul Pinkston, Bob Rountree and Victoria DeFreese said they had private discussions on issues related to county business.

A fifth commissioner who's also the former chairman, Scott Moore, declined to answer.

The rest of the 15 commissioners responded that they had not discussed in private anything relating to county business. more

Rough economy disrupts business plans in Arizona

Economic developers are seeing a drop in businesses looking to relocate or expand in Arizona as the wavering economy and tighter financial streams put the brakes on corporate and capital spending.

"Everybody's kind of tightening," said Shelly Allen, assistant economic development director of Mesa. She said the East Valley city has seen some projects delayed.

Mesa is shifting its economic focus to helping existing businesses expand their operations. Allen said she has seen a dip in financial services prospects, but the aviation sector is still strong.

Richard Mulligan, economic development director of Chandler, noted a drop-off in the business and financial service sectors. He also said some development and construction projects are being postponed or taking more time to get done. more

i have been advised on bankruptcy but feel i could if cut corners afford £200 per month for an iva ,i dont know much about them or who would be best to go through, the total debt is £42000 mainly credit cards bankruptcy seems the end as although no equity in my house i fear loosing it,this was all caused by my small business failing after 9 years and i am in the uk..thanks to all who can answer.. more

Resolved Question: whats it like working for a dept collecting business?

i took one of those courses through the mail on how to be a detective, and i think i would be better than the averge person at tracking people down even if they dont want to be found, with so many people running up there credit cards,and people just spending money they dont have it seems like dept collecting might be a good job to have. you would allways find work. how does one get started in this line of work ? any tips ? is it all office work are is it some feild work or can you make it what you want ? how much money can you make ? i no the banks sell the dept to dept collectors and then the collectors get the profits,it sound lucritive,and working inside ant so bad when its raining, and it even seems like a good job for husband and wife. can any one tell me about dept collecting ? have you ever been tracked down by a dept collector how did they find you, how did they collect. how much money do you make do they pay by the hour or what ? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this idea to bring down the price of gas??

I was E-mailed this idea. I thought that I would pass it along and see what y"all thought! 1. Stop buying gas at the big chain gas stations. 76, Shell, Chervron, Etc. Only buy from the local little gas stations! 2. If you have gas cards/ credit cards at these stations, call ant cancle them. When they ask why ( and I did this with mine) tell them you refuse to pay there prices and you don't want to give them your business at the prices they are charging. You can always reapply later. 3. From now on only buy 10.00 worth of gas at a time. Now yes, you will have to fill up twice a week or so. But, if the gas need is so low, they will have to lower the prices!! ************************************************************ What do you think??? I live in Redding, Ca. And the cheapest gas price is $ 3.19 a gallon. These prices are crazy!! If you like the idea, let other people know about it through E-mail!! more
