Round-up from Thursday's business pages

L: Quote, Profile, Research) said that it could not rule out a sale of the business as it revealed on Wednesday that it had failed to raise nearly 500 million pounds of fresh funding. Peter Redfern, chief executive, said that the company would continue to talk to its institutional investors and to potential backers and insisted that there was no short-term cashflow problem. Taylor Wimpey will not breach its lending covenant until February, but analysts say that there is a danger that the group could collapse at that point. Shares slumped 42 per cent to 35 pence.

GE executive: Reorg will simplify conglomerate

John Rice, vice chairman of the Fairfield-based GE and president of the newly formed GE Technology Infrastructure unit, said cutting GE to four businesses from six is a logical move.

"It helps simplify the company from the outside in," Rice said following a congressional hearing in Hartford. "It's an easier way for investors to view us and understand what we do."

Rice made his remarks following a public hearing in Hartford called by the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. He, former United Technologies Corp. Chief Executive George David and Yale University environmental law professor Dan Esty were there to speak about the impact of climate change on businesses.

Afterward, Rice also talked about the reorganization, which was announced Friday. more

LETTER1 Yes is NEW maxed out laptop IS NOT need to bid , the price is $1000 fix we will close the deal under eBay and you will be 100% protected no PayPal because the withdraw limit is 500USD per week. I cant use paypal because it said I'm over my limited i don't want to sound stupid but i don't understand why i cant use paypal they only gave me a 2000.00 dollar limit for month my credit card has way more than that on it. I usually pay the products with cash money. Western Union is the fastest way to conclude a payment! So... all this deal will be done safe and legal through eBay. Just give me your full name and address.I will send this info's to eBay and they will contact you with an invoice. you will see there in the invoice step by step how to complete this purchase.. eBay account name: ... First name: ... Last name: ... Address: ... City: ... State: ... Zip code: ... Country: ... Quantity..... LETTER 2 I TOLD YOU THAT I ONLY WORK WITH EBAY IF YOU THINK THAT IS A SCAM , GO AND BUY IT FROM STORES LETTER 3(LOLS) In normal circumstances Paypal is my favorite way of receiving the payment but unfortunately for the moment i have some troubles with my paypal account and i am forced not to accept this method at this time. I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is as legitimate as it could possible be. I have a family, 2 kids, that means I would not risk anything to put them in danger or something like that for that kind of money, I have a career, I am a person of honor and a serious seller and I don't see any reason for not respecting you as I did with the other customers, Why should I be different with you ??? It makes no sense... I earned my money through hard work in this life and I don't force you to do anything that you won't like, at this price I can find easy another customer. I can guarantee you that you will be more than satisfied and be sure we will do more business in the future. I won't risk my career, my freedom and my future for anything in the world!!! I would rather close this deal with other person than to know that you'll be very stressed hoping that I am a honest person, until you receive your package. Your peace of mind is a lot more important than this deal!!! Building a long-lasting relationship with my customers means building trust. Advertising and marketing efforts create interest and will initially pave the way, but the results are the core of my success in this tough business environment. To be competitive on a highly dynamic market I must find new ways of improving quality of my products/services and reduce costs. Western Union payment services and UPS delivery services are an excellent way to achieve a high level of proffessional with a great impact on the results of our trade. Please take into consideration my past experience with different commercial services and the advantage gained from avoiding commercial charges and hidden costs. These are not neglijable aspects of our transaction and they allow me to offer you excellent products and services bellow the market value. If you decide not to go through with it there is no problem. Thank you for your time and interest. Whatever you decide I wish you good luck. more

Resolved Question: Is OREGS.COM safe and legit? Electronics at radically low prices?

Oregs.com is selling an apple laptop for half the price as anywhere else. Obviously, that makes me wary. But I have searched ripoffreport.com and slickdeals.net and they are not mentioned at either site. I have searched for and read every kind of review I can dig up. I googled "oregs scam" and "oregs fraud" with no results. The customer reviews I *have* found (see below) virtually all say that the merchandise was great but the delivery was slow. (Except for a rare case or two in which the delivery was fast.) I saw one report somewhere that a customer paying with paypal was told that that would not be accepted due to paypal fraud, and was asked to deliver cash via some other transaction. However, their site says they accept credit cards. So, if you don't receive what you ordered, you can have the charge reversed by your credit card company. http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Oregs.com.206-984-0803/review/list http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=9673907 http://www.merchantcircleseattle.com/hub/search?q=oregs&domain=merchantcircleseattle.com I AM confused by the answer given to the answers.yahoo.com question "Can you tell me if a website called OREGS.COM is legitimate? They sell electronics at a very discount price.?" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100301191010AATEu5T&r=w&pa=AptqD2bwHTHc6OmEYqA2uRAxX__Sna_W3XbFc1PnmLCmIQ--&paid=voted The answer given was: "scam :) Source(s): http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Oregs.com.206-984-0803/review/list http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=9673907" While the answer says "scam :)", it only goes on to list two web sites full of satisfied customer reviews. Voting Question: I'm being held here in the states by my husband and I want to go home to Canada.?

Now before you all start jumping up and down, yelling, 'You've got to be kidding!' or 'Must be your own fault!' let me explain how I got here. I'm a fifty-five year old Canadian woman. I've been married for the last 30 years or so to my second husband, have three daughters and 2 grandsons. Two of the girls live near me in the United States. My eldest is in Canada, with her husband and their boys. I have been here for twenty years, moving where my husband's job moved. We had 2 farms in Canada. We went into business with my son-in-law and eventually lost everything. The business went under last year; mad cow, recession etc. My husband had my son-in-law using tax right offs up there, while he opened a Business account and wrote off the farms. He's a Marine Manager and makes a hell of a good salary. He blamed the son-in-law, the governments, me, everyone but hime. I understood what was happening and felt I owed everything to him, for he had put up with me all those years. After seven years of marriage, and thanks to my husband (he saw a story about it on tv and said 'hey that's you and your crazy father) I went to my doctor, who diagnosed me and a sent me to a psychiatrist. I am bi-polar. I accepted this and wanted more than anything for the meds and therapy to work. After years of therapy, I became well, balanced and on my meds. That hasn't changed. My husband calls me crazy everytime I stand up to him. What I didn't know at the time was that my husband is a controller. He does the shopping, decides where we are to spend every week end, tells me when to go to bed and when to get up. He is a born, British subject, a nationalized Canadian citazen and now, an American citazen. He has me down here, no green card, no citizenship, and a Canadian passport due to run out in August. I don't know where to begin searching for help. I left him once before and spent a year living on my own, filing for divorce, in Canada. Then I found out I have no rights, at least with me up there and him living down here in Texas. I did not know he was going to leave me with no way to get home. I told him I wasn't coming down to be his housekeeper. I was wrong on both counts. I have no rights to file for divorce down here. I'm down here illegally. He has told the government nothing about my being here. He has, in fact, scolded me many times that it was my fault I had no green card as I believed a border guard who told me I had to spend six months and one day down in the states, less than six months in Canada. We had two farms in Canada and I had my own home and yet I gave up my card. Of course, to my husband, I'd been foolish and should have just lied. Though a florist, I have no job because I have no green card. I have no money except for the credit card he allows me to use, always near the limit, which he can access and watch every transaction I make. Yes, I do have family in Canada. Do you know how difficult it is to ask them to help when I know they don't have any money? I know I should find a way, but I don't know how. I'm beginning to believe him when he says 'i'm the crazy one.' Yes, I have a pschyitrist down here (Texas) and a family doctor, but he is so good at making himself the victem and I'm so tired of being called crazy. When I was in Canada last, two of my daughters told doctors how my husband had scary anger issues. They were wasting their breath. Now that you've read this far, I don't need to know how I've made the wrong choices. I just want to know how to go home. Any kind of info would help. more

Resolved Question: What would this form of government/lack thereof be?...?

I already know it is like communism but I think this particular idea of it might be called something else. 1.)everyone is equal regardless of race or age or religion the only determining factor in acquiring a job is ability if you are either Strong enough or smart enough or both you get the job on a first come first served basis and cash is eliminated as currency for Business stores/groceries etc are credit based and cards are also eliminated either fingerprint 7/or retinal scan no rfid chips because dumb asses think that's the mark of the beast but cash will still be used for interpersonal trade such as prostitution or in other situations where the thumbprint idea would not work such as collection plates or poker in a home you take the cash to the bank and it is credited if you want it to buy food at a restaurant you can creditt cash you have and much like direct deposit you work for money and it is credited to your account. 2.)If you are hurt or unable to work a strenuous job you get a living wage stipend this is taken from the surplus of the workers that don't spend all of there paycheck(in another way to say it giving to charity is not a choice it just happens.) 3)medicine and schooling is free within limits if you go to colledge and study a particular thing and later get a job in that field then the state pays for it if you study but don't get a job the state takes the cost out of 1/2 the pay from the job you do get and if you can't live on the other half they suppliment food rations (like food pantries today)with the current fda approved diet they give you stuff they have record you didn't buy with the 1/2 of your pay you do get. 4)age of concent is exactly that when the partners both say yes and no one is hurt. 5)any drug that you can't overdose on is free. 6) as said previously medicine is free but I also said to an extent if it is cureable they cure it if it's a fatal disease they let you live and help you out but if you want to/ask to die they provide euthenasia for you. 7)voting is obligatory there is no penalty for which way you vote but everyone is made to that way you can't bitch about it if your guy wins. 8)you must live with someone for a year beforehand if you want to marry them. 9)the government will assign you a job if you ask for one if you are big stong and dumb they give you demolition if you are big strong ans smart you are the supervisor smart and weak you get a computer or filing job small and stupid you get the jobs they give retards.(cause they get the stipend thing mentioned earlier unless they want to work then they get a job accourding to there ability. 10)clothing shall be free but if you are in need of free clothes you must accept a uniform like a jumpsuit. 11)If you/your family already owns a farm and you can sustain yourself your share is divided amount the rest you can get an odd job when you need.want something and get it on that or you can barter your produce or your farm can be and industrial operation and you can get your credits that way. O.K. now ask questions about certain situations and how my system would cover them I'll answer with additional details check back and edit your answer accourdingly thank you for your timeto answer the question 1 it would be lead by a brain trust of the greatest intellectual minds and artistic people so that way it would be balanced The fingerprint scanner needs to sence that the finger is alive and attached to a bodyIt would be kinda like england with a royal family that creates laws and a government that desiminates them down to the people. The ruling/governmental body would be elected rule for life then when they die there is a presidential race and the people vote and that person rules for life and when they die people vot new guy it is kinda like how the pope system is only it is all the people not just the important ones the braintrust and the government would be two seperate entities but they govt. would be influenced by the braintrust and then the people would vot on the ideas they supply the presidents main job would be as ambassador and tiebreaker when votes are too close to call he is the desider he also has the authority to make laws (the people vote on them)and when they agree the law is put into affect if the people dissagree it is placed in an idea file and saved for a later date.Basically (I am calling him president but actually a king kinda) The king Rules and makes laws the people vote and it is put into effect.Under him (but with more power in practice less in title)is a group of great minds and great hearts to create and collaborate on ideas to help people out new sciences of agriculture and metalergy and medicine etc. then under them the individual what america would call the guy that runs the state I beleave senator they would take the news down to there town the governers of the cities they would in turn give the info to the mayors of towns and they would each hold an assembly in there respective towns and tell the people the news if no new laws were made that week there would be town business such as marriag announcements or births or deaths whatever happens to be local news that week sowe don't have newspapers to save paper.unless there is a 3rd answer before i get back and the question goes to voting give it to brandon.if there are only the 2 give it him more don't vote any. more

Voting Question: How do you put a UPS Shipping Calculator on your website?

I am starting an online business and I will need to ship all over the world. I need to put a UPS Shipping Calculator on my website so I can charge them the appropriate shipping rate. I am using paypal to accept credit cards on my site, which I'm sure will make the process that much harder. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. If there is some html I could insert into my home page, that would be great. All I've found so far are websites that have the html code or a script, but they want to charge you for it. I need something that will definitely work. Preferably for free, but if not, at least something cheap. Thanks again! more

Resolved Question: My mom favors my sister so much. .?

OK so here is how it began. (long but please read). My mom was going on a trip to New York and my sister and I were going to have the house to ourselves for a week. We have had some big parties in the past so my mom decided that if we were good we would each get a reward! My sisters reward: new phone. Mine: my tanning membership back. Well let me give you some background info. My sister is 17 (18 on January 16, 2010) has no job, never had one, my mom pays for her Lexus AND credit card bills. She is at a continuation school for ditching and bad grades. She has too low of a GPA to get into ANY California University so is going to community college for 2 years then transferring (so she says..). My sister always comes home wasted at 3 am and my mom just doesn't care because she is sleeping. (and ive even told her she has had friends drive her car FOR HER because she is so drunk, but she doesnt care..) Background info on me: I am 15 years old. I just switched to Online School until my Junior Year to catch up on credits. I will admit im not the best student, but I am an average student and not behind in my classes now. I dont have a debit , credit card. . nada. NOW; here's my problem. . My mom gets back from her trip. We dont have a party so we both get our rewards, right? WRONG!!! My sister gets her Palm Pixi.............AND AN IPOD TOUCH!!!!!!!!! What do I get???? NOTHING!!!!!! Because I dont "do enough online school everyday". AND, to top it off, when I told my mom I wanted my tanning MEMBERSHIP back, she assumed i meant a couple sessions. WTF!!!! (ive had a membership before so this its like why would it be a big deal..) My mom tells me I "dont do enough online school" but my sister is ALWAYS late to school (im talking hours) And just last week missed 2 days and just today she tried not going because her "eye was red". NOW it gets WORSE! : My sister applies at a job at a tanning salon (where she has already applied before and not been accepted.....) but this time she met a girl who JUST got hired who can apparently "get her a job" (turns out my sister didnt get the job AGAIN). And so my mom gets HER a tanning membership because apparently, "it looks better if you already tan there". By this point i was FURIOUS. I feel so betrayed. I dont understand why my mother always favors my sister over me. . I have tried talking to her about it COUNTLESS times and it turns into HUGE arguments. She says the same thing.. "WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT YOUR SISTER!" "THIS ISNT ABOUT HER". And.. "ITS NOT OF YOUR BUSINESS!" I just dont know what to do anymore. I cant take being around my sister until shes TWENTY because my mom will NOT kick her out. I dont know how to talk to my mom about this? PLEASE HELPPPP :'(Not sure if I got my question across; How can I talk to my mom about my sister getting ALL the stuff (phone, ipod touch, AND tanning) when I got nothing? (and we BOTH didnt have a party.. so its not like one deserves it more :/) more

Resolved Question: stolen goods and who keeps the goods?

this is for my canadian law course. Brown, a university student, owned a small automobile which he desired to sell for $800. He placed an advertisement in the university newspaper offering the vehicle for sale, and included his telephone number for further information. A few days later, he received a telephone call from a man who identified himself as Mr. Green. Green asked Brown a number of questions concerning the car, and then expressed a desire to examine the vehicle. A meeting was arranged for later that evening, and Brown gave green the opportunity to test drive the automobile. Green agreed to purchase the vehicle for $800 and offered Brown a personal cheque bearing the name "R. Green" as payment. Brown was reluctant to accept the cheque without additional identification, and suggested the two men meet the next day at Brown's bank to conclude the transaction. Green explained that doing so would be impossible, as he was leaving town on business that night. Instead, he offered a driver's license and a number of credit cards bearing the name "R. Green" as evidence of his identity. He offered to leave his credit cards with Brown as security. With some hesitation and concern, Brown signed the blank motor vehicle registration and handed Green the papers necessary to transfer the ownership. In return he received the cheque and the credit cards which he agreed to hold until Green's return. The next day, Brown presented the cheque at Green's bank only to discover the cheque had been forged. A customer of the bank whose name was "R. Green" had apparently lost his wallet sometime earlier, and the wallet contained the cheque book as well as the credit cards and driver's license. In the meantime, the purchaser of the automobile, posing as Brown, sold the vehicle to Smith for $500, and then promptly disappeared. A few weeks later, Smith wrote a letter to Brown asking if he might have the owner's manual for the vehicle, and at that point, Brown demanded the return of his vehicle. Smith refused to return it. He maintained that it was now registered in his name as a result of the transaction which, from his point of view, was a legitimate purchase from the person who possessed registration documents for the car. Brown brought an action against Smith for the return of the vehicle. Discuss the points of law which are raised in this case, and indicate how you think a court might adjudicate on the matter. You may discuss the question with your peers. I know it's a bit lengthy, but it's a completely common situation (I just had a friend of mine have a similar thing happen to him in his store with some product he bought) so I thought it appropriate for a bonus question. Take your time, follow the flow of the assets and payments through carefully and work it out. Good luck! more

Resolved Question: I want to go self employed and deliver Alcohol and Tobacco...?

I am starting a business which involves delivering Alcohol and Tobacco. Do I need a Personal License or do I need a Premises License? Or both? I have a feeling its both. What are the processes in obtaining both of these licenses, for example, I know a Premises License involves paying a non-refundable £100 but would I have to go to court or pass 'some sort of' test' in order to obtain one? Do both of these licenses cover selling Tobacco as well as Alcohol? I would also like to set up, through a website, a pay by debit/credit card facility and really need to know what the best way of doing this as my business needs to accept cash as well and 'Cards' (People at parties do run out of money when they live in the Country haha). Thanks very much for anyone's constructive help & thank you for your time. Jono_not_Bono xPs...Haha, I can handle drunks and pain in the ass customers. I spent 4 years of my life in the Parachute Regiment (Army). As for being ripped off, that's why I'm thinking it pay through PayPal. If it is Cash of Delivery, I won't be getting the Alcohol out of the van. more

Resolved Question: do you trust your bank?

Jul 09, 2009 -- Bank fees on the rise again Fees are on the rise again as banks try to make up for revenue they've lost to bad debt write-offs. In fact, three-quarters of bank revenue on supposedly free checking accounts now comes from overdraft fees. That's why it's called "fee checking" in industry lingo! One of the most controversial practices among the giant banks concerns their overdraft systems. They won't allow you to opt out of the loop where they approve debit card transactions knowing you're overdrawn just to fee you. Bank of America has now increased the maximum amount of its overdraft charges per day to $350. Don't adjust your computer screen…that's $350, according to The Washington Post. If you're in danger of running in the red with your account, then you need to rethink everyday spending. Go old-school -- live a cash-only lifestyle and swear off the debit card. You might also want to fire your giant bank and take your business to a smaller community bank or a credit union. Unfortunately, Clark won't be able to answer any questions submitted via commenting. If you have a question, please try posting it to our message boards. Add your comment Avg. rating: N/A bank fees What has biten me is our checking account, 22 years old with same bank, same address, nothing has changed, and we had a problem, a payment done on line for $1100 appeared not to post, so I did it again, I called the bank and told them to not honor both if both were presented for payment as only one should have, (same amount, same debtor also for over 4 years), well both got drafted out, and we were continuing as usual with our debit card, making purchases, even purchases for $3.00 and less, and every single one we were charged a $35.00 overdraft fee, and were not even aware of this. Well not until nearly 9 days later when pulled up at ATM, went to make $100 withdrawal and the receipt showed a -$746. balance. I was like what? so I presented it again, thinking it was an error, same thing, and to really take an extra bite, each time I presented the card into the machine was a $35.00 fee, twice for the decline and the balance check. I went into our bank, and was told well we are just the small branch in this little town we cant make decisions to reverse any charges, I asked for the Corporate bank and was told that our branch manager would talk with them but she didn't think we would get any help because it was all computer generated. Well 3 days later and I went back in, and she told me, no the Corporate Bank said no help, all charges stand. Because we had the $1,000 protection they continued to pay, but charged us the draft each and every time., over $1300 in overdraft fees. By SCgirl @ 09/25/09 04:57:28 PMreport abuse * Overdraft Changes The first thing I would like to say is the majority of overdraft/insufficient fund fees come from the customer not keeping track of their own account. The customer should always know how much they have in their accounts. If you know you have $50 don't spend $75 and write a check for $100. That is common sense. The next thing is that a major bank I work for is making drastic changes to the overdraft process that will please many people. I'm unable to expand but I'm sure Clark will explain when he reads about the changes. By Personal Banker @ 09/23/09 09:13:25 AMreport abuse * BoA Transaction Ordering to Maximize Fees I've been bitten by this several times in the past few months. I normally keep pretty close track of what's spent and how much we have left, but sometimes mistakes happen. I understand that. I accept responsibility for that. What I do not understand is how they can justify re-ordering transactions to go from largest to smallest rather than chronological order. I've had reps tell me that it's "for my convenience," which is utter hogwash, in my opinion. Typically, I have one transaction that should've gone into the red. Not with Bank of America - they re-order it so that I wind up with multiple fees, instead of just one. I'm going to follow Clark's advice from the other night and go to my branch manager and ask him to stop this madness and refund the fees. Even if they do, I still plan on jumping to a credit union at my earliest opportunity. By Steve Scott @ 09/18/09 06:07:47 PMreport abuse * Bank of America fees I am outraged that Bank of America is riping me and others off. One of my account was overdrawn by $10. I was assessed the $35 OD fee on 8/5/09. So why did I get charged another $35 OD fee on 8/11/09? I called into the bank and was told that since it was not brought up to par within the 5 days, I was charge an additional fee. I have other accounts in other banks and I have NEVER encounter any such nonsense. Bank of America makes sure that the consumer pays for their short falls. Resolved Question: APR increase....can I reject the new agreement?

When a credit card raises your APR, you always have the option to not accept the new terms of the agreement and close the account right? I was wondering because ALL of my credit cards have increased my interest rates over the past year for no reason. One said it was after they reviewed my credit reports, the most recent one says they need to raise my APR to prime plus 11.99% "to be responsive to the business and economic environment". Usually the notice states in tiny print that you can reject the terms by letter but this one does not. more

I know many people claim to be victims of Identity theft, but what are the different things a person could do with only this information. They cannot open a credit card, because you have to use your home address when applying. They check it against your credit, and will only mail it in your name to your home. And even if a person found a way around this, you cannot use it until you receive it in the mail, and it can’t be mailed to a rented mailbox because it has to be in my name, and they only accept mail in the renters name or business, and at best they would have to mail it to a home which would lead to an arrest. Voting Question: Should I accept credit cards?

I'm opening a small bookstore in my home town, population 13,000. I'm wondering if I should accept credit cards upon opening or wait to see how my business is doing. An owner of an antique store across the street from me told me he'd process my credit cards for me, if the customer is willing to walk across the street to do so. The cost of processing credit cards plus a 3 year contract has me thinking I should wait and see. What do you think? Would you be put off to walk across the street to have your credit card processed? more

Resolved Question: Do i have legal rights? please read Marines/military members?

My friend and I went to the SMP (recreation center). This guy approaches us and tells us about his college program. He is a great "B"S"er and tells how his little CDs and book will help you for the CLEP test which is equal to a college class, but not all colleges accept CLEP tests. the program was $2500 to be paid in allotments, and i thought to myself why doesnt this program use the tuition assistance i have, but didnt put thought after that. Then he says a "free laptop for your education", i personally didnt care about the laptop, i just was just excited to get some college under my belt, and not fall behind my peers who are in college. So i started signing the papers. I asked once again am i paying for the laptop, and he said no you are paying for the books. im pretty sure the contract says otherwise though, I already knew it was a piece of sschit laptop thats $200. So i later realized through the Education Resource Center that it was a scam because military members should be getting their education free. This guys business card has numbers, i call them never picks up,i saw one of the guys involved in the scam his buddy, being pissed off, wanting to beat the shit out of him but played it off, ask him if i can return everything because "i couldnt afford it" due to my credit debt, car, and tv i just purchased" and he asked me stuff like is the computer open and i said yes, then i pleaded that i do not want to cause problems with your company, then he said he'll try to do something about it. I asked this guy if i payed for laptop or books and he said laptops and books were free, and i asked him for a reliable number, and he gives it to me, in the next 2 days i contact him and theres a message "this is military laptop financing serving our military members" then it goes on to ring but doesnt pick up. That got me even more angry because it said nothing about the college info i was given, it was just straight up "military laptop financing" paying $2500 for a $200 laptop. These guys are usually here 2-3 times a week so I'm gonna play it off still to see if i get something, because i told him i cannot afford and he said he'll do something about it, maybe even a deal at least even though i will still be getting ripped off. I was thinking this was a legit program because it was in the Rec Center and the workers had not kicked them out or anything. Its a scam, and my other 2 friends signed up for it too. The guy i dealt business with is a fraud, "former Navy" "BBB" logo, and always voice mail for his cell phone, his business telephone and fax dont exist, but like i said i met up with his buddy and hopefully he should be here tomorrow and hopefully pick up his stupid "military financing phone" because i made sure it worked and his phone rang. Theyre usually here 2-3 times a week. So once everything is settled wether i get something back or not ill let these guys have it and make a scene in the rec center. Authorities know and i guess they didnt do anything about it, so they should be here tomorrow or monday. Boot move i know, i learned, and please i learned my lesson, i dont want to hear negative things, in comes my question, make your case of what you read from my story. do i have legal rights? could it be fraud? please and thank you. more

Resolved Question: Husband left 2 days ago-christian marriage?

I have a husband who has been in the USA since age 15 and is a citizen. He was a workaholic and self employed until we got married. We moved to a new state, then I told him to work from home and take it easy since we could make it on one income. We have known each other for 10 years and have been married for 4. He has always had social issues, but I accepted him the way he was. He hesitated to marry me, bec. he said, he knew how he was. I realized he had some issues and was willing to accept them provided we worked together on whatever we both needed to learn in the relationship. He raised a son alone from his previous married, due to an unfaithful wife who died after having the child. However, he keeps running back to his country to stay with him mom whenever he is upset about anything. He grew up in severe poverty and his mom remains this way. I invited her to come live with us, but he tells me I may mistreat her. Most of the time it's my son who has a high functioning form of autism and isn't his bio. father. To make a long story short this is the 3rd time in 15 months that has done this and says, I need a break and have no patience for you or your son. Then he grabs his bag, which has only bare necessities and leaves all other items in the house. When we got married 4 years ago, he didn't want anything at all in our names together. At first he was helping me with a business from home, while I went to work everyday. He calls everything my house, my accounts, my money, when it's suppose to be ours together. First he said it was bec. he had bad credit, then he said he wanted it to be easy for me when I didn't want him anymore. He only has one credit card and didn't even spend money on himself. Not even for foods he wanted. The second time he left abruptly, he called from the airport crying. I told him to come home, but he kept going despite the fact that the night before I was chasing him to come back, bec. I was worried about him, and in the process lost our baby to a miscarriage. When I told him to come back, he kept coming. Then he wanted to come back to work it all out. We went several places for counseling, including a christian retreat that was over 100 hours. He seemed to be angry when I shared my feelings and personal counseling failed since the counselor's couldn't get him to share and recieve feelings. As soon as the course was over, he left again. He tells me I am not happy with him, despite the fact that he makes me so happy. I've never cursed at him, cheated him, or asked him to leave. I feel so bad that he is doing this. I love him adn want to complete the commitment I made to God in church when I married him. The day he left, he called me from NY right before he got on his international flight. He was crying and so was I. I told him to come home, but he said he had to go to work. There is no job for him over there, but he says he has better communication skills with the people there and feels out of place asking people here. He said, it shouldn't take more than 6 months, he doesn't think. I know this sounds dumb, but he is the most attentive, loving man in the world. He is great help at home, but doesn't speak to my son. My son does have a behavior problem, and if he gets too mean with him, I object. He doesn't however worry about him and helps with custodial things. My fear is that I am becoming a yo-yo and being eaten up by what feels like an emotional cancer. When I come home from work, I never know if I will find him there. I am far from perfect, since I can be a nag, sometimes complain, and have been a grouch at times. Any ideas? more

Voting Question: Is General Growths purchase policy on mall gift cards legal? They don't take cash for gift card purchases.?

This evening me and a friend were walking around a shopping mall in Southern California and saw a big sign near the mall customer service booth. The sign said as of December 1st,2008 cash will not be accepted for the purchase of mall gift cards. For your convienence we will only accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express to purchase mall gift cards. While me nor my friend has no intent in purchasing an GCP(General Growth Properties) gift card we were both very upset at this business decision. The mall customer service booth will accept cash for gift card holders, newpapeers, lottery tickets, faxes and photo coppies. This makes no sense. At Rite Aid and CVS all gift cards such as American Express Gift Cards, Visa Gift cards and Starbucks as well as gap gift cards must only be purchased with cash due to credit card fruad. CVS and Rite Aid have cash only purchase policy for gift cards. Personally if I'm going to give a gift card I like to pay with cash. I prefer to pay cash for just about everything except for major electronic purchases, online purchases and major car repairs. Why would GCP(General Growth Properties) refuse cash for their mall gift cards? My friend with his poor credit can't get a checking account or even a credit card. He cashes his paychecks at grocery stores and check cashing places. My friend thinks general growths gift card purchase policy descriminates against poor people who must use cash for purchases. I think General Growths new policy is rediculus and absurd. Here are some articles about General Growths new policy http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog.php?view=6454http://www.turnto10.com/jar/news/local/article/no_cash_allowed_for_providence_mall_gift_cards/7289/On an American dollar it states" This Note is Legal Tender for all debts, Public and Private" Hopefully we won't see 50% of stores in restuarants in the United States start to no longer accept cash. That would be horrible. more

Are you looking for a reliable web hosting company to get your business website online? If so, you should know that besides the common features which all web hosting services provide for their customers, a business web host must offer two additional important features. These two features are mentioned below: Shopping cart: With Shopping Cart, you can accept PayPal® and credit cards via your secure site. This software allows online shopping customers to place items in the cart. SSL Certificate: People are getting smart about online security. Today most of them are looking for the padlock icon and “https” prefix in the address bar of their browser before submitting personal information online. SSL Certificate helps your customers do their online transactions under a secure service. If your Web site doesn’t have an SSL Certificate, visitors may leave before making a purchase or creating an account. more

Resolved Question: How far can credit card company reps go as far as hassling you about personal information?

I mean nothing too big but if you choose to switch jobs, don't have one currently, feel like using the card more for cash advances/balance transfers over just regular purchases, or change your email adress, phone numbers, and what not... we all go through different chances, but do you always have to keep updating everything with the credit card companies and what not, or....do you just have to update the basics like number/e-mail change? I feel like some of them are SO intruding, and ask you questions about your present marital status, if your own/rent/etc/other of your house changed, if your employment changed,...why I only choose to list my home number as a contact, and why I don't put a business or a cell there. It's just too much. How much is too much, when it comes to the questions they ask, and how much is just normal? I just feel like credit card companies are turning into mommy and daddy and want to watch your every move. Could they cancel you out or what not, or somehow you can get on bad standing if you lost your job or you're switching jobs or moving from place to place? I always thought, once you're accepted of a card, you're there, unless you screw up, or something by not paying. It's annoying because A)I don't want to list my work/business numbers on there and have them call me there; that's so rude, and it's not an important matter. Credit cards shouldn't bother you at work. also B)Life changes all the time. one year you can be here, another year there. So do we really have to let them in on our every single move? It's REALLY annoying. more

Resolved Question: What is the least expensive way to accept Credit Cards?

Voting Question: Starting a campus based business?

I am currently a college student (2nd year) and I was thinking about starting a business on campus. its all most kinda complicated here is the concept: -I would sell sandwich (i.e. sub like) -Pizza -Drinks -All natural Smoothies -Deserts (i.e. cookies maybe ice cream(Ben & Jerry's)) It would also be a delivery service (anywhere on campus & surrounding campus apartments) ...And regarding ice cream I can get 15lbs(bulk) of any Ben & Jerry's ice cream for $27...I can also get 16lbs(bulk) of yogurt and sorbets made by Ben & Jerry's for the smoothies for only $27...One bulk can make over 30-40 smoothies.(i worked for Ben & Jerry's for 3 years, that is how I can get such a good deal) I would also accept credit cards (through Paypal) I have heard of other students at other students starting this type of business on their campus such as in Dayton the students set up and sell midnight snacks from 11pm-3am (which are subs and such) and another school sell's cookies and desserts and they delivery. I thought it would be a good idea to combine the three......Give me your thoughts more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know of any banks or credit cards that will allow me to open a checking account?

I had a bad debt experience from a rental car company that paid my payment to my bank a week too late which put me on chex systems. Therefore, my bank will not allow me to open a checking account. I would like to apply for a car loan or a mortgage but they always ask "Do you have a checking account and I don't because of this. The rental car company apologizes for taking out extra money out of my account which made my account go too low but the bank says they won't accept apology. Is there anyone out there who knows of a bank, credit card company, credit union or etc. that would allow me to open a checking account? I would greatly appreciate it. I thank all of you in advance for your kindness and your business advice as well. more

Resolved Question: Why a lot of american people are so closed mind?

From France and the whole word, american people looks like so closed mind. They never traveled aboard and they never try to understand foreign cultures. That's why their foreign policy is so bad? Because a lot of people in the wold hate the US governement (me too!). You know that the world is composed of more than 197 countries? I saw many reports about american evangelist who believe in creationism and in abortion sin (whereas in France, the abortion is the legitime right of a woman to control her body). How is it possible for you to held weapons? Do USA is the country of savage people? Why dont you vote for the ban of weapons at your home? If criminals has not weapons, you dont need weapons too... and why not count on Police to protect you? Do you really need to get weapons to defend yourself? Because in Europe, that's very ridiculous. How your governement is able to let a woman like Palin make her campiagn on God believes? That's a shame in the 21st century? USA is like Iran with his mollahs...your mollahs are evangelist republican and they are seen like dangerous people here... Why dont you have any social plan to save your health care security? The first right of a human is to have access to health care and that is banned from your constitution... So you authorise weapons but no health care... what kind of constitution you have? Dont you think that is a shame? I think that the shame is that you need to present your credit card before to be welcome in a hospital in america but in France, that's free... Dont you think you should change it to be accepted as a great civilisation? Why in USA, you hate so much muslim people? Because of the 11 september 2001? Why a country like USA should not be a laic country like France where religion is not showed in school and in public places (no veil, no cross,...)? That's your business but i would like to question you what you think about all of these? Give me your opinion. Eternal Persia (7000 years proud civilisation)@sophie : so let me explain your view...@sophie : please explain you view...@madzia : you say closed mindED... ok thank you, i can improve my english...@grey : you mean that you dont live in a democracy? more

Resolved Question: Wouldn't this have been better than what President Bush actually said?

I just read the entire text of President Bush's address last night and I grade his effort "D" at best. He did not make the case that needs making. Here's the real skinny and what I think President Bush should have said and one -- My Fellow Americans: The annual yield on treasury bills fell yesterday to 44 basis points. at times yesterday, it was negative. This shows that companies and people with more money than FDIC insurance covers aren't willing to deposit it at the banks, nor are they willing to buy commercial paper with it. Without funds from deposits or commercial paper, the banks don't have the money to make ordinary loans to their regular customers, even if the regular customer's credit is good. I'm thinking of the local grocery store that borrows on Friday to pay their employees and repays the bank each Monday from the weekend's receipts. Without funds available to the banks, they can't make even good loans to regular customers. Many people think the bank's executives and managers should be fired for making all these bad mortgage loans and thus they want to deny this bailout program until the banks are being run better. America does not have the time to wait for that to happen. Booting the bank managers would require us to let the banks fail first. It is illegal to simply take over the banks unless and until they stop functioning. If the banks stop functioning, America's payments mechanism would stop. That means that your credit cards, your debit card, and your atm card would not work. No one would take your check because they couldn't know if your bank will be able to pay it tomorrow. If that happened, you would not be able to buy groceries or gas or anything unless you had actual cash. This would cause the total volume of sales to plunge, perhaps to only 1/3rd or less of regular levels. And then employees would be laid off, and every business that couldn't withstand a huge decline in sales would go bankrupt. If you and your extended family has four workers in all, I'm talking about one of them losing his job and a second being told her wages are now 1/3rd less than what they were, or she loses her job too. This is what we must prevent -- America's payments mechanism must continue to operate. If this means that we have to accept that some executives and managers who deserve to lose their jobs get to keep them because they are also the payments mechanism, that is a price we simply have to pay. Loans whose value is unknown must be reduced to less than the amount of capital each and every bank has on hand. Since the financial markets have already shown that they will not provide more capital to the banks, someone has to remove the questionable loans from the banks' assets. This is what the program my administration has proposed will do. And the only entity with enough size to do that for the entire economy is the Federal government. To make sure there is enough time for Congress to act, I have asked the Securities and Exchange Commission and Federal Reserve to immediately declare a banking holiday. They have agreed to do this. All banks, stock markets, futures markets, stock brokerages, and similar enterprises all across America will be closed tomorrow. They'll stay closed until Congress acts. It is very likely that your credit cards will not work tomorrow. Your debit cards and atm cards probably will not work either. And stores may refuse to take your check. Banks and markets will re-open when there is reasonable assurance for their depositors and ordinary creditors that these weak assets will not cause the banks to fail and take away their deposits and short term lendings. Our prayers are with America tonight and every night, thank you and good night. *** Well, that's what I think the President should have said and done -- what's your opinion?I started working in banking in 1970. along the way, I earned MBA and CPA. I've seen economic booms and busts related to real estate lending since my first bust in 1973. This is by far the worst situation since then. more

Resolved Question: Going to Tahiti Village, LV... Please help, if you've been.?

Last night I "won" one of those 3 day/2 night trips to Vegas through Roseanne Barr's radio ad for Tahiti Village while listening to KISS FM(Chicago's version -- if you live in any mainstream area, I'm sure you have your own.) I called 866-918-3427. (91-VEGAS). A recorded message of Roseanne Barr came on congratulating me on "making it on the list" and "please hold, don't lose your place in line." So I waited, a guy answered, I gave him my name, address, and vitals (single white female). Then the guy says "congratulations -blah blah blah- it'll be in the mail within 7-14 business days." -click- I don't know -what- will be in the mail in these 14 bus. days. I'm expecting a voucher. I don't even know what's included in the trip. So I call the radio station. Guy picks up, I tell him the "great news" and again I get "congratulations" w/o much info. I ask "what's included?" and he says "hotel/flight." No mention of the timeshare scam. So today I called the same number, and this time some guy answers (no recorded Roseanne). Repeated x2, again, same result. I hung up on the last two; the first time I asked for more info, the guy asks ME if if I've put in my $98 deposit yet. I said "no, I just called yesterday" or something to that extent and he says, "oh, the roseanne barr thing. Go to mdvegas.com, your answers will be there, we don't have any information." Then before he could hang up, I said "wait, what $98 deposit?" He says "oh, that doesn't pertain to you." So I researched -- yes I'm aware it's a timeshare. BUT: for me, it may be worth it. (SWF, full-time student, can't afford a $1000 vegas excursion... and never been west of the Mississippi.) So yes. I know it's a time share "scam". I have no problem with putting myself and a friend through a half day of nagging and sales pitching, as I have no problem saying "no," and I can't afford it either way. While researching the multiple threats online, I've come across a few things I have questions about. This is why I'm asking someone to please reply, if they've been (especially recently), since I'm sure you'll know the answers. My Questions: 1. - I've heard you must be married to participate. But, I'm single. They still accepted this answer. I said "no significant other/plans to be married", etc. Apparently, this was fine. BUT -- I know how these sales persons are -- he may have just written down I was attached/ignored me for the sake of gaining a lead on this "manhunt." So -- does this still apply to singles? Is a marriage partner necessary? (Yes, I make over $25K/year, I've been asked this before.) 2. -- How MANY of these presentations do you have to go on? Is it a "one-time" thing (even though it may last up to 6 hours), or is it a "one time per day" thing? 3. -- I'm aware there may be blackout dates in choosing the trip dates for the voucher. BUT: I've also heard the dates might not be consecutive. True? 4. -- I've heard from 2 people that if you choose NOT to participate in the "optional" timeshare presentation, your credit card will be billed for the full cost of the trip. I have no problems with participating, but with these kinds of companies, I want to make SURE they don't charge me anyway -- since I will most definitely be saying "NO" to everything they offer me. 5. -- Most importantly (and I realize this may have different applications to do each diff. package deal, etc., so our experiences may differ): IS the flight included? (I'm not sure how qualified the DJ intern was in answering that question... so what was your experience?) Please advise, if you can. I know I have a lot of questions, but I really want to go prepared, if I go. Thanks ahead!! more

Resolved Question: What would you like to see in your local bookstore?

I co-own a used book store in a small town. It's the biggest bookstore in the entire valley we live in - the next big store is 45 mins away. Problem is, we are in the "out of the way" town. We've been open for a year and have built up a small customer base but we're no where near actually profiting from local sales yet. I know a business takes time. We do have a large inventory because we've "collected" books for years. Anyways, the point of the question is I am re-vamping the store. I recently rearranged the entire setup for an easier flow, allowing us to add shelves for more inventory. Am in the process of being able to accept debit/credit cards. My question to you is: What would you like to see in your local bookstore? Or what is your favorite thing about your local bookstore? We've been wanting to carry Anime for awhile because it seems to be a hot niche of books but we haven't yet. So if anyone has any input, i'd appreciate it. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Whats your opinion of airlines not accepting cash for onboard purchases. An Airline only accepting credit.?

There is an article online that Alaska Airlines is no longer going to accept cash onbaord to buy snacks, meals or liquor. Even though they will be joining other airlines who already have this policy whats your opinion? I feel that cahs is a lagel United States tender and should be accepted. Not everyone has or wants a credit or debit card. Here is a copy of the article http://www.ajc.com/services/content/travel/otherdestinations/us_stories/2008/07/15/alaska_airlines_no_cash.html?cxtype=ybuzz Read this an article about a restuarant in Bend,OR that no longer accepts cash Cashless businesses slowly catch on--http://www.creditcards.com/No-cash-businesses.php?a_aid=1017Even thouhg I have to credit cards I never use them. I only use my debit card to withdraw money from the ATM. There is no law in this country that forces you to have a credit or debit card. If business refuse to accept cash in this country I wonder if these bussiness will get sued for refusing to take cash. A business such as a restuarant that only takes credit or debit card should not be allowed to do so by law. more

Resolved Question: Can a hotel take an imprint of my credit card?

Some time ago, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) was amended to require companies who accept a credit card to print only the last 5 digits of the 16-digit credit card number on a receipt. That way, if you lost the receipt, no one would be able to use your credit card number. However, recently, when I checked in at a hotel, the front desk took an imprint of my credit card, which means that all 16 digits were imprinted on a document I was asked to sign to confirm the rate, etc. What good does it do to have a law, which prohibits a business from printing the entire 16 digits on the receipt only to have the business take an imprint of the credit card, which shows all 16-digits. Is this legal? Thanks. For more information on the 5-digit requirement, you might want to review this FTC publication. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/alerts/alt007.pdfFor more information about the law, which requires companies to print only the last 5 digits of your credit card number (as opposed to all 16 digits), see this section of the The Fair Credit Reporting Act: Section 605 (g). more

Resolved Question: Are gas stations in your area doing this, and if they are, how do you feel about it?

In our area gas stations are still accepting credit cards, but they are charging five or six cents extra per gallon to anyone who uses them. Most stations aren't notifying customers with signage, so some people don't realize this until they've already filled up, and I've seen very angry people go into the station and confront the cashier. Our part of the country is especially stressed and depressed economically, and I worry that someone is going to lose their temper and become violent. One of our neighborhood gas station owners, who has always been shrewd in business, put up a large sign saying "Cash Price: 3.99. Credit Price: 3.99." He's very, very busy, and he deserves it. Aside from the credit card issue, he's the only station in our area charging less than four dollars a gallon. Everyone else is at $4.09 to $4.15 for regular. How are stations in your area responding, and are you happy to walk in and pay cash to avoid the extra charge? more

Resolved Question: Did I get a good deal on this mortgage????

I want to know what is the best deal I can work out with my loan officer or if I should see anyone else before accepting this offer. I was pre-approved for a $350,000 FHA Mortgage, 30 year fixed, with 6.5% interest rate, 2 points and a 5% seller concession. I have heard that this is not a great deal. If I did not have 2 points would that money for that 2 points be put towards the mortgage? I would like to know what I can negogiate with him so that it works to my advantage and is also the best for me. Our median credit scores are 672 for me and 610 for my husband. We make a littler over $90,000 a year and both have steady jobs. No collections or Late payments for about a little over a year. The only thing that is keeping my husband's score from increasing is what he has been working on over the past few months which is his balance on one of his credit cards, its a little over the 30% limit but not that bad with a bal of $550.00, and this is also his highest. Within the last year we have paid off all collections and debts we had on our credit. I have no credit card debt but 2 installment loans, an eductional loan, a car loan and one secured credit card with $200 limit w/ zero bal and a revolving credit card with $400 limit w/ zero bal. My husband has one installment loan, one reg credit card and two revolving credit cards below their limits. He has had some credits cards that went into collections but have been paid off so they are just listed as closed under his report. My total debt a month is $786.00. My husbands debt is about $250.00 monthly. With this being said what would you suggest a better deal? Should I try getting him to drop the rate but keep the points? or take the points off and leave the same interest rate? or change another complete deal. We plan on refinancing in a year or two to get a lower rate. Pls help, NO SPAMMING, or advertising your business! All I need is a few suggestions on what I should do from either personal or professional experience. Thanks so much.I guess I must be more specfic and take some writing lessons before posting a question here. People take this way too seriously as if their getting paid for their time. Oh please get over it! Meanwhile others are simply too noisy and can not stick to answering "the question". We can defly afford it because it will be a two family home with a full finished basement. We will occupy one apartment and rent the others. Thank You!!! more

Resolved Question: Setting up a Store Front/E-commerce?

I am starting a new business selling herbal dietary supplements and other types of herbal products. I have knowledge in building websites, however, the whole e-commerce is new to me and I am not quite sure how to accept payments on my website. Are there any good websites that will host your store for you, let you accept credit card payments and customize/update your website through them? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: What is the name of the credit card machine that sales people use?

I was wondering what is the name or how do you call the credit card (swipe-tool) that some sales people use? Like those people that come to your business and try to sell you spa packages and they accept credit cards, Is like a machine-tool that allows you to copy the credit card when u place it on the back. Kind of what some nightclubs have when u pay at the entrance. But it is not the electronic one that u have to enter ur pin number, is the Manual one. If u can help me to find out more info like name and how much it cost, or if they charge u for transaccion, or where can I get this I will really appreciate that. Thank you, ;-) more

Resolved Question: Can you disable the acceptance of Credit Cards on paypal?

Hello, is there a way to eliminate buyers from using credit cards on your paypal account when they send you money? I wish to set up a 3rd party merchant account in it's place to accept cc's, and only accept paypal if it's nonCC payment types to avoid chargeback situations. It's proven Paypal won't fight or investigate claims for their customers, and chargebacks could be costly. This is all about min. fraud risks. So, is there a feature to disable the use of credit cards being used on paypal for a business account? If so, where can I find this? Thanks more
